Swami Purnachaitanya

Dear GermanJoe,

I have been updating the article since there were some sections to be improved with some new links. Could help us understand why did you revert the change. Kindly waiting for your reply.

Thank YouTerminatorwil (talk) 23:13, 21 February 2020 (UTC)

Hello @Terminatorwil:, the Midweek Sun fails our criteria for a reliable source by a wide margin (WP:RS), let alone for a source for health-related or medical claims (WP:MEDRS). Also, phrases like "The importance of Yoga has been in his teaching since it is the answer to many non-communicable diseases." blatantly violate WP:NPOV. Content should be written from an uninvolved dispassionate point of view, not simply repeating the topic's own claims and PR statements. An encyclopedia has to take a critical, fact-oriented stance and should be based on information from reliable, independent expert sources. GermanJoe (talk) 11:38, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

Talk page access

Hi GermanJoe. You might have to revoke talk page access for Andy Wildlife Safari. They've made two spam edits (Special:Diff/941991788, Special:Diff/941993811) on their user talk page since you blocked them. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 00:09, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

Drm310, done - thank you for pointing this out. GermanJoe (talk) 11:39, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

While I wasn't entirely sure what should go to the reliable sources talk page, you where!

You even thanked me for my clumsy notification. For that I want to return the favour. Florian Finke (talk) 19:27, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

March Madness 2020

G'day all, March Madness 2020 is about to get underway, and there is bling aplenty for those who want to get stuck into the backlog by way of tagging, assessing, updating, adding or improving resources and creating articles. If you haven't already signed up to participate, why not? The more the merrier! Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 08:19, 29 February 2020 (UTC) for the coord team

Administrators' newsletter – March 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2020).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, the blocking policy was changed to state that sysops must not undo or alter CheckUser or Oversight blocks, rather than should not.
  • A request for comment confirmed that sandboxes of established but inactive editors may not be blanked due solely to inactivity.

  Technical news

  • Following a discussion, Twinkle's default CSD behavior will soon change, most likely this week. After the change, Twinkle will default to "tagging mode" if there is no CSD tag present, and default to "deletion mode" if there is a CSD tag present. You will be able to always default to "deletion mode" (the current behavior) using your Twinkle preferences.

about this[7] was trying to link to a article since none was available and it is an orphan--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 15:54, 8 March 2020 (UTC)

@Ozzie10aaaa:, i got the intention to de-orphan. But it was really not a good spot to put such an article link. The context was very loose and the passing mention seemed almost out of place there. I recommend you look for an article where such a link can be put in a more direct and relevant context instead (or of course in list articles including that topic as valid entry). Vym (software) sources and "copyright violations"

Please have a closer look at the readme here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/vym/files/Development/ , consider what it says, "please check the homepage for details: http://www.insilmaril.de/vym ", and consider whether "help" output of a GPL program is copyrighted. I'm no lawyer, but my opinion is you're mistaken on copyright here, and removing that URL as a source. Probably is a bit flowery language, but also accurate and descriptive... -- Yae4 (talk) 18:13, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

No, it's self-promotional PR speak and should not be used in an encyclopedia, copyrighted or not. And all external content is by default copyrighted (unless it's explicitly released under a free license or legally Public domain due to age, US government works, etc.). GermanJoe (talk) 18:18, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
@Yae4: - but thank you for the tip about insilmaril.de as a valid self-published source. I have re-added this link into the article. GermanJoe (talk) 18:23, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
@GermanJoe: Please remove the copyright warning from my Talk, or inform me where I can appeal, because you seem less than certain regarding copyright, and the "without further warning" has a chilling effect, opposite "be bold." -- Yae4 (talk) 16:12, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
@Yae4:, you can remove or archive such messages yourself after you have read them. Please re-read earlier advice from November 2019 and January 2020 though: "... please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article." This is really the best possible advice to avoid copyright-related problems with unclear external content. I believe, I have given you all relevant information - but you are welcome to ask any other admin for a second opinion or use an appropriate noticeboard as a last resort. AmitMondal1299, please see the information and links I left on your user talkpage. Entries in such large lists should have a Wikipedia article first, based on multiple independent reliable sources. Editing news 2020 #1 – Discussion tools

Read this in another languageSubscription list

This early version of the Reply tool automatically signs and indents comments.

The Editing team has been working on the talk pages project. The goal of the talk pages project is to help contributors communicate on wiki more easily. This project is the result of the Talk pages consultation 2019.

In a future update, the team plans to test a tool for easily linking to another user's name, a rich-text editing option, and other tools.

The team is building a new tool for replying to comments now. This early version can sign and indent comments automatically. Please test the new Reply tool.

  • On 31 March 2020, the new reply tool was offered as a Beta Feature editors at four Wikipedias: Arabic, Dutch, French, and Hungarian. If your community also wants early access to the new tool, contact User:Whatamidoing (WMF).
  • The team is planning some upcoming changes. Please review the proposed design and share your thoughts on the talk page. The team will test features such as:
    • an easy way to mention another editor ("pinging"),
    • a rich-text visual editing option, and
    • other features identified through user testing or recommended by editors.

To hear more about Editing Team updates, please add your name to the "Get involved" section of the project page. You can also watch   these pages: the main project page, Updates, Replying, and User testing.

MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist

I noticed you are active on the MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist page. I posted a request to the "Proposed Removals" section but haven't gotten any responses. Would you mind taking a look? Thanks in advance. :) - NeutralhomerTalk • 19:30 on April 19, 2020 (UTC) • #StayAtHome

@Neutralhomer:, answered there although it needs further discussion on the other whitelisting forum (the one you posted in is for entire domains). GermanJoe (talk) 21:39, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
@Neutralhomer: again, first link was broken. GermanJoe (talk) 21:40, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

For the sake of transparency, Wikipedia-related discussions should be held online so other editors can follow them and offer addtional feedback. If you have a professional connection with a topic, your very first step should be a clear and open disclosure of your [[WP:COI|conflict of interest]] on your user page. The second step would be to create a draft in draftspace, based on multiple independent reliable sources, and submit said draft for review by an uninvolved AfC reviewer. But the main point is always to provide independent reliable sources - this excludes most PR publications, interviews and press releases as well as routine business announcements. Hope this helps a bit to clarify Wikipedia's guidelines for this aspect. Strictly speaking the linked information focusses on organizations, but similar criteria are usually also applied to products. A last point: unfortunately Wikipedia has a lot of erroneous und unencyclopedic articles left over from its beginnings (and from recent promotional activity), but such articles aren't good templates for new topics. If you want to find suitable examples to create a promising draft, you should look out for established good or featured articles. I suggest you bring this to the talk page, where it would be appropriate and others can see it too. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Augmented_reality&type=revision&diff=962536850&oldid=962535545. ♫ RichardWeiss talk contribs 17:14, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

You've got mail

Hello, GermanJoe. Please check your email; you've got mail!
It may take a few minutes from the time the email is sent for it to show up in your inbox. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{You've got mail}} or {{ygm}} template. Mlcastellanos (talk) 18:31, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

The next page after I sent the internal email quickly lead me to this talkpage. I do not understand why you removed my content and incorrectly labeled it as promotional. My edit is inclusion (no deletions or changes) of historical fact, with news website citations and references and I purposely did not word any of it in a method that would imply promotion.

Please reply with either an explanation or a reversal so that I or you can include it.

Thank you. Mario L Castellanos

Hello @Mlcastellanos:, please start a thread at Talk:Augmented reality if you'd like to discuss the removal. I will not respond to mails or further messages on my user talkpage - especially your first message wasn't really helpful -, the article talkpage is the appropriate place to discuss such questions as already advised by RichardWeiss (thank you). But please note that you will need to provide truely independent non-promotional sources for such content. Neither self-published information nor advertorials in a trade publication are sufficient. My edit on the list of photo and video apps

I was citing and there are other links for the same website posted by other users on the same page and a citation is needed per Wikipedia:Verifiability and I am not related to TikTok or Apple in anyway and never posted that link to other articles or to other websites 🌸 1.Ayana 🌸 (talk) 11:44, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

@1.Ayana:, thank you for pointing this out. I misread your edit and have now reverted my removal. Still, as a general tip, you should try to avoid commercial or promotional sources as much as possible (although they are occasionally OK for non-controversial claims). Anyway, sorry for the misunderstanding. GermanJoe (talk) 12:40, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
