2017 Published review of medical content on Wikipedia

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ali Nobakht, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Iranian and Fellowship. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Medical Translations

User:Gharouni thanks for signing-up to help translate medical content into Persian. We currently have two others volunteers actively helping (User:Narges_rsl and Mohammad). Our current focus is the 23 vaccines considered essential medicine by the World Health Organization. Narges has done 8 of them! The list of vaccines can be found [1]here. We are using the beta Content Translation tool for most of this work. If you haven't already, check it out (under Beta in the top wiki menu). Only do the introduction/lead of the article (the first 3-4 paragraphs). Please let me know when you have completed an article, so I can track our project's successes. Thanks. --Lucas559 (talk) 15:41, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

Lucas559Thanks for your message. I will commence translation ASAP and will let you know of the progress.Gharouni Talk 15:49, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
I should have mentioned, vaccines are a bit different from regular articles. Often, there is pre-existing content about the vaccine (e.g., BCG Vaccine) in the related disease article (e.g., Tuberculosis). So, you need to search both potential vaccine articles and the disease article to find which ones need translation. If the disease article has, say, 50% of the vaccine content that we hope to add, we can add our translation to the disease article. Or, we can make a separate vaccine article and re-direct from the disease article. Ask me and I can advise if this situation occurs. Thanks for getting involved. --Lucas559 (talk) 17:58, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
Lucas559 I have just finished Diphtheria Vaccine. Thanks for above reminder.Gharouni Talk 18:56, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
Great work! Thanks Gharouni. It is okay to leave the English language references. Not ideal in Farsi, but at least there is attribution for the facts. The Content Translation tool will import references automatically. I have updated our project spreadsheet with your contribution. Keep me posted for the next ones. Smiles. --Lucas559 (talk) 15:37, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Accept reason: It looks to me as though you are an innocent bystander caught in collateral damage, so I will make the block anon-only, which will allow you to edit. Normally in this situation I consult the blocking administrator, in case there are considerations which I don't know about, but on this occasion the blocking administrator hasn't edited for almost three months, so I'm going ahead on my own. Carolina Reaper

On my Talk page, you said: "Hi, I know what wikipedia is and what not. If you think my sentence looks like a newspapaer paragraph let me know and I fix it or you can kindly attend to fix it (by the look of it you know a lot) but by just reverting everybody's edits you leave the article limited to what you like not what it should be. I will wait for your fixation and thank you in advance for that. This way I learn more as well."

In addition to the explanations provided with each edit, I also discussed with another editor the issues on the article Talk page, here. There are multiple reasons for not including your proposed content. Most specifically, you are proposing we add a single-case effect -- in WP:MEDASSESS, a case report is the 2nd-lowest quality of evidence -- which is basically a single news item. See WP:NOTNEWS, WP:RECENTISM. --Zefr (talk) 22:32, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
@Zefr: Wikipedia is an improving encyclopedia, in any other context that would pass WP:N as a first ever discovery that x also causes y. Do you doubt the findings of the people involved, or are you just trying to limit article growth to published material that takes years to do? - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 23:59, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
The proposed text is all news, partly advice (don't eat the pepper or this will happen), mostly speculation (unknown mechanisms and population effect), and off-topic commentary supported only by news articles. The effect of eating the pepper on brain blood vessels is presumably from capsaicin (therefore, not specific to Carolina Reaper; all hot peppers contain it) or perhaps hyperventilation (due to stress, which lowers blood CO2 levels and constricts brain arteries, an opposite effect from that shown in the CNN brain scan images). In fact, according to this review, capsaicin is a vasodilator, an effect that makes impossible an interpretation from the news sources of how eating a pepper caused the result. This is why we rely on WP:MEDRS reviews for WP content. If this effect is observed repeatedly over years in multiple people, then studied properly with a future review resulting, the effect would become better MEDRS-supported. Meanwhile, the effect reported is a fringe news item, not WP:N. --Zefr (talk) 01:14, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
@Zefr: Thanks for your interest to discuss this. However, I am sure you know that we are not here in wikipedia to create a 100% bullet proof medical document that all academics can refer to. No, we are here to add information to a free encyclopaedia like other encyclopaedias we refer to what is available in academic world. Referring to a case study, that has been reported at BJM for first time and has been reported multiple times in media so far, it is not an original research as there are many research since 90th so far regarding vasoconstrauctive effects of capsaicin. Examples: [1],[2]. I agree with some of your rationale behind your edits but it doesn't cover all you have in your mind to allow you to revert edits of 3 users so far. Gharouni Talk 03:45, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
The edit you wish to add is a one-time news item (WP:NOTNEWS) on primary (case report) research (WP:PRIMARY) that is not unique to the Carolina Reaper pepper, as it could occur with any high-capsaicin pepper (WP:OFFTOPIC). I have commented enough on this and am moving on to other editing; I recommend you do the same. --Zefr (talk) 14:20, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
I don't see why you shouldn't be taken to WP:ANI for edit warring and disruptive editing. WP:BRD went out the window on your third revert of the same content within a 24 hour period. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 15:32, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
As for the edit in question, the enduring notability is the first of its kind case linking RCVS to chili peppers. The fact is that this diagnosis and discovery was made, you are going by your own medical opinion rather than accepting this point of view. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 15:35, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
