Welcome

Hello, Into The Fray, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Hensim

Just to let you know, I removed the speedy delete from Hensim to give the editor a chance to get it into shape. The proper db criteria would have been db-spam, not db-nonsense, in any case. If he doesn't get it together, it can always be nominated for deletion another way. Acroterion (talk) 02:05, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

On second review of the article I tagged, I'd agree. Thanks for the feedback. I've seen some of my tags removed and have disagreed with it, but not had the benefit of someone that would actually leave a comment explaining why they disagreed with me. In any event, thanks! Sadly, I don't have enough mainspace edits yet. I'm getting there, but they say they have a strict requirement of 250 mainspace (I believe) edits before I can get it. I'm using Vandal Fighter and TW for now. Thanks for the kind words. Douglasmtaylor 02:27, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Doreen Bird Page

I received your message that I removed contributions from Wikipedia. If you review this properly from the original 1 or 2 paragraph article that was listed for Doreen Bird, you will notice that I have not actualy removed anything, rather I have taken what was there and have re-written and enlarged upon it massively.

As a former student and friend of the person to whom this article relates, I have a great deal of personal knowledge about Doreen Bird and whilst I will conceed that I need assistance in linking thigs through and providing reference sources, I am in a position to provide a great deal of detailed and accurate information.

Drew McWeeny

That was in no way vandalism. The article has been and now once again is written using qualifying and biased language, is in no way written in encylopdic form, and includes superfluous information and a trivia section that do not belong on wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.101.81.250 (talkcontribs)

Doreen Bird Article

Thanks for responsponding to my questions.

Unfortunately my contribution to the article has actualy been totally removed, despite all my work. I was hoping that some other wikipedia users like yourself would be able to advise me on how to adjust and reference the content, but clearly the addition of new and factual information does not seem to be acceptable!!!

I was very disgusted to find it removed as I have a great deal of personal knowledge as a long standing friend of Doreen Bird and in attemting to update this poor article, I was hoping that I might be providing a reference point for the hundreds of future students at her college that will no longer have the pleasure of knowing her.

Thanks for your advice, will maybe one day try and edit the article again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crazy-dancing (talkcontribs)

Doreen Bird (Again)

Thanks for your commments and I appreciate your assistance and it is my intention to make sure that the administrator that removed all my edits is fully aware that they have actually replaced my edits with incorrect information that is also not correctly referenced.

With regards to referencing, how can I be expected to reference information that is my personal knowledge as an ex student of Doreen Bird and a teacher at the said college? A great deal of my information is not written down and this is why I am adding it here, so that it is not forgotten.

For example, the original article that exists from before I made edits to it refers to the college opening date as 1949, which is wrong. The school opened in 1945 and the full time training college in 1951, with the colleges 60th anniversary gala, which I was involved in producing, being staged at the Orchard Theatre in Dartford in June 2005!!!

Not meaning to sound like I'm attacking you, which is not whjat I am doing, it is vital that the administrator who has removed my edits, realises that I am in fact right and am quite literally THE REFERENCE, me, myself. Will remember thought to follow ur recommendations in future, but dont know how to do the signature thing!

Peaaceful evening eh? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crazy-dancing (talkcontribs)

Doreen Bird

Thanks again, will re-instate my last edit with at least once major reference that is suitable. I am hoping that IF it stays this time, that you will have a look over it and drop me a line to give me a push in the right direction, but in the meantime will work on it and use your advice to try and tweak it myself.

btw, it was the guy with the clown picture that rolled back all my edits, am not bitter knowing that I can restore it, but hope he gives me a chnce to work on it this time and realise that I am still learning. Crazy-dancing 22:54, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

User Page Vandalism

Recently you made a rollback on User_talk:Jonjonbt the [diff is here]. I'm not sure what vandalism there was it, just seemed like a slightly strange but constructive question. What was your reasoning in making the change? Mike33 01:50, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Wow. Itchy trigger finger. I remember making the revert, but I remember seeing that someone had changed someone else's signature. I could swear I did. Regardless, I rolled back my own revert. Douglasmtaylor 01:58, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Lol ok thanks for the explaination. Yep, we might have lightening fingers, but it doesn't stop us cursing, when we realise we shouldn't have done it! (My error log is a mile long most days!!) kind regards, Mike33 03:10, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Thank You

Regarding your work on the Doreen Bird article, thanks for your superb work. You've really made it work in a way that I could have struggled over for ages and still not achieved.

I am currently speaking to other friends and and acquaintances of Miss Bird to find out if there is any reference material available relating directly to her early life etc. as you suggest, as my own knowledge is very sketchy prior to the 'college years'. Your other comments and suggestions have been noted and will have a look to see if there's anything specific that can be done to improve the article further.

By the way, just so you know, the purpose of the title Miss is used in this case to reference towards her being a dance teacher. It's a simple etiquette that regarless of status, all female dance teachers are traditionally referred to as Miss, something which I just do without thinking. She will always be Miss Bird to everyone who knew her.

Is great that you had a look for some background on Bird College and following your previous suggestion, I have as you might have noticed, added a new article on the subject. This will now be my primary concern to get right.

Again, thank you so much, is good to know that people out there are willing to give up their own time to help, even though it's not your subject of choice. I look forward to being able to refer to you for help in the future if you are happy to do that.

And finally, at least I've learnt SOMETHING, my signature Crazy-dancing 03:18, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm happy to help. I was dismayed to see that you were getting discouraged and I'm enamored by the tribute that you want to pay to your mentor. Regarding the 'miss' question, that was what I assumed. But, remember, writing from a 'familiar' voice really isn't what to do here. In any event, good luck on your research. Given the amount of information there is about the school. . .is there maybe a library at the school? I'm sure Bird would have been interviewed in trade publications, or something, in her lifetime. Douglasmtaylor 03:28, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the repair

I was at a conference and didn't know it had happened. I'm particular amused to be called a papist-shooting sectarian, since while I am in fact a Protestant of Irish ancestry, I support a free, united, 32-county Ireland, with no English presence save as friendly neighbors and visitors (like many Protestants have sought since the days of Wolfe Tone). --Orange Mike 21:29, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

My pleasure! There's a typo on your user page as well that I was tempted to fix. Look for "2004)". Douglasmtaylor 15:08, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. (You would have been welcome to fix it yourself.) --Orange Mike 19:16, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Doreen Bird

Thanks for your kind comment, was much appreciated and again, thanks for giving me a headstart in the first place. Have raided the college library for some more reference material and come up with a few useful facts and figures and also had some great articles from the local newspaper for that area. Once you had given me some bare-bones I got the hang of how the article should look and sound, but know I've a lot to learn. Am still working on the Bird College article, so your comments and help would be much welcome. Hope to hear from you again soon! Crazy-dancing 01:07, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

And by the way, just an addition to the above, have added an external link to the Doreen Bird page, which is a direct source for the information relating to Doreens career with the ISTD. I think this means that the 'needs citation' tags can be removed, but don't know how to mark it up properly and refer people to that link in the text. Can you have a look and tweak if possible. Thanks! Crazy-dancing 01:25, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Oh, AND ANOTHER THING. I'm guessing your American, from that place where they speak 'funny English' ;D Only say that cause I noticed in the history of Doreen Bird that you have corrected typos. Not to beef or say that Americans are wrong, but I was writing the article in standard BBritish English and you've changed some of the words to funny American Spellings. I know I did make a few dodgy typos without realising though! Can I revert these odd bits back to British spellings as only British people are likely to take an interest. Thanks my friend Crazy-dancing 02:39, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry about it, you just start to ignore that after a while. When two Twinkle users both start to revert a page at the same time, the script won't recognize that there's a second revert taking place. It results in double messages on the talk page. I'll start on your userpage today. You've seen my userpage obviously, but this is one I made for someone else. User:Tewfik. I'll just start you off with a color scheme. The boxes worked well for him because of the amount of stuff of different sizes he wanted to display, though I don't think I'll use them here. I'll probably end up doing yours in blue and green; as I don't see many pages like that. Cheers, †Ðanieltiger45† Talk to meas 14:37, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Hey, your Userpage is basically finished. If you find a banner you like for your Licensing, I'll plug that in for you later today. Hello Mr. Adraktas. I noticed your edits to Georgios Michael. Please note that this is a an article, not a user's talk page. The article main space is not the place to communicate with other editors. Into The Fray T/C 09:12, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. I thought I placed my note in his Talk page. Sorry! Constantine Adraktas 10:00, 5 August 2007 (UTC) Glad to see you have edited over 2000 articles. Is there a site in WIKIPEDIA that gives the score of the articles edited by its editors ? Constantine Adraktas 15:18, 5 August 2007 (UTC) Constantine Adraktas 15:20, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

There is no 'scoring' system that I'm aware of, unless you mean a ranking by edit count. As in, who has the most edits? That I don't know the answer to. Certainly, 2,500 is not a large number of edits by any estimation. DerHexer, just for example, has over 25,000 [1] edits to the English Wikipedia and (holy cow) almost 35,000 to the German Wikipedia [2]. Into The Fray T/C 15:31, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! BtW, it's Yksin not Yskin (k before rather than after s), & I'm female. ;) --Yksin 17:49, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

No problem, it's happened before. It was heavily ironic in context, though, because Custerwest has repeatedly called me "Yskin" despite me telling him it's "Yksin" at least two or three times, & he also initially missed my gender. --Yksin 18:00, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for the barnstar! A great way to start the day. --Yksin 16:20, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Unconstructive edits

This is a university IP address. There are lots of people using it. Never changed "Case Closed". --149.68.79.100 21:37, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

WP:CVU status

The Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit project is under consideration to be moved to {{inactive}} and/or {{historical}} status. Another proposal is to delete or redirect the project. You have been identified as a project member and your input as to this matter would be welcomed at WT:CVU#Inactive.3F and at the deletion debate. Thank you!
