Thank you for the welcome, victuallers. It is nice to be able to contribute to Wikipedia as well as correcting blatant errors in some articles. Now maybe you can help me with an question I have:
{{helpme}}
Is it possible to edit the info on the History page ?? Specifically I wish to replace an IP address in an edit entry that I forgot to log in for. Hopefully I've done this correctly.
- No, you can't do that. History can't be changed, not even in Wikipedia articles. What you can do is make a post on the article's talk page letting others know that the IP edit was by you. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells • Otter chirps • HELP) 20:28, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- (e/c)Unfortunately it isn't. If you don't want your IP visible in the history, please send the difflink to Special:Emailuser/Oversight. They can erase it from the history. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 20:30, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Wow...that was quick!!! Thank you for the info, gents. Mr. Symonds, I'm not clear on what you mean by "difflink" so
{{helpme}}
Please explain what a difflink is....to a poor newbie. TIA.
- You're welcome. :) In the history, you should see (hist) (prev). The "prev" is a link to a permanent link that shows what changes were made. The URL of that should be sent to oversight. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 20:47, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Image source and copyright licensing problem with Image:GT750KRed.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:GT750KRed.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the image under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:26, 8 January 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 22:26, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- I see that you've added a claim of permission, but you still haven't added a licensing tag to the image. If the original creator just released it to the general public, you probably want {{PD-author}}. (ESkog)(Talk) 04:37, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Re: Image
editI found your problem, and fixed it here. On Wikipedia, file names are case sensitive, including the file extension such as jpg. Since the file's extension was in lowercase and your reference had it uppercase, the page couldn't find the image. Should be all fixed up now. (ESkog)(Talk) 04:35, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
License tagging for File:GT380JRed.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:GT380JRed.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 05:05, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
February 2009
editWelcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, you may not know that Wikipedia has a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Using different styles throughout the encyclopedia, as you did in Suzuki GT550, makes it harder to read. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 05:45, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Speedy deletion nomination of File:SRISfg1.jpg
editA tag has been placed on File:SRISfg1.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
