Inappropriate username

edit

Your username is inappropriate or too similar to an existing username (see our blocking policy for more information). You are encouraged to create a new account and contribute to Wikipedia under a more appropriate username, and in a constructive manner. See Wikipedia:Username for guidance on selecting an appropriate username. You may also edit Wikipedia without creating an account. You are not allowed to edit Wikipedia under an inappropriate username.

I have also noticed you have been engaging in vandalism[1], please stop pretending to be the publicist Howard Bloom, or prove you are the person at WP:RFC/NAME.

If you want to keep the contributions from your old account for your new one, leave a note there. This can only be done before you create the new one.

Please visit Wikipedia:Changing username for information.

vandalism?

edit

There seems to be an issue about whether you wrote a chapter on masturbation for the Boy Scout handbook. I looked through the edit history but cannot quite pin down when it was inserted, and it looks like probable vandalism. Could you comment please? Sophy's Duckling 04:46, 20 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sophia--I know it sounds like an act of literary vandalism to say that I wrote a chapter on masturbation for the Boy Scout handbook, but that is the very first assignment the Boy Scouts gave me when I worked for them over a summer vacation. Howbloom 20:47, 21 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
It does seem rather odd. o.O Sophy's Duckling 03:48, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sophia--hopefully our email exchange has taken care of this. Shifting usernames is confusing and I'd prefer not to do it. Is that ok? Howard Howbloom 20:51, 21 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
As you provided proof you are Howard Bloom, you will not have to change your username. Sophy's Duckling 03:48, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
It is my understanding that the above means that you do not need to change usernames. Best of luck and happy editing. --Kukini hablame aqui 22:11, 3 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions

edit

hi, i found the article about you using the random article button. i noticed when i was reading it that it seemed too long and so i went to the talk page to see if there was a reason. i noticed that some editors had made really uncivil comments, and i decided to stick around to convince you that the wikipedia system is not against you, nor do all wikipedians do that sort of thing. i request that you ignore what the other editors said about your, um, sanity (not to imply that you'd be interested in pursuing such pettiness of course!).

as for the article itself, i think it is definitely too long. i suggest offhand deleting the entire early life section or summarizing it like "you always were fascinated with physical and social science" and not distracting the focus from what you've done to deserve an encyclopedia article. don't worry, you're a published author, what you did way back when will not be lost just because it's not included on wikipedia. in any event, removing the early life section will give them a lot less pretext to make stupid comments and will probably make the cleanup crew really happy. License tagging for Image:Bloom by BRAMLEY the good one reduced.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Bloom by BRAMLEY the good one reduced.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 06:05, 27 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your bio

edit

Editing your own bio is a conflict of interest and considered inappropriate, for what should be some fairly obvious reasons. If you wish to see material inserted into or removed from the article it would really be best to let other editors handle it. You could facilitate this process by notifying others about your concerns on the article's talkpage or at the Village Pump (assitance) forum here. If you have any questions you can post them either here or on my talkpage and I'll do my best to answer. Happy editing - Doc Tropics 19:01, 28 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just so you know, I started a new discussion section here. Please read it. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 03:34, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lame?

edit

Are you really that desperate for attention that you want to hawk your snake oil on Wikipedia? I mean, how full of yourself can you get? If you are really worthy of an encyclopedia article, let someone else write it. Get an education and stop wasting the time of people who are in touch with reality. 24.199.92.132 (talk) 12:50, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of interest

edit

Mr. Bloom, I'd like to maintain a good working relationship with you while we try to improve the article Howard Bloom, but please understand that it's simply not appropriate for you to edit the article directly yourself. If you feel material should be added or removed, please post to the article's talkpage and bring it to the attention of other editors, or contact another editor directly on their private talkpage. If you edit the article directly again, I will feel compelled to report it at the appropriate Admin Noticeboard. Please, work with other editors on the talkpage. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

Proposed deletion of Mass behavior

edit

The article Mass behavior has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable theory. Article looks like self promotion

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Reminders

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article The Space Development Steering Committee, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 14:44, 22 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, instead of writing it yourself. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you.--Orange Mike | Talk 14:44, 22 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
