Hello, I'm FDW777. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Michelle Fairley, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. FDW777 (talk) 15:58, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello FDW777, I added a source to the sentence I wrote. Is it released again? Thanks. HtheLondoner (talk) 16:12, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

If you mean the sentence As of June 2020, Michelle Fairley's most recently released work is her role as Marian Wallace in the new Sky Atlantic series, Gangs of London I noticed that was referenced, and did not remove it from the article. I did remove the infobox additions, in particular the date of birth which has been repeatedly added to the article and has never been properly referenced, if referenced at all. See WP:BLPDOB regarding this. Thank you. FDW777 (talk) 16:15, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Okay I’ll figure out how to site her date of birth... I keep getting notifications that the photos I added are going to get deleted, but I thought I put the sources down the right way. HtheLondoner (talk) 16:17, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Actually it did delete the profile photo and the signature photo. How do I put those back up? I cited them from where I got them. HtheLondoner (talk) 16:19, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

There is no point adding photos which are copyright violations to the article. FDW777 (talk) 16:21, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I don’t understand how they’re copyright violations when I cite them. HtheLondoner (talk) 16:25, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Everything I added except for one sentence got deleted. I don’t care about the photos anymore, but you also deleted all the biographical information I put up such as her birthday, birth name, etc. Nothing else in that section is cited so why does what add keep getting deleted? HtheLondoner (talk) 16:40, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

See WP:BURDEN. Existing unrefernced content does not give you an excuse to add any more. FDW777 (talk) 17:13, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I’m not asking for an excuse. You’re being very rude to someone who is just trying to make sure I reference things the right way. I’m completely new at this. All I’m wondering is how I’m supposed to cite information in that section when nothing is cited there already? I have nothing to use as an example, and when I look up how to cite in that section of the page where I’m trying to add her birth name, birthday, height, etc, I don’t find information on that. I have added a cited sentence in the text part of the page in hopes that her date of birth won’t get deleted again. Instead of scolding me, try being a little more constructive please. HtheLondoner (talk) 17:28, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I've been constructive. I've explained at Talk:Michelle Fairley#Date of birth why the Companies House reference isn't acceptable (while also noting it didn't even reference a full date of birth anyway) due to our WP:BLP policy, which is very strict about how we write about living people. My first post in this section links to a tutorial on citing sources, something you seemed to have no difficulty with relating to the sentence you added that I left in the article. My honest belief is that Michelle Fairley's date of birth has not been published in reliable references, other than the public record at Companies House which is prohibited due to WP:BLPPRIMARY. I would be happy to be proved wrong about this, but I will also add there are far more interesting and important things that can be added to that, or any other article, than a date of birth. FDW777 (talk) 18:03, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I’ve just checked the page. Please explain to me why my information was removed. It was a sentence that gave a date of birth and it was cited from a government, public document. It’s indisputable that that is the accurate date of birth. Please tell me why cited information was deleted; and without my knowledge as well. HtheLondoner (talk) 18:06, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I agree that there are other interesting things to add, but everything I try to add and cite is removed, so I suppose I’ll just give up. HtheLondoner (talk) 18:07, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I have previously mentioned WP:BLPPRIMARY. I mentioned it in the talk page discussion I linked to, and even included what it said. It says Do not use public records that include personal details, such as date of birth, home value, traffic citations, vehicle registrations, and home or business addresses. The policy is clear, we do not use public records for the date of birth of a living person. FDW777 (talk) 18:10, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Michelle Fairley#Career includes the sentence you added, since it was appropriately referenced. It is simply not correct to say everything you try to add is removed. FDW777 (talk) 18:11, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I understand the privacy aspect, even though her date of birth appears multiple times in public documents. If I cite it using a google link though, I’m afraid it won’t be allowed either. That’s where I got other information for the info box section. Is there a way to cite in the info box that I’m just missing? I’m just trying to make her page have more interesting content because I value what she offers in her art so much. Today’s the first time I’ve tried to do any of this and I promise I am trying to read through all the rules according to Wikipedia. It just feels like I’m being stopped no matter what I do. Before I try again, is a google link a valid citation? Thanks. HtheLondoner (talk) 18:15, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Earlier I said “everything but one sentence gets deleted.” I was remiss in not saying that the second time. HtheLondoner (talk) 18:19, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I have previously looked myself and been unable to reference her date of birth, my belief is it cannot be referenced at the present time. A Google link is not a valid citation. Please take my advice and concentrate on improving the article, or others, in some other way. FDW777 (talk) 18:23, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Alright, I’ll work on that. As far as photos go. I understand that I can’t add any that I didn’t take myself, is that correct? I’d like to add more photos of her, but from what I read, unless I get permission from the person who took the photo and posted it on the internet, I can’t post it on Wikipedia myself? HtheLondoner (talk) 18:26, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

No, you cannot. You are unlikely to be able to find any free images of Michelle Fairley that have not already been uploaded to Commons, and any image you find searching the internet will be copyrighted unless explicitly stated otherwise. FDW777 (talk) 19:00, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Okay that’s what I thought. I’ll see what I can find on Commons then and not use any I find on the internet. Thank you. HtheLondoner (talk) 19:15, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
