  • Hi Electriccatfish2, thank you for contacting me and for your offer. At this time I have too many responsibilities, both on and off WP, to follow up with this. However, if you wish to stay in touch with me about this or any other matter, please feel free to do so. Again, thanks so much for thinking of me, I am greatly flattered. Sincerely, IZAK (talk) 20:51, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Koidanov Hasidic dynasty

Hi Izak, thanks for message. I removed part of the new text, since it seemed to be copied verbatim from the Nadler site, which is clearly marked Copyright ©2010, YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. All Rights Reserved.

I would accept that the encyclopaedia ref (and the deleted ref for that matter) at least establish notability, although I have to say I'm not clear myself why a religious genealogy appears to be automatically notable, whereas its secular equivalent is just another family tree. The term "reb/rebbe" isn't explained — I assume its a honorific like "reverend" or "iman", but it's clearly not the same as "rabbi", perhaps you could clarify?

The AFD seems to be amassing some "keep" votes, so it's probably simpler to let it take its course rather than halt in mid-process. This nomination must seem an irritant to people who know the subject, but in its original form at least it was pretty unintelligible to someone like me with no knowledge of Belarussian Jewish history. Hope that's OK, Jimfbleak - talk to me? 05:45, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

  • Hi Jim, thanks for contacting me. There is an article about Rebbe (a type of Rabbi), and of course in depth articles relating to Hasidic Judaism, which is what this is all about. In the Hasidic tradition, the role and notion of a Hasidic Rebbe is quite broad. The title and institution is "dynastic" in nature as these Rebbes/Rabbis rule over their flocks of varying sizes. Bottom line, there is no Hasidic Judaism without Rebbes so that is why they are so important. It's a long, complex and labyrinthine subject. In future, PLEASE feel free to contact me I will be more than glad to help out, or User:Yoninah, User:Avraham, User:Jfdwolff who know more about this subject (there are others) or some editors familiar with this subject via WP:TALKJUDAISM at WP:JUDAISM if you have any questions. Thanks again for being so honest. Sincerely, IZAK (talk) 06:08, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
OK, thanks for reply. As you probably gathered, I wandered into this by chance. I get annoyed when people "mess up" bird pages, so I know what it's like when a non-regular weighs in. Still, it helped to improve the article in the end. I'm not convinced about the copyright thing, there was no indication that it was given as a quote, rather than just a cut-and-paste. Still, time to move on. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 05:28, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Yeshivat Ohr Yerushalayim

Thanks for filling in the references! Next time I'll ask you first before going to AFD. ;) Yoninah (talk) 22:35, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

  • Hi Yoninah, all my information came from careful Googling that took a good many hours since Google is filled with so much cyber "flotsam and jetsam" and you have to be determined and know what to look for. I had not heard of this yeshiva, but I assumed that if it was affiliated with the Orthodox Union and NCSY that it must have notability. I also assumed that it's rosh yeshiva was notable since if you Google his name you get lots of notable connections as I indicated the article and its citations. Thanks for caring. Pilzno (Hasidic dynasty)

Hi, I did some preliminary research on the topic and will try to fix up the article soon. It's not yet clear to me that there's a Hasidic dynasty here – the rabbi of the Stanton Street Synagogue was descended from a rabbinical family in Pilzno, and one of his students became the Pilzno Rav in Ramat Beit Shemesh. Just because the latter has "chassidim" doesn't make it a chassidut. Best, Yoninah (talk) 07:40, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I fixed up the page with whatever I could find. It's still not clear to me that this is a Hasidic dynasty rather than a Hasidic group. However, if Rabbi Singer's great-grandson was named as the new leader, maybe it could be called a dynasty... Best, Yoninah (talk) 21:41, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi IZAK,

I haven't had the opportunity to meet you, but I know that you are an avid supporter of the Parsha pages... I hope that I can bring something to the table with those pages. Before I go on some all out editing spree, I just want to confirm with you, if you think that my new layouts, as seen on Lech-Lecha (parsha) and Noach (parsha) are acceptable to you. I know there needs to be more work for consistency, but is the general format a good start for coming to some comprise between editors who want to rip those pages apart and those who want to keep them? Let me know what you think.

Thanks,   — Jasonasosa 09:05, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

::I'm actually pretty pissed off at User:Mann jess for starting this mess and who continues to disrupt the pages. I understand the revert, based on everything that has happened. My initial edits on Noach were conducted before discussions for consensus took place. It is fine that the pages are back to normal now. I am stepping away from editing the parsha pages indefinitely. Thanks,   — Jasonasosa 09:54, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Weekly torah portions

Hi. Please read WP:CANVASS. Your recent canvassing of individual editors in addition to leaving the comment at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Judaism could very easily be taken as an attempt to canvass individuals who support your own side, and that is not acceptable as per canvassing guidelines. I also feel I must comment on some of your own apparent dishonesty and refusal to acknowledge same on the talk page. There are extremely serious questions whether you and the other editors you have recently canvassed are capable of adhering to WP:POV in this matter, and I sincerely urge you as an individual to both confine your comments to matter of policies and guidelines, rather than raising complately irrelevant attempts at impugning others, and also to adhere to WP:POV regarding edits to the articles in question. Should I find any failure to do so, I will of course be more or less obligated to raise the matter at the appropriate noticeboards. John Carter (talk) 15:32, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi IZAK. I'm not sure I have anything constructive to add, but I've added the discussion to my Watchlist. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 01:50, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi, IZAK. It seems I have to warn you yet again. Your recent transparently false allegations about me on the talk page are a clear and gross breach of the standard of behavior of even children. Should you continue, I will like any other editor be free to take you to a noticeboard or ArbCom for the possible imposition of sanctions. Let us be honest here, shall we, IZAK? The argument is whether the articles meet notability. Blindly and mindlessly repeating irrelevant factoids while ignoring that basic issue is not acceptable behavior. Neither is raising false accusations against others.

Regarding some of your comments on the WT:NOT page, has it ever occurred to you that the rather irrational, dare I say stupid?, and grossly uncivil behavior that seems to be rather regular from you might be one of the reasons editors ignore articles? Because, basically, dealing with you makes the effort of improving the content unpleasant to them? In the event that there is any doubt regarding that matter, believe me when I say that I have had access to one of the best libraries on religion of all sorts, including Judaism, for several years, and one of, if not the, primary reason I have dealt with that content less than others is because of the bombastic, arrogant, and, yes, rather irrational behavior which you so regularly display.

Let me make it clear to you, IZAK. Your raising of false allegations and refusal to deal with matters of substance, while instead indulging in what might seem to other to be self-righteous, self-aggrandizing wikilawyering, is unacceptable by policies and guidelines. Should I see it continue from you, I believe that there will probably be sufficient basis to bring a case against you at either ArbCom or one of the admin noticeboards. You can apparently be useful in developing content, and it would be unfortunate to lose that. But, honestly, no longer forcing others to put up with your rather stupid and unthinking arrogrance might actually perhaps make it more likely that other editors might be willing to improve the content. For the record: This discussion moved on to Wikipedia talk:What Wikipedia is not/Archive 43#Is wikipedia a devotional compendium? and Wikipedia talk:What Wikipedia is not/Archive 42#Overwhelming consensus to keep the parsha articles and work on improving them to conform with WP standards without further action at that time. Jews of Bilad el-Sudan

שלום יצחק,

The Hebrew version of the article about the Jews of Bilad el-Sudan is currently debated. Do you happen to have access to a reliable source that confirms that these communities called themselves אַהְל יַהוּד בִּלָאד אַלסוּדָאן? Thanks, ליאור • Lior (talk) 07:08, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Thank you. It's just that I found zero results for this term outside of Wikipedia, and they consider renaming it to יהדות מערב אפריקה (West African Jewry). ליאור • Lior (talk) 10:48, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. I put the Judaism AFD page on my watchlist, but I don't seem to be getting these AFD notices. This stub was posted by the same editor who worked on Shlomo Sztencl. Hello, IZAK. You have new messages at Talk:Aryeh Tzvi Frommer.
Message added 13:53, 17 August 2012 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Hi and thanks for requesting my input. I have commented over there and I am re-posting here FYI:

Not too sure why this is worthy of a fuss, it's a minor point. Otherwise it gets too complicated and it's not worth it. This is why:

  1. Please see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Hebrew), Wikipedia:IPA for Hebrew, Hebrew phonology for a summary of what has transpired in the last 10+ years on WP.
  2. In this case, to be precise, the first part of his name (i.e. his first two given names are Hebrew) but his last name (i.e. surname) is not Hebrew but Yiddish/Germanic/Polish/Eastern European and could have yet more variations in web sources and books depending on the local accent, see Yiddish language and Wikipedia:IPA for Yiddish.
  3. Yiddish varied, the way Lithuanian and Russian Jews (in North-West Eastern Europe) spoke it is vastly different to the way Polish and Hungarian Jews (in South East/Central Europe) pronounced it. Nowadays Yiddish and even Hebrew have definitely been and are influenced by the Modern Hebrew in Israel and English in America depending on where those Yiddish and Hebrew speakers and users live.
  4. There is no "one way" to enforce or even induce correct Hebrew and Yiddish transliterations on WP because there are Jews who come from from various parts of the globe, and there are just too many articles.
  5. The Sephardim ("Spanish/Oriental") and the Ashkenazim ("German/European") Jews differ in the way they pronounce Hebrew words and there is a vast difference between the Modern Hebrew language versus Biblical Hebrew spoken by Talmudic scholars as well as "old-fashioned" secular academic ways of pronouncing it. Again, please see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Hebrew) etc.
  6. But this need not be complicated, just choose one spelling and stick with it and redirect all the rest to the one you choose, it really makes no difference because the man did have any contact with the English language and his name would and could be legitimately spelled differently and still be correct.
  7. By the way, the Arabic language is also flexible when transliterated, see Help:Arabic#Transliteration and Wikipedia:Arabic names.
  8. Therefore feel free to transliterate to whatever feels most acceptable as it will not make an iota of difference to the substance of the article. IZAK (talk) 20:04, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Genesis 1:3-5

Hi, I understand the need for expansion, but I'm not the one to do it. I don't have access to scholarly books, and I personally don't want to get into other theologies. Sorry. Yoninah (talk) 19:22, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited History of the Jews in Cape Verde, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Boa Vista and Ribeira Grande (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
