- Please, don't leave junk messages on my talk page, I will delete it and then warn you.
- Also, please sign your name with four tides, or I will be busy checking who posted me that message!
- Please leave new messages on Archive 1, the page you are now here is an old one.
- Also, the norm is to leave new messages on the bottom of the page, thanks.
- Please obey the holmes.sherlock law.

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to User_talk:Comeon, you will be blocked from editing. Giles Bennett (Talk, Contribs) 08:39, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your message on my talk page. I'm not an admin, no (and I'm certainly not your admin), I'm just another user who saw your changes, reverted them, then placed the warnings above to try and warn you away from continuing with your unhelpful actions. If you want to make editing tests, try the sandbox where you can play around to your hearts content! Giles Bennett (Talk, Contribs) 08:53, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Your questions
editI'm sorry, but I don't understand the question you've left for me. I understand that you created your account a day ago, but I don't know why you would expect an admin to contact you, as no-one has a specific admin assigned to them. Just use the site - if you have any questions you can leave them for a specific user on their talk page, or post them on the WP:Help desk help desk. Giles Bennett (Talk, Contribs) 09:02, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Your recent edits
editDespite what I've said above, you've continued to act in a way which could be considered vandalism - the addition of the {{administrator}} template to my user page, and your amendments to Christopher Lloyd are unacceptable. Please refrain from acting in this way, or you run the risk of being banned from wikipedia. Giles Bennett (Talk, Contribs) 09:46, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Your sandbox
editBecause you included a deletion tag, and I assumed you wanted your sandbox deleted (we get similar requests all the time). I'll put it back for you, without the tags. NawlinWiki 14:18, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
I've restored your sandbox at User:Holmes.sherlock/Sandbox. While nobody has a specific administrator assigned to them, I'll be glad to answer questions you might have. NawlinWiki 14:22, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
You can find me on this list of administrators. NawlinWiki 12:21, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- You put {{helpme}} in your sandbox. This alerted me (and presumably several other users) that someone was looking for help; do you need help, or were you just testing? --ais523 11:28, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
- What do you need help with? --ais523 11:35, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
- Becoming an administrator is something that's more likely to happen in the long-term (I was a user for over 6 months before I became an administrator, and had almost 6000 edits at that point). See a guide to applying for adminship for more information. You're extremely unlikely to become an admin in the near future, as many editors will automatically oppose any new or inexperienced user, or a user with recent vandalism warnings. There's plenty of administrative-style work you can do without being an administrator, though, although you should try to get experience with articles too. Hope that helps! --ais523 11:44, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
- What do you need help with? --ais523 11:35, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
There's no reason to delete the article. Cheers, JetLover 03:39, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Why did you do that? --John 06:11, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah but why did you put the deletion template on my user page? --John 05:17, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Ok. Please don't edit my user page again. Thank you for moving it back but you should have left it alone after that instead of re-adding vandalism added by another user. I'll accept it was a mistake but in general you shouldn't ever edit another user's page. Also the norm is to leave new messages at the bottom in talk pages. --John 05:23, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Please stop creating unnecessary categories and templates
editHello. Would you please stop creating pages that serve no useful purpose, such as Template:Oasishongkong and Category:Oasis Hong Kong Airlines? You are merely cluttering up the site and creating more work for people to clean up after you. If you continue to do this sort of thing, you will probably be blocked from editing.
I'm guessing that you intend to use the template on your user page. You should simply insert the same code directly into the page. The template would only be useful if many users wanted to insert the same box into their user pages, which seems quite unlikely. Tualha (Talk) 23:14, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
TfD nomination of Template:Oasishongkong

editThank you for uploading Image:Cabo.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 10:22, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: (User talk:ais523) User:holmes.sherlock
editThe Wikipedia Signpost (Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost or WP:POST) is Wikipedia's "internal newspaper"; it's a newspaper-like page and subpages that runs some regular columns, and usually also some special stories, representing goings-on in Wikipedia and in its relation to Real life. ais523 11:01, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- If you're interested in writing for the Signpost, check WP:POST/N/O, the newsroom where the next issue is planned (there's only a few hours left before the next issue is finalised, so the one after would be a good one to aim for); if you have an idea for a story, it may be a good idea to contact User:Ral315 first, as that user is currently in charge of deciding what is included.
- As for administratorship, WP:GRFA should be essential reading for anyone planning to become an administrator at some point; it explains the process and what's expected of an administrator. With only 238 edits, it seems very likely that you would be opposed by a large number of users on the grounds of lack of experience if you applied now (which happens to every inexperienced user who applies for adminship), but it can be something to aim for in the future. (As a comparison, check my edit statistics when I applied for adminship; I had been editing for over 9 months by then.) The most important piece of advice on that page is There is a lot of admin stuff you can do without being an admin!; helping with such tasks is a very good way to help Wikipedia and also aids with a future attempt for adminship. ais523 13:12, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Your request for adminship
editRegarding your requests in various places for adminship, I thank you for your eagerness to serve the Wikipedia community, but you really don't have the experience yet for us to seriously evaluate you (you've only made two edits to a single article, for example). Please read Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship and submit a request when you have more experience editing articles. Thanks.--Chaser - T 13:51, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/nominate, which EVula pointed out above, is the page. I predict, nay know, that the request will not be successful. You simply do not have the experience and probably won't get even a single support. I don't mean to offend you, but I don't want your feelings to get hurt worse at RFA.--Chaser - T 01:52, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hello! I came across a tool that lets us know how many posts we edited. Here is your edit count. I hope that helps! Sincerely, --Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 02:01, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Not to be mean, but you've been told repeatedly both the proper procedure for creating and submitting your RfA, and been advised that doing so right now would most likely be met with failure. While you're still welcome to make an attempt, please do so using the instructions given, and not place broken links in the wrong place.[1] EVula // talk // ☯ // 02:04, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- I highly recommend you stay far far away from RFA. you have two mainspace edits. I can assure you with 100% accuracy rate that a current rfa would fail. Please read up on wikipedias policies and contribute/understand this project before you request adminship. Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 02:11, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed, that's some fairly good advice. Administrators must be active in several areas of Wikipedia, with a good portion of the work being concentrated on the encyclopedia itself. Help improve the site and show that you can be trusted with an administrator's tools, and you'll eventually become an admin. EVula // talk // ☯ // 02:19, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Image tagging for Image:Nn20070701a5a.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Nn20070701a5a.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

editLicense tagging for Image:Holmes.sherlockoasis.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Holmes.sherlockoasis.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Holmes.sherlockbaseball.jpg)
editThanks for uploading Image:Holmes.sherlockbaseball.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 08:56, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Barnstar on your userpage
editYou have edited your user page to make it appear as though I have awarded you a barnstar. I haven't, and having seen many of your somewhat random, and frequently unhelpful, contributions to Wikipedia over the months there's no likelihood that I'm going to. I have removed the barnstar from your userpage -please consider this a warning for your behaviour. Giles Bennett (Talk, Contribs) 18:10, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for your message. I am not an admin, nor am I "your" admin. I cannot block you from editing, nor have I done so. I saw your user page because I keep an eye on your contributions - a few of your edits a while ago gave me cause for concern, so every now and then I check what you're up to. The fact that you falsely attributed a barnstar to me only gives me more reason to do so in the future. Giles Bennett (Talk, Contribs) 12:06, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Wondering
editIf I am misreading this entirely, please forgive me. It would seem that you are having a hard time reading and/or understanding Wikipedia. Wikipedia can be a confusing place and perhaps you want some help learning about it. I think you should go to Wikipedia:Contributing FAQ and read it; it may help you a lot. If you need more help than perhaps you can be adopted by an experienced editor. In order to do that, simply copy/paste this: {{subst:dated adoptme}} onto your userpage. I hope this helps. :) -WarthogDemon 19:17, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Helpme
editA tag has been placed on Helpme, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}}
to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --== Waycool27 ==-- 05:28, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Questions
editI've been watching you, and i have a few questions. The main one I would like answered is simply:
Why do you want to become an administrator so quickly and so soon? DurinsBane87 07:14, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
But what is it that you can't do without being an admin? You have a nearly free range of editing available to you without being an admin, so I still don't understand it. What can an admin do that you can't do that is so important? DurinsBane87 03:53, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
I just don't understand the motivations here. It just doesn't make sense to me, so I was trying to make sense of it. DurinsBane87 21:22, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Adoption
editI'm afraid that I'm not going to adopt you. I am also going to remove your name from the list of people offering adoption. You have not been editing for 4 months as you claim. In addition, your recent behaviour makes it inappropriate for you to be offering advice to anyone. Please stop offering to adopt other people until you are much more experienced. Thank you. BencherliteTalk 07:32, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
I have also put speedy delete tags on User:Horribleguy and User talk:Horribleguy. Was there any particular reason to move your user/user talk pages to that name, and back again? BencherliteTalk 07:52, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, I just came across your userpage then- how are you?
- If you'd like, I'd be willing to adopt you. I feel that at the moment you are not quite ready to adopt yourself, however you could find that your editing would benefit from some mentorship. Interested?
- Just contact me on my talk page. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 08:16, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Adoption
editThanks Holmes.sherlock, but I decline the adoption on the basis of already starting the adoption process with another user.

Thanks for your offer for adoption, but it seems quite a few people have suggested that you aren't prepared to adopt someone. Also I have found someone else. Springreturning 00:55, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Suggestion
editHey, just a suggestion- How about rather than asking users to post a message on Archive one, you could copy and paste the content here and put it in there? It's probably easier that way, as the new messages bar doesn't come up when people post in an archive (which is why I'm typing this here), and doesn't cause much confusion. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 10:07, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Warning
editYou recently placed a warning for disruptive editing on my user page, care to explain why? Snappy56 10:21, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
What...
edit...is this supposed to be User:Holmes.sherlock/Sandbox/Sandbox/Sandbox/Sandbox/Sandbox/Sandbox/Sandbox/Sandbox/Sandbox/Sandbox? I'm guessing that it isn't a constructive contribution, and upon scrolling through your talk page and contributions, I see a long history of disruption flowing from your account, and very few positive contributions. However, I hope that we can change that, if you're willing.
The best thing I can suggest that you do is start editing articles. Find a subject you know a lot about - your place of work, a town you know about, or anything like that, and add to its article. If an article doesn't exist, and your subject meets our notability guidelines, then you can even start a new article. You could take a look at our tutorial for information about how we work here, and I would suggest that you read that and some of our other policies to help guide yourself in contributing.
I'm you're feeling adventurous, there's a small link on the left of this page (near the top) to a "Random article". Click it, and you'll be amazed what you'll find, and, more often than not, you'll find an article in dire need of some help, be it typo fixing or research.
I really hope that you can become a positive contributor, but must remind you that Wikipedia is a serious project, with serious aims - we don't mind users working on their user pages, but we do like to see more effort being put into articles. Thanks - if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask on my talk page or here. Martinp23 18:56, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
SGGHs comments
editI agree with the comments made above, a large number of odd behaviours have been brought to my attention:
- this edit is very inappropriate, if you suspect vandalism you report it on WP:AIV, delete tags are not for blocking editors, and you clearly havent taken the time to learn how to use them or to understand the anti-vandalism policies. You are also guilty of vandalism yourself (see here and here).
- this edit is just you trying to impersonate an admin, again a big no-no.
- Please don't edit other peoples user pages without cause or permission, like you did here
- You have also submitted to be an admin with nearly zero understanding of how it works, there are numerous edits to support this and other users have spoken about it above.
- You need to understand how copyright tags work also, see this history
Numerous other worries have been raised that I haven't the time to list here. Basically, I really suggest you stop requestng to be an admin, and stop trying to enforce policies you really don't understand. You really ought to edit helpfully, contribute to the content of this encyclopedia before trying even considering adminship. Four months of sporadicly helpful and unhelpful editing does not make you a "senior" editor as you have described yourself. Please try to learn how to walk before you start running, swimming and pole vaulting, try to follow User:Martinp23's advice above, or you might find yourself facing some blocks for disruption. Thanks SGGH speak! 19:12, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Holmes.sherlock/bot
editHi, it's me, holmes.sherlock again! I want to request for a bot, what can I do, and what is a bot? See my userpage. Thanks and cheers, Holmes.sherlock 14:33, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, how are you?
- I'll answer your question first...
- Information on bots can be found at WP:BOT. It's an automatic process that you must write and then put it up for approval to use on Wikipedia.
- Also, I've had some things to do at home, so I haven't been active for the past couple of days- so I only just noticed that you've stopped editing Wikipedia. That's a shame, but I'm sure you have your reasons. If you left because of the comments on your talk page, right at the bottom- I actually think it's a good idea to listen to these comments, and perhaps learn from them. Just keep in mind that these people are not being mean to you, they are just trying to help you, and their advice would advance you considerably in your editing skills. Just make sure you don't take it personally.
- If you do decide to return, then please feel free to ask me anything again!
- Good luck- CattleGirl talk 10:53, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
CattleGirl talk has smiled at you! Smiles promote WikiLove and hopefully this one has made your day better. Spread the WikiLove by smiling at someone else, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend. Happy editing!

CattleGirl talk 04:55, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hello again!
- That's great that you're back. I've removed the bot template from your userpage, as you're not a bot- you have to write one first. I'm not quite sure how it works, I'm not that good with computers, but it's an automated process that you have to write a script for. You can probably find a tutorial on Google- but keep in mind that you have to list it for approval, and have it approved, before you can run it. Oh, I just found some valuable info- at Wikipedia:Creating a bot.
- Back to editing- I've been thinking of some things that you can do to improve your editing skills. Firstly, the comments above...
- I think the most important thing you can do right now is edit the actual encyclopedia. You see, at the moment I've been telling you bits and pieces, but the best thing you can do, and the thing that other users will appreciate most is if you put it into practise, with actual editing. I suggest you pick a topic that you're interested in, and do whatever needs to be done. All too often something that you're interested in will be at one of the pages listed at WP:BACK- just by clearing up a small backlog, you've done a lot and saved others a lot of work, it's rather satisfying.
- Another thing you can do is get involved in deletion discussions. No doubt you've seen just how big the encyclopedia is- well a lot that's put up here is either crap or borderline crap, and a decision needs to be made on whether they fit the Deletion policy. If they do, they'll stay and be worked on (another thing you can do), and if they don't, they'll be deleted. There's a number of discussions you can be involved in, such as WP:AFD, WP:TFD, and WP:UCFD. Also, if you want to run for an RFA, this is something that the users there will be looking for- active participation in discussions.
- Reverting vandalism is also something that's highly satisfying, and earns you a huge tick in my book. There can never be enough people looking out for vandalism and reverting it. At first, as you get used to it, I suggest you use the recent changes link on the left hand side of the page- later, when you're more experienced reverting vandalism, there's some tools that can assist you to do it faster.
- There's quite a lot of things you can be involved in- another one is a Wikiproject. There's sure to be one on a topic you're interested in.
- Another thing that can help other users is if you fill in an edit summary, which is in the bo just under the editing window. Just write a quick summary, a couple of words, about the edit you just made. This can show up in the history so that users know what changes have been made, which makes for quicker editing on their part, rather than searching.
- Phew! That was quite a long reply, and I really hope some of the things I've said in it help you. As I said before, I can tell you bits and pieces here, but it's rather ineffective until you put some of it into practise. I think if you do some of the things here, you'll advance quite a way in your editing skills, other editors will notice what you've been doing, and this can all help when you're eventually ready for an RFA.
- Once you've done some of the things here, a good idea would be to go for Editor review. I've had two in my time here, and they both helped me enormously.
- Thanks for coming back! Cheers- CattleGirl talk 04:55, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

User page blanking at User:Mctcool
editHello Holmes.sherlock. I just have a quick question about an unusual edit of yours. On July 9, you welcomed new user Mctcool, and on September 1 you left them a {{Smile}}. But today, you blanked their user page with an edit summary that they are a "non-existing user". Was that simply because they have not edited in a while?
Normally, we do not blank a user's page simply because they have not been active for a couple months. Maybe they will come back at some point. I have reverted your blanking, but if you have any questions, please ask here (I will "watchlist" this page for a short time). Thanks, Satori Son 14:51, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

editHello, how can I order for the wikipedia signpost? I am not on a wiki break, I am just testing, if you are kind enough, please help me delete the wikibreak template on my user page. Please reply me on my talk page, thanks, Holmes.sherlock 10:33, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, how are you? Great to hear from you.
- For the signpost, just put your name on the list here, and it'll be delivered to you the next time it's published- once a week.
- Cheers- CattleGirl talk 08:03, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Your recent edits to Circumference
editI have reverted your edit to circumference, as well as your move to Circumference (circle). The edits constituted vandalism, and the move was unnecessary. Please refrain from making edits such as those without first discussing them on the articles talk page first. Giles Bennett (Talk, Contribs) 13:32, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to Yuri Gagarin, you will be blocked from editing. Giles Bennett (Talk, Contribs) 13:35, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Can I ask why, exactly, you felt the need to translate Wikipedia:Bot requests into Chineese and back again? Of course I assume there was a good reason, but could it not have been done in the sandbox?? Happy‑melon 15:30, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Haruki Ikegami
editI have nominated Haruki Ikegami, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Haruki Ikegami. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Admin coaching request status
editYou have expressed interest in undergoing the Admin coaching program. However, after reviewing your edit history, I feel you may need more experience editing (i.e., >2,500 edits & 4 months of activity) on Wikipedia before you can know for certain your ready to begin the process of becoming an administrator. Therefore, at this time, your application for Admin Coaching has been declined.
My suggestion would be to seek adoption from a more experienced user who can help you experience all of the various components of editing an encyclopedia. If you decide adoption is not for you, there is also the editor review process that may help you find areas to improve upon in our editing. If you would like to talk more about this, please feel free to leave me a my talk page. MBisanz talk 21:25, 27 February 2008 (UTC) |
