Thank you for your contributions. It seems that you may have added public domain content to one or more Wikipedia articles, such as Lamitan. You are welcome to import appropriate public domain content to articles, but in order to meet the Wikipedia guideline on plagiarism, such content must be fully attributed. This requires not only acknowledging the source, but acknowledging that the source is copied. There are several methods to do this described at Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Public-domain sources, including the usage of an attribution template. Please make sure that any public domain content you have already imported is fully attributed. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 22:08, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

Your addition has been removed or altered, as it appears to closely paraphrase a copyrighted source. Limited close paraphrasing or quotation is appropriate within reason, so long as the material is clearly attributed in the text. However, longer paraphrases, especially if they are not attributed to their source, may constitute copyright violation or plagiarism, and are not acceptable on Wikipedia. Such content cannot be hosted here for legal reasons; please do not post it on any page, even if you plan to fix it later. You may use external websites or printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If you own the copyright to the text, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the copyright but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. Fram (talk) 08:32, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Nicknames of Ilagan

The article Nicknames of Ilagan has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Apart from "Corn Capital of the Philippines" none of these are common nicknames, they are descriptive sentences used (at best) once or twice, I e.g. can't find evidence that "Center of Eco-Tourism Adventure in Cagayan Valley" is even in use.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fram (talk) 08:26, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

Hello Gerryyabes! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as San Pablo, Isabela, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted material from other websites or printed works. This article appears to contain work copied from https://provinceofisabela.ph/images/2018/History_of_Isabela/5-History%20of%20San%20Pablo%20Isabela.pdf, and therefore to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate your contributions, copying content from other websites is unlawful and against Wikipedia's copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are likely to lose their editing privileges.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text to be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

See Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries for a template of the permissions letter the copyright holder is expected to send.

Otherwise, you may rewrite this article from scratch. If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:San Pablo, Isabela saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved.

Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! — Diannaa (talk) 13:30, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

Many government documents are public domain in the Philippines but this one is marked as "Philippine Copyright © 15 January 2018". — Diannaa (talk) 13:32, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

I also removed some copyright content from Palanan. Please don't add copyright material to Wikipedia. — Diannaa (talk) 13:39, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

Promotion

A section which starts with "The splendors of the attractive and rapidly rising town of Claveria" and ends with "A town that keeps up with the changing demands of modern times, attracts tourists and visitors who return home satisfied not only with the town's amazing growth and progress, but also with the people's warmth. Claveria is indeed the Coastal Paradise of the North." is promotional, no idea why you try denying this. Fram (talk) 13:42, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing this particular text. Will do th revision instead of deleting the entire section. -Gerryyabes Gerryyabes (talk) 13:43, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
No, the whole text needs deletion as it is a copyright violation (an extremely close paraphrasing of a copyrighted text), and furthermore I just gave these as examples, not the sole problems. Fram (talk) 13:49, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

Request reason:

Hope this message finds you great, @GreenLipstickLesbian, @User:David Fuchs, and Ad Orientem. I understand I was blocked in connection with violations of Wikipedia's copyright policies. I've caused a headache for which I sincerely apologize, and I want to make sure that you are aware that I fully realize the importance of following all of Wikipedia's guidelines, especially those on copyright. I am writing to ask that my account be unblocked based on consensus among concerned volunteers. I will make sure in the future that any contribution I make on Wikipedia is fully in line with the rules and standards of the platform. I took some time to review the appropriate policies and will strictly avoid actions that could constitute a copyright violation or any other type of breach of Wikipedia rules. I hereby reassure all that my commitment to contributing to Wikipedia is in a manner that shall be no less than constructive and positive, and I am deeply appreciative of the trust invested by the community in its editors. I will be certain to work on rebuilding that trust and to make sure that future contributions uphold the integrity expected from this platform. Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to continuing to contribute to Wikipedia in a responsible and productive manner.Gerryyabes (talk) 14:18, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

Accept reason:

Unblocking per below. I will point out that you should be very aware that repeated transgressions is asking for an indefinite block, and that not responding to queries and issues people bring up is also a very good reason to block to prevent further disruption. You have to communicate with people bringing up concerns. If you're not sure if an edit is a copyright violation, run it by someone first. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 14:20, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

@David Fuchs This strikes me as a good unblock request. However, I defer to you as the blocking admin. -Ad Orientem (talk) 14:58, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
Gerryyabes can you give specific examples of what actions you are going to amend going forward? Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 19:33, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
@User:David Fuchs, to provide you specific examples, these are actions that I am going to do from now on: Extra checking for sources, proper citations, and strict adherence to copyright law will further improve my contributions on Wikipedia. I will continue to participate in the collaborative editing of Wikipedia with its active community; I will keep articles updated regularly to keep them fresh and accurate, and I will be demonstrating a constant neutrality of point of view. This is how I will ensure that my contributions will be quality and meet the set standards at Wikipedia. Adhering to copyright on Wikipedia means: I will never contribute to Wikipedia any text or media directly copied from any copyrighted source. Even if I rewrite, the structure or some idea may still be under copyright, and not allowed on Wikipedia. In case I want to use copyrighted material that doesn't qualify as fair use, or is not under open license, then will have to get explicit permission from the copyright holder, have it properly documented, and must allow the material to be used as specified under Wikipedia's license. I hope my answers satisfied you. Gerry Yabes (Talk) 15:00, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
Hi, Gerryyabes, and thank you for responding and pinging me! I'd hate to see you go from the project; you've done a lot of work in Philippines-related articles. It's great to see that you've read the copyright rules. Could you answer a few questions? They're pretty standard to ask for copyright unblocks, and they shouldn't be too difficult you for to answer them.
What is copyright?
How is Wikipedia licenced?
Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia?
Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?
Let me know if you need help answering them, or need clarification. Looking forward to having you back! GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 19:47, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
@GreenLipstickLesbian, to provide answers to the questions as follows:
What is Copyright? Copyright is a form of legal protection, given to an individual, by which an individual has the exclusive right to use, distribute, and control how his work is used. Original works under copyright include literary works, artistic works, musical works, and other creative works. Normally, copyright protection is for a limited period, normally the lifetime of the creator plus a specified number of years varying from one jurisdiction to another. During this period, the owner retains rights to give permission for use of their work, and others must request permission, particularly for commercial uses.
How is Wikipedia Licensed? In my understanding, Wikipedia is available under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0, it may be used freely by anyone for any purpose, and can serve as the basis for original creative works as long as few restrictions are followed: appropriate credit must be given to the authors at the source, a link to the license is provided, and changes are noted; in return, material must be made available under this license or a license compatible with the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license.
Why doesn't Wikipedia allow it to contain copyrighted content? Wikipedia does not allow people to contribute copyrighted material because Wikipedia's mission is to freely distribute knowledge that can be used, shared, and modified by all. Allowing copyrighted material to appear on the site would be a violation of copyright law and an intentional violation of the Creative Commons license running under the material. It may bring litigation against Wikipedia and its users, but most essentially, it would hinder others from using and freely redistributing what is contained in the articles.
Under What Circumstances Can We Use Copyrighted Content? The use of copyrighted content on Wikipedia is possible under the following circumstances, mainly in cases where: Wikipedia can only use copyrighted material under very specific conditions: "fair use" allows limited use, such as for commentary or teaching, but requires careful justification and it also varies from country to country. Public domain works-those whose copyright has expired or has been waived-can be freely used. Content published under Creative Commons or other compatible licenses may be used, provided proper attribution is given. Explicit permission from the copyright holder to license their material under Wikipedia's CC BY-SA is acceptable, on the other hand, as long as it is verifiable and documented.
I hope these answers have been satisfactory for you.Gerry Yabes (Talk) 15:19, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
