Speedy deletion nomination of Okoth Okombo

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Okoth Okombo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://face2faceafrica.com/article/four-interesting-facts-about-okoth-okombo-the-african-sign-language-founder-google-just-celebrated. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Maria Zankovetska Museum moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Maria Zankovetska Museum, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption.   Hello. Some of your recent genre changes, such as the one you made to Russian fascism (ideology), have conflicted with our neutral point of view and/or verifiability policies. While we invite all users to contribute constructively to Wikipedia, we urge all editors to provide reliable sources for edits made. When others disagree, we recommend you seek consensus for certain edits by discussing the matter on the article's talk page. Thank you. Veverve (talk) 17:20, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

It is not about genre, but I found no general warning for going against the consensus. Veverve (talk) 17:21, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
You have also restored the version which had clear WP:FICTREFs supporting POV, as had been proved at lenghts on the talk page of the article. Veverve (talk) 17:23, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Veverve I didn't find any consensus on the talk page. I found that one user decided to redirect and that is. I will now revert your version if you think it's better. But I say again, after careful reading of the talk page I found out that the article needs improvement, but no deletion via redirect. IgorTurzh (talk) 18:50, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Finding reliable sources regarding Russian fascism

edit

Recent news coverage within Ukraine is very unlikely to be sufficiently reliable for broad claims about Russian politics/ideology, as it's too close to events (understandably, when you're at war with your enemy you're unlikely to be worrying about academic neutrality/rigour) and, most importantly, is unlikely to meet the threshold of being reliably published, like a book printed by an academic publishing house, a journal article, or a report by a well-established think-tank. Scholarly sources are required for this type of content. There's additional guidance on using news sources here: 2 key points are that "scholarly sources and high-quality non-scholarly sources are generally better than news reports for academic topics", and TV news outlets may not publish their editorial policies (here's an example of the BBC's editorial guidelines). In particular, live on-air news interviews are not good enough as the outlet has no editorial control over what the interviewee says, so any comments are entirely based on the reputation of the expert, and essentially WP:SELFPUB (which should be avoided).

You may find the Wikipedia Library helpful, and I believe you qualify to use it given your edit count. It gives you free access to several main academic databases, so you can search for peer-reviewed/expert sources about Russian fascism/nationalism. Jr8825Talk 19:46, 13 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Jr8825 I understand your point. Thank you for your message. IgorTurzh (talk) 20:11, 13 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I see I was banned for UPE editing and helping Wikibusines spammers. So here I will describe and explain my edits so there would be no doubts in my ethical behaviour.

  • State clearly how you are being compensated for your edits, and describe any affiliation or conflict of interest you might have with the subjects you have written about.
    • Yuriy Allerov - I got to know this general when I saw changes in Ukrainian wikipedia at his page. There were changes in another article about Ukrainian general (who are both somehow connected during ATO operation in Donbas) and I patrolled them and also checked Yuriy Allerov. I also noticed that the page was created in English wikipedia but then you deleted it. I saw what you posted under deletion comment: created by banned bodiadub/wikibusines user. But I decided to recreate it openly and quickly, as it is not difficult to translate from Ukrainian to English and article about a general of the National Guard of Ukraine who fougth with Russian-backed separatists in Eastern Ukraine. I didn't ask a permission, as the topic is not banned /salted. You also reverted edits in Ukrainian page of Allerov, and I returned something back because there were good facts needed to be included into this man biograpy. That what I feel and state it clearly. I also updated Yuriy Allerov article a month-two ago, when I saw in the news that his son, a soldier, was killed near Izium in Kharkiv region in a figth with Russian troops. If you think I know Allerov and he asked me to put information about his dead son, than it is not true. I just want to thank him in such a way because his son sacrified his life for Ukraine.
    • Hacken.io - this company impressed me by the reliable coverage in USA and partly Europe mass-media. I did read the sources, and found out, that Hacken made a great investment into Ukrainian cyberwar victory over Russia. I deliberately decided to write about them on English wikipedia. But if you can see, I didn't put advertisiment information about them in order not to be accused of promoting cyber-crypto related Ukrainian company. I see that the company is notable in the scope of counter-fighting against Russian cyber warriors and it also made some damage to Russian infrastructure. That was well described in Forbes, WSJ I guess and a dozen of other mass-media outlets. I didn't put nor their website, nor their logo or company infobox. I just put the basic stub information. And I had and still have such a logic: If the page is not notable, then it will be deleted. If notable - will remain or/and will be expanded. I did a start for it believing it's worth being on Wikipedia. Actually, Hacken.io is a part of my series of articles devoted to reaction of private companies, people, and international community towards unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine. Here are my articles on this topic: Yuriy Shchyhol, Fundraising for Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Providing of Starlink satellites to Ukraine, Restriction of transit with the Kaliningrad Oblast. I also created Kuna company page - the first in CIS and largest cryptocurrency exchange. But this exchange is not so notable being the first in CIS (it's a doubtful reason as for me), but I was surprised with the fact how they managed to fundraise over 200 mln US dollars to a special cryptofund aimed to help Ukrainian army and refugees. This company was also so well described in USA media that I had no doubts when publishing it. And again, I made it neat, stub and without any logo, advertisement or even a website. I fouced on their phonemenal fundraising activities as what did they do is the firts time in World history from many aspects.
    • Infinum - it's the biggest Balkan and Southeast Europe software company. I found it on both Bosnian and Croatian wikipedias. I noticed it when I saw a facebook post in my newsfeed that this company helps Ukraininan specialists in the time of war. I did not find a relibalbe sources to prove that, as it was just a facebook story. However I liked the company as it won maybe the most successfull (Oscar like) design awards in its industry (IF, Awwwards, Red Dot). They are similar to Ukrainian Banda agency which created many cool stuff like Ukraine WOW which I published on wikipedia. I like such companies and I spent almost a year on Balkans more than 10 years ago, so for me it was easy to read the sources and decide if the topic is notable. And again, I did translate it from Bosnian, as the page there was smaller and neutral. I also did rewrite it and did not put any websites and logotypes. I planned to publish a page in English wikipedia about Banda Agency, as they have similar achievements.

By the way, I checked long time ago Meta wikipedia and the list of Wikibusines articles and I saw Allerov there, but I didn't feel bad or wrong, because I know the basic rule in wikipedia: if you have some questions, just ask them. So I'm glad you are asking, though after blocking.

    • Allo company is the biggest phone retailer in Ukraine working for 20 years I guess. It's an easy choice to write about something Ukrainian and significant. I made over 100k edits in Ukrainian wikipedia and created hundreds of company pages, but I see that Ukrainians are not so active in English wikipedia, so I make my contributions here to spread the word about Ukraine, its people, companies, etc. Allo is not working abroad so I doubt they need much this page. Maybe they are closed or bankcrupt right now. I don't see their shops anymore by the way. So I'm glad this page could be at least a part of Ukraine's economy history. But still they are huge and notable. I think that 50% of the companies in Ukraine will be destroyed or closed untill the war ends.
    • Rentberry Inc. is not my page, but I helped to make it notable by deleting advertisiment and showed its notability within the scope of American press. It's definitely notable with a long records of hate in US press. It's Ukrainian, and I like this fact that Ukrainian guys made a mess with residential rental industry in the USA. I had a small dispute with Praxidicae whether it's UPE or not, and Praxidicae agreed with me. The author or Rentberry Inc. made an edit in Biosphere company which is a wikubisines client regarding to from Meta wiki, however I don't check every user on Wikipedia. And I usually do adhoc - if the topic is notable or interesting for me, I will do it.
    • Viacheslav Briukhovetskyi - I saw it on Ukraine's portal in Wikipedia and noticed, it was lacking many sources and was a lame tranaslation from the Ukrainian. Viacheslav Briukhovetskyi is the foudner of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and a participant of 1st December initiative and many other initiatives. I didn't contribute significantly (please check the page's history). As far as I remember, I put some citation needed tag or added some citations. The person is notable, but it was weakly sourced and written.
  • Describe how you intend to edit such topics in the future.

I mostly edit on Russia-Ukraine war relations topics and put so many efforts in it that I sometimes want to created some person or company page with relation to the topic. I was preparing dozens of articles on companies, conflicts, etc, but didn't publish them because in the end you see that it will be deleted or drafted. So my every page is checked by me on whether it should be or not on Wikipedia. My last page was softdeleted: Russia is a terrorist state. That was because I chose the wrong name for it and made it too yellow. I made a lesson from this too and I plan to be even more attentive as I think it's not a good manner to post weak articles that are being deleted. If you see I'm biased toward Ukraine and Ukraine-war related topics, than I can give a promise to restrict from this topic at all. I hate war editting and when my page Russia is a terrorist state was redirected I kindly ask why and agreed with the users. I respect community standards and follow them. I did war editting once on Rashism page, but it was more like: Wikipedia:Be bold guideline, as there were some Russian propaganda users and the community was likely to avoid debates on this topic. But, since then I'm calmly editing and researching during my spare time which I have now more because of the war in Ukraine. I feel an obligation to myself to edit about Ukraine, Ukraine-Russia war and Ukrainian companies in such times as it's my contribution to the development of my country's image and popularity. Also, I feel sorry for creating Pushkin museum page and I'm happy it was deleted. I'm not a part of Armed forces of Ukraine so I do what I can. IgorTurzh (talk) 06:12, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Mellk: answering your comment “Help in what way” - I think my contributions illustrate what I mean, namely I create Ukraine-Russia war related articles and around this topic like Nancy Pelosi visit to Taiwan - which gathered so much attention that that page was three times renamed. I also contribute to Ukrainian companies and figures - as I feel some obligation to edit and expand this area in English Wikipedia. For instance, I cleaned up Fozzy Group a little bit and Ukraine TV media holding as the changes in crucial UA articles are not being updated so often. IgorTurzh (talk) 15:34, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

I see the disbalance in how people around the world are interested in Ukraine and the actual quality of many UA-related pages. So I try to add more notable and reliable information into En Wiki, especially from 24 February 2022. IgorTurzh (talk) 15:37, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Just forgot. I wanted to mention page: Rashism which was one step from being deleted. I put my many efforts and time to find reliable sources (I checked all the academia papers of modern Ukrainian historians and found pretty good researches on Ruscism/ Rashism). If I didn’t do that, no one would as there is lack of English active Wikipedians with native Ukrainian and with a desire to contribute to such topic. Ali Niknam moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Ali Niknam, is not suitable as written to remain published. There appears to be either a WP:UPE or WP:COI issue. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where it can remain while you address the UPE/COI concern. When you have made the necessary steps regarding COI/UPE, and the article meets WP:GNG and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Do not re-add to mainspace yourself. Onel5969 TT me 12:20, 30 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
