Welcome to the 2011 WikiCup!

Hello, happy new year and welcome to the 2011 WikiCup! Your submissions' page can be found here and instructions of how to update the page can be found here and on the submissions' page itself. From the submissions' page, a bot will update the main scoresheet. Our rules have been very slightly updated from last year; the full rules can be found here. Please remember that you can only receive points for content on which you have done significant work in 2011; nominations of work from last year and "drive-by" nominations will not be awarded points. Signups are going to remain open through January, so if you know of anyone who would like to take part, please direct them to Wikipedia:WikiCup/2011 signups. The judges can be contacted on the WikiCup talk page, on their respective talk pages, or by email. Other than that, we will be in contact at the end of every month with the newsletter. If you want to stop or start receiving newsletters, please remove your name from or add your name to this list. Good luck! J Milburn and The ed17 12:57, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Birth of the Cool

Miles Ahead follows this album in the article's chronology, as it was released after Birth of the Cool. Conception was released in 1951. As with other album articles, the order is by release date. Same applies for the extra chronology in the article for Miles Davis compilation albums. Dan56 (talk) 18:54, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Led Zeppelin discography

Hi there, I am currently re-reading Hammer of the Gods, and will use it to rewrite the article's lead for the next few days. Hopefully by the weekend you can nominate this at WP:FLC. Thanks,—indopug (talk) 16:39, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

The Allmusic template is unnecessary and one of the URLs was incorrect, so I have reverted your edit. WesleyDodds (talk) 06:12, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Nah, I haven't done enough to deserve a co-nom credit. But I think you should hold off the FLC for a while, as I see some immediate issues. For one, I think the band released some music videos (I've seen "Whole Lotta Love" and "Immigrant Song" on Vh1, for instance), but these aren't in the article. Also, I think it would be prudent to start a final discussion over whether Coda is a studio album or a compilation.—indopug (talk) 17:47, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Huh? I believe I laid out my concerns about the article at FLC clearly enough.—indopug (talk) 19:26, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Tagging talk pages with AWB

Sure I'm assuming that you have at least some familiarity with AWB and access to it. If you want to start tagging talk pages, here's one way to go about it:

  1. Choose a category and either make the list from that category, recursively, or recursively (user-defined level).
  2. Once you have the list, right-click to convert to talk pages.
  3. Go to the "More" tab and prepend text (e.g. {{WikiProject Miles Davis}}, considering your recent edits.)
  4. Profit!

If that's not clear or if you need more help, just let me know. —Justin (koavf)TCM22:44, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Re:WikiCup

AWB Abusw

I have serious issues with your recent WP:AWB edits. The Reggae WikiProject is about articles relating to reggae not artists. Thus tagging every Rihanna song in project Reggae is incorrect. As is tagging a bunch of Shontelle songs. The songs themselves do not fall into project reggae as they songs are not classified as reggae in genre. You'd probably struggle to justify the artists as reggae. -- Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 15:16, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. (see discussion titled abuse of AWB) -- Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 15:30, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
It is only appropriate for project Reggae to added to the talk pages of songs were it is explicitly clear that Reggae is a genre of the song. For all other songs it is NOT appropriate. I'm sorry but you appear not to have understood my comments, visit the ANI again as a colleague of mine has raised an interesting point while I have further explained my grievances. No doubt you are a good editor and I'm sure you acted in WP:Good faith but all is a little misguided. -- Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 15:53, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Led Zeppelin discography nomination

I'm not familiar with the nomination process plus I would be hesitant to nominate an article containing the disputed 300 million sales figure. This information was introduced to the main Led Zeppelin article in September 2005 withour explanation or a source (see diff). That edit should have been immediately and summarily reverted. Unfortunately it wasn't, and since then the 300 million figure has turned up (without attribution) in some newspaper articles. According to Atlantic Records and Robert Plant, they've sold 200 million albums. Piriczki (talk) 15:52, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

ANI

GreatOrangePumpkin, I have closed the thread at ANI regarding your use of AWB. It seems that there is no need to remove AWB at this time, however, there is a need for you to learn from this, or AWB may be removed in future. Basically, what you need to do differently from now on:

  • When venturing into a task you are not familiar with (in this case AWB mass WikiProject tagging) make sure you look around for information pages so that you can avoid mistakes (in this case recursively filling a category without checking that the sub categories were appropriate).
  • Make sure you double check everything before starting a run. Otherwise you will miss small (but disruptive) problems such as using the default edit summary. I also always check my first few edits in a normal browser when starting a new run, I find this makes it easier to spot problems before they become too disruptive.
  • Remember you are responsible for your own edits, even when using a semi-automated tool. In this case you should not have been blaming other for your own mistake ("It's not my fault if someone put this categories into this songs").

All the best, and good luck with your future AWB and Wikipedia editing - Kingpin13 (talk) 21:06, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Reggae

What's with all this reggae stuff on songs that just display the slightest bit of this influence? That doesn't mean it needs to be in that project... Candyo32 - Happy New Year :) 21:18, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

FLC revisit request

Hello! Thank you for your comments at my nomination of List of current sovereign monarchs. I believe most of the issues you presented have been resolved. Could you please revisit your comment on the page, and let me know if there is anything else to consider before the administrators make their decision? Thanks again, Nightw 03:56, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Actually, you've already cast your support, so this is probably unnecessary. Sorry! Nightw 03:58, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Led Zeppelin discography nomination

Nominating Thanks for asking, but first off, I do not feel like I have added enough to the article as it stands to be a co-nominator and furthermore, I don't have regular Internet access to help you flesh out the article, so it would be unfair to you for me to say that I can be there. I would be happy to help if I had Internet access from home, but it's just not fair right now. Also, I'm ostensibly working on a peer review at The Fountain, which is a priority for me whenever I do get back to computing from home. If it doesn't pass FL and you want someone to collaborate later, I'd be happy to help. —Justin (koavf)TCM04:30, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

AWB craziness

Also I was asked to comment at AN regarding the thread about your use of AWB; by the time I got there, it was resolved. A pro-tip that I might want to give you is that you can right click on a list and choose "Filter" and then remove all titles containing "X" and keep all titles containing "Y". I've used that one a lot in the past. —Justin (koavf)TCM05:16, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Get real

When there is an article such as Meaty5060 or Jordan De La Prida which already has a speedy delete tag on it and patently stands no chance of survival, what is the point of tagging it for cleanup? Also this talk page needs archiving. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 21:52, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Nightwish discography

I've just made a lot of editions on the article according to your syggestions, and i'm working on the orhers.Rodrigo15 (talk) 21:50, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

the revertions were an edit conflict; sorry about it; as i said, somethings are solved according to the comments, and i'm working on the other ones; now i'm gonna work on the netherlands charts. About the comments with a "done", well, i really think i've done them, if they're still wrong, tell me why.Rodrigo15 (talk) 22:07, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Archive names

I'm afraid your archives are still not named properly. As mentioned at Wikipedia:Help desk#redirecting they should be subpages of your talk page since they are archives of the talk page. There are bots, templates and editors expecting to find archives there. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:49, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

By the way, I and other people using the new section link will not see your "stop write under |}, thank you" in the wiki source. You can omit the ending |} instead. Then people can add to the bottom as normal and the software should automatically add a table end to the rendered page if it's missing in the wiki source. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:07, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Refs

Ok, i've replaced all the "questionable sources", but many of the new sources are coming from Nightwish's official website, cause i couldn't get any other realiable site, but now, there are no other place to get references, i hope the current references are enough.Rodrigo15 (talk) 19:03, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes, i've erased the references from Roadrunner, Soundtrack.net and Spinefarm, and the new references come from Nightwish's Offical website. These are the new references on the article: 1 and 2.Rodrigo15 (talk) 20:35, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Texas Open (tennis)

I guess WTA never replied to you. Their many 2011 calendars still contradict eachother. However, I have just found a WTA mention beyond a line in a calendar. Page 30 at http://www.wtatour.com/SEWTATour-Archive/Archive/MediaInfo/mediaguide2011.pdf shows a little info about "Texas Tennis Open" in Dallas. It gives the venue "Hilton Lakes Tennis & Sports Club". This is in Grapevine, Texas which Wikipedia decribes as "a suburb of both Dallas and Fort Worth". The website and media director is "TBA" but it lists a tournament director with an email address and phone number. I'm not contacting him. PrimeHunter (talk) 04:23, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

I agree that we most likely should expand junior tennis notability to top 10

Hey there. I happened across a comment you made on a talk page that we should expand junior tennis notability, and I agree. I would support a move to do so to the ITF combined rankings top ten and medalists of the youth olympics. (I wouldnt, personally, support going further however.) Acutally, looking at it more, I d favour making each Grade A ITF champion notable Mayumashu (talk) 00:40, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
I am all for it, just may not get around to it soon (would in the summer should it not be tackled by then). The place to do it would be the talk page of WP:Notability (sports), I think - as the talk page of WP:NTENNIS would not get much/enough traffic. Mayumashu (talk) 15:37, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 January newsletter

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to   The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by   Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to   Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1,   Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and   Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!

A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round two is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn and The ed17 22:34, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
