Quick clarification
Just need quick clarification so I know what I'm doing, in your GA review of The Simpsons you said the first paragraph of influences on television need more refs. Which specific part did you mean? Because it looks as though its all meant to be cited by ref 27, but "South Park later paid homage to The Simpsons with the episode "Simpsons Already Did It." (The Simpsons returned the favor with a scene at the beginning of "Bart of War".)" does probably need a ref or two. So which part did you mean exactly? Gran2 07:34, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- What you noted there. The "Simpsons Already Did It" and "Bart of War". That needs a reference or two. Lara♥Love 16:37, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi LL,
By your reply on G-guy's talk, I see you saw my message. I was gonna thank you last night but I'm not nocturnal like you, and toddled off to bed instead. :-) Thanks for your help. for the image TorrePoster.PNG, you said that no rationale was listed. it's explained in the copyright box. "to provide critical commentary on the film, event, etc. in question or of the poster itself, not solely for illustration" Mghabmw 00:31, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- That's not an adequate fair use rationale. See WP:FURG. Lara♥Love 04:50, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Wikidudemans RFA withdrawn
Hey, I've decided to regretfully withdrawal my RFA. Based on the numbers I don't believe it would have ever been successful. It seemed to have gotten off to a bad start and then went down hill from there. It's very unfortunate that it turned out the way it did however I do appreciate your participation. Thanks. Re: The Simpsons
I noticed you placed the GAReview tag on The Simpsons, and placed it on hold. It looks like you forgot to change that to the GAOnHold tag when you did so, so I changed it at WP:GAC.
Also, you might be interested that the article was just nominated for featured article status today, even before achieving GA status. Dr. Cash 02:05, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Whoops! Nevermind! I see you've added it to the WP:GA page. Though you did forget to remove it from the candidates' page. Dr. Cash 02:10, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, thanks for that! I seriously have to stop overlooking steps. They say that once you do something 10 times it becomes habit. Not true. Lara♥Love 04:46, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Your comments at WT:RFA
I am highly offended at your insinuation that new users who seek adminship are immature and power-hungry. I applied in October 2006 when I was a fairly new user, because I had never seen the process before and had no idea what the standards were. My RfA failed, and quite rightly so - I had fewer than 500 edits and did not have enough experience to be a decent admin. But it still hurt. I don't believe I was being "immature and power-hungry", or anything of the sort. And the comment I don't really care how they feel, is, with all due respect, demonstrative of a very bad attitude. Even leaving aside simple human decency, would it be a good thing if lots of new users were driven away after a premature RfA? No. We always need to recruit new contributors, and being helpful and considerate to them is the only way to do that. If I had been driven away after my first RfA, I would not have stayed on Wikipedia, would not have made thousands of edits and created several new articles, and would not have passed my second RfA (in April this year). Lots of other admins have gone through the same process. WaltonOne 17:26, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- I've responded with an apology on that page. Admittedly, I don't get it, but I did not mean to offend anyone and I do apologize to you for that. Lara♥Love 17:35, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- That's OK. I also apologise, for accusing you of having a bad attitude (I probably read too much into your post, and I appreciate you didn't mean to offend anyone). I'd explain further, but I have to log off now, and I'm on wikibreak from tomorrow until 14 August - I'll discuss this further at another time. WaltonOne 17:40, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

GA Categories
Hi Lara - quick question for you. Which cat do TV programmes (specifically game-shows) come under; Arts or Misc? Cheers! EyeSereneTALK 22:13, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- For WP:GA it would be under Social Sciences > Media > Television and Radio shows and series.
- For WP:GAC it would be under Art > Television.
- Soon, all categories will be consistent throughout the project. But for now, it's all jacked. Lara♥Love 03:26, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- It's for the GA pass tempate. Thanks! EyeSereneTALK 13:45, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Good job!
Way to go on leaving the Great Satan! They enslaved me for about two years as a cashier...ugh. I can barely even stand looking at the store, nevermind even entering one now. Jmlk17 05:26, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

- When that happens, just be thankful you don't have some crazy jerk of a CSM yelling at you about the most ridiculous of things (such as not speaking Spanish in my case). Jmlk17 05:36, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Mine always got upset about me refusing to leave Electronics (secure department) with a lone associate so I could run a front-end register because *gasp* they did not have enough cashiers and the lines were backed up dairy! Lara♥Love 05:38, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Haha oh man. I just wondered how I stuck it out for two years sometimes. I mean, within a week of quiting, I already had a job that paid me 3 bucks more an hour, was 10 times less stressful, and gave me a real discount (not just 10% off on non-discounted non-food items). Jmlk17 05:42, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- I stayed for four years. I was working two jobs for about a month and a half. I got the job I have now and worked there on my days of from Wal-Mart. Seven-days a week of working for weeks straight is bad times, although I did take one week of vacation from WM right in the middle and only worked four days that week at Golden Corral, so it was only 23 straight days. Then a couple more weeks before I went to five days a week at GC.
- I make more money and I eat for $3.50, but it's so much more difficult. I thought WM was stressful, but servers do EVERYTHING in the front of the house at GC and customers don't realize it, so they don't tip well. Tonight, for example, I was on at noon, worked until 8:30 p.m. before I was given a break to eat (I took a 5-minute breather about 7:15 to avoid having a melt-down... that was the extent of my breaks, which is typical). I got stiffed no less than 15 times today, which is between 1/2 and 1/3 of all my tables. It's non-stop and very difficult. Physically and emotionally. Some customers you just want to cuss out and smack around, but you have to grit your teeth, bite your tongue and smile. I really want to go back to school and get a real job! Your outsider's view on the subject matter is helpful, and I think most of the regular editors to the article will respect your opinion on things. Thank you for your review of this article. While I believe the submission was premature, your comments will be helpful. The retitling of the references is in many cases not due to the actions of the editors, but of the sources themselves, as I mentioned in my reply to your comments. While we can and have properly cited the title of an article which was correct when cited, it is hard to keep up with changes to that title by the publisher, which uses the same .url for successive versions of the piece. And that treatment by the publisher is not apparent except to those of us who go back and check references later. Kablammo 21:26, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Task forces
Woo boy, you sure like them don't you :) As far as I see, WP:GAPQ is designed to streamline the quality of all GAs, to ensure the standards stay balanced? If yes, I'm so in - that's something I rank very highly. Giggy Talk 07:01, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- I am passionate about this project and want people to respect it more than they currently do. Understandably, the project is of questionable quality right now. But I think we can change all that. FA is, of course, top quality, but I want editors to look at GA as good quality, as intended, rather than a joke or a waste. It can be done. And I think we have enough people willing to make it happen. Maybe then we can get the GA symbol on the GA article pages, which is not the ultimate goal, however, but I think it might be the indication that we've achieved the ultimate goal. Lara♥Love 07:04, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
This looks like a good merge to me. Btw, can you watchlist Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/GA nominees task force/GAC backlog elimination drive if you haven't done so? The reason is that I will be on a trans-pacific flight on the day the drive ends. I will be out of contact and can't overlook the end of this drive. Your job is really simple, just keep an eye on the page and answer issues raised in the process. If you got some free time, feel free to check if the articles approved in this drive met the GA criteria. Some people are not familiar with the GA process and may have promoted some aritlces (i.e. Union Pacific Railroad) even when it doesnt qualify according to GA standards.
To improve efficency during the check, place a Done when you read the article and felt that it met the standard. Place Question: if there're doubts about the review and/or the article. If it's obvious that it fails, place Not done.
P.S. I'll add my name to WP:WPGA

Thank you for reporting user SixString1965, likely to be May Pang in disguise! I appreciate your efforts to keep her from revising history. Layla12275 05:18, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Lara♥Love 05:20, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Just so you all know, I am not May Pang (nor do I wish to be) I am removing wrongful information and disgusting chatter about May that is LIBELOUS. If you don't believe me, I would be more than welcome to speak through conventional email or by telephone about this situation and legal process that it can take (including the book picture posted without permission).24.168.81.111 06:18, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- But you are edit warring - discuss the changes you want on Talk, don't just repeatedly revert. And if you (24.168 etc) are SixString1965 as the above comment suggests, you should not be editing during your block. Tvoz |talk 06:22, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Read Fair use. And you are not only removing content you believe to be libelous, you are altering unsourced information, wording it as fact. Although you may know it to be true, without sources it is considered original research. Rather than mass deleting content and/or blanking pages, it is more appropriate to talk constructively about such issues on the talk page, without also mass deleting content from that page. Regards, Lara♥Love 06:23, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- I'd also add that according to the First Amendment (apologies to anyone in this conversation who is not American; I don't mean to come off as ethnocentric--but since Pang is American I am assuming she is referring to American law), any opinion in print is not libel. Libel is false information that is presented as fact. Most of what you refer to as "disgusting chatter" is merely opinion, and is perfectly allowable, whether you agree with those opinions or not. And repeated thanks to LaraLove for the tremendous help. Layla12275 06:58, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, libel is defined on Wikipedia as a "harmful statement in a fixed medium, especially writing but also a picture, sign, or electronic broadcast". However, the information s/he continually attempts to remove is sourced. Therefore, if there was an issue of libel, it would be to the source, not Wikipedia for quoting it. Lara♥Love 13:35, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well said; thanks, Lara. Layla12275 23:21, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

GAC backlog elimination drive
The Good Article Medal of Merit | ||
Thank you for your participation in the GAC backlog elimination drive! Epbr123 21:30, 13 August 2007 (UTC) |
Thanks for your cleanup efforts on Richard Hawes. At the time I wrote most of that article, I wasn't aware of the policy you cite, and when I became aware of it, I forgot to go back and change it there. The editor who promoted the article to GA suggested that I should make an FA run with it. What's your opinion? Does it have a chance of becoming FA? I'm really hoping to include it as a supporting article to a featured topic on the Confederate government of Kentucky (current FA nominee) and George W. Johnson (Civil War) (current GA.) Acdixon 11:53, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not totally sure. I didn't read the article, I only scanned it as part of a quality check from the backlog elimination drive. I've got somewhere around 450 articles to check, so I don't completely read them. Additionally, I work with GAs and rarely venture over to reviewing FAs, so I'm not entirely sure what to look for. However, for all the things I've checked and assuming the prose is brilliant, it should do fine. The brilliant prose is important. Make sure you've got that. Lara♥Love 13:27, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
I know you usually hang around in GA taskforces and not portals. - Honestly, I didn't even know what a portal was until last night. I have no idea what the criteria are for that. User:Jayron32 works with FAs. I stick to GA with few exceptions. Lara♥Love 14:34, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Elvis Presley clean up - Notes
Thanks for clean up of retrieval dates. Just wondered: did you notice any other problems, inconsistencies with the notes? May be I could address these - the article is up for a Featured Article nomination soon. Rikstar 08:03, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, no. No. That article isn't even up to GA standards right now. If I wasn't an Elvis fan, I would have delisted it already. There are so many issues, but I plan to fix all of them today, but do not go to FA right now. I'm sorry, but you did not get a quality review for GA. Either that, or it's drastically changed since it was listed.
- Either way. It's my project for today. It should be beyond GA when I'm done with it. The things I plan to correct, as I posted here, are:
Dates need to be linked for user preferences. The placement of punctuation in relation to closing quotations needs to be corrected per WP:PUNC. Placement of inline citations needs to be corrected. Article needs additional wikification. Prose and use of punctuation needs to be corrected in places.Use of dashes needs to be corrected per WP:DASH.Fair use rationales for copyrighted images need to be corrected per WP:FURG. Image of stamp (I have that stamp!... getting side-tracked)and boxed quote need to be moved to avoid sandwiching text between images per WP:MOS.Redlink ISBNs need to be corrected. References need to be correctly formatted. Lara♥Love 13:53, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- Wow... It's your project for today, and however long you need, to whip the thing into shape. Much appreciate your efforts. I didn't have anything to do with the whole GA thing 'cause it's all a bit beyond me (as is FA nomination); I just put "the meat on the bones", so to speak, after drastic editing (with others) of the sorry version that got put up for FA last year. I'll peruse your edits carefully, with a view to learnin' from ya. Once again, thank you so much! (I've got that stamp, too...) Rikstar 18:11, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I've been doing GA for some time now. That project is my passion, so it's no trouble at all. Especially for an article about Elvis. I checked your userpage and found it interesting that you've participated in the parapsychology article. Ever since I did the copy-edit for that article, I keep "bumping" into people, so to speak, involved with it. Lara♥Love 20:42, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- Another Wow...Thanks Laralove for all the observations thus far and ahead of time for help with the project. If there is anything I can do to help - let me know. --Northmeister 19:47, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
