FYI adding more then one reflist sort of tag makes the system crazy. Nice to see another eagle and vigil member around. You may want to join project scouting. cheers --Guerillero | My Talk 04:34, 6 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I added it b/c the article said there wasn't one and was displaying an error. Perhaps there were already multiples which were causing the error message. Live and learn. Thanks for fixing it.

The previous edit by an IP removed content including the close of a comment tag. This caused the remaining text to be commented out including the reflist. The content on the Ordeal is publicly available on the BSA site; see the FAQ on the article talk page and on the article page when you edit. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 11:21, 6 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

List of Eagle Scouts (Boy Scouts of America)

edit

The BSA has five distinguished service awards: Silver Beaver, Silver Antelope, Silver Buffalo, Silver World and DESA.[1] Regardless, this is out of scope for the Eagle Scout list. The NOESA needs to be added to the Eagle Scout, DESA and NESA articles, but is out of scope for the Eagle list. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 12:01, 6 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the note Ed. The NOESA info had ought to be added to the other articles, as well. None the less, it is not out of scope for the Eagle list because it, like the DESA, is a selective award given to notable Eagle Scouts. Many NOESA recipients have the notoriety to be listed in the Eagle List. An additional column should be added to mark NOESA recipients in the next year as we do DESA recipients now. We can obtain a master NOESA list as we do with DESA recipients. At present there are 91 NOESA recipients nationwide including US Senator Michael S. Lee, for example. The NOESA and DESA are both Natinal Eagle Scout Association awards that include a device to be worn by recipients on their Eagle Scout square knot. This is the NOESA device image. [1]

As for Distinguished Service Awards (DSA), I should probably be more explicit. The Silver World, Antelope, and Beaver awards are DSAs, but different than the three "national" level DSAs (Buffalo, OA DSA, and DESA). The Silver World is an "international" level award that cannot be awarded to BSA Scouters. The Silver Antelope is a "regional" level award. The Silver Beaver is a "council" level award. InternationalScouter (talk) 21:33, 6 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

I made revisions to what I had added previously to clarify the DSA comment. I wonder if the same table column currently on this page could be used to display either the DESA or NOESA device? InternationalScouter (talk) 01:20, 7 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

The BSA classes them as distinguished service awards with no distinction as to level, so that is what we have to go with. I can create a silver version of the DESA emblem we use in the article. We can't use the emblem itself, as it would violate the non-free use criteria. Is there a NOESA list?
See {{cite web}} on when to use |work=. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 02:34, 7 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Initially NESA was going to use a silver version of the DESA eagle emblem for the NOESA, but someone on the committee was concerned about it causing confusion because in Scouts (and the military) silver is higher than gold (eg. Bronze, Gold, then Silver Eagle Palms). This is why they developed a new logo. None the less, changing the color of the current emblem is a quick & easy solution that I think will work well for our purposes. Could you make it bronze (or brown) rather than silver? Then again, I'm ok with silver too. Whatever you think is best. I'll get the NOESA list. 71.219.158.52 (talk) 04:55, 7 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

The master list of NOESA Recipients is online at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Al0v5wbK2SqxdEhENmJ3TWUtY2VMdkhZU3FUUkFYenc&hl=en_US Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.219.158.52 (talk) 04:36, 8 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

The image you provided is clearly silver, so we need to go with that. Where did the list come from? ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 08:42, 8 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

The list is from NESA. InternationalScouter (talk) 00:39, 15 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Let's do go with the silver version of the DESA image already in use. When could you have this image ready? There will be some NOESA recipients who are later recognized with the DESA. When this occurs, could we display both (gold & silver) logos in the same column? NESA plans to publish an updated annual master list of NOESA recipients at the end of each calendar year. Thanks again for your help with this. InternationalScouter (talk) 06:14, 9 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I've made a silver image that looks similar to the NOESA, but is mine. I'll try to upload it and we can use it. Thanks. It is also online at: https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B10v5wbK2SqxYjM3ODYzZTgtN2E5YS00YjNlLWI1ZTctY2FlMTI0YzI2NmVh&hl=en_US InternationalScouter (talk) 17:09, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
