Good luck!
Introduction
editHi, Heidi. I am very new to WP and am interested in working on the psychology section. I wanted to get an idea of who are the current contributors, their backgrounds, etc. so I know the layout a bit. And I wanted to introduce myself, as well. I am quite impressed with the breath of your contributions and am intriqued from whence they come. I am not sure exactly the social proprieties are but if you have any advice about contributing to the psychology section, might you drop me a short note. Thanks.

History - the unconscious mind is controversial, at best
editI wonder if you aren't confusing Freud's dynamic unconscious with unconscious processes in the mind? I think the section you deleted needs to be rewritten but the historical connection to Freud is essential. However, I think this whole section needs an overall edit for clarity and organization. I propose to try to do some of it but am not sure if it will be worth the effort, i.e., whether it won't just be deleted because of it sounding too academic. What do you think?

Can you help me?
editHi Heida Maria, you'r Icelandic, I wonder if you could help me? I try to find out how to pronounce the name of the island Surtsey. Do you know how to notate that in IPA, or could you describe to me how to pronounce it? Is the "u" pronounced like "u" in "you" or like "r" in "sir"? The "ey" like "ey" in Reykjavík or like "I" in "Iceland" (or like the "Í" in "Íceland")? Thanks for any hints! --Wirthi 18:49, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your last reply. We were able to create an IPA-transcription of how to pronounce Surtsey.
- I have another two questions for you. First, perhaps easier to explain: What is the real name of the sports club Breidablik Kópavogur. Quite a few sources on the internet call this club Breidablik Kópavagur (not the difference of using a or o in Kópavogur). The city is called Kópavogur so I guess the first version is correct, or is this some kind of grammar issue?
- The other question is about politics. Iceland seems to have quite an active political landscape. Especially the social democrats seem to have "a few different parties". This creates some misunderstandings; on the german wikipedia we have de:Sozialdemokratische Partei Islands (Social Democratic Party (Iceland), Alþýðuflokkurinn) and de:Sozialdemokratische Volkspartei ("socialdemocratic people's party"). For the second one we neither have a link to the english wikipedia nor an icelandic name. There is a party Socialist Party (Iceland) though, that ceased to exist in 1968 (was merged into AlÞýðubandalag, "peoples alliance"). The article in the german wikipedia claims the party still exists. Can you confirm the englisch WP-Articles (Social Democratic Party (Iceland), Socialist Party (Iceland) and People's Alliance (Iceland)) are correct and i can use the data there to correct the german ones? Thanks for your help! --Wirthi 07:44, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Not rods and cones
editDear Heida Maria,
In the discussion on the article on afterimages, you said: There is not universal agreement about wheither a negative afterimage results from adaption of cones; increasingly people are looking at adaption in ganglion cells in the retina and cells in the lateral geniculate nucleus of the brain.--Heida Maria 14:46, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
I replied:
- But I thought one can rule out LGN neurons' being primarily responsible for afterimages by showing that pressure blinding abolishes afterimages. That would be consistent with afterimages' being mediated by the photoreceptors or by the retinal ganglion cells. Robert P. O'Shea 07:06, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Actually I think you would be good to rewrite the entire article to address some of the problems I found with it. Robert P. O'Shea 07:11, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

last.fm
editHi Heida, I was looking at your last.fm page, and noticed that it contained a link to some personal information. If I may, I suggest that you either remove the link to your last.fm page, or remove the other link from you last.fm page. I've seen more than one case of an editor being stalked/harassed in real life because of Wikipedia, so it's probably best not to have any personal info available here. Either way, I'd recommend removing this from your talk page after reading it, just so no one gets any ideas. Cheers, faithless (speak) 04:26, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- Fair enough. :) faithless (speak) 04:36, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Wikimania 2010 could be coming to Stockholm!
editI'm leaving you a note as you may be interested in this opportunity.
People from all six Nordic Wiki-communities (sv, no, nn, fi, da and is) are coordinating a bid for Wikimania 2010 in Stockholm. I'm sending you a message to let you know that this is occurring, and over the next few months we're looking for community support to make sure this happens! See the bid page on meta and if you like such an idea, please sign the "supporters" list at the bottom. Tack (or takk), and have a wonderful day! Mike H. Fierce! 09:48, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
