Friction over Glacier

edit

Hi J3ff. Have you seen this yet? It appears that some people are rather miffed about our methods at SpTotW, and User:Stan Shebs essentially said that he's going to remove the Spanish text "in a couple of days." I'll admit that our methodology is a bit intrusive and I would certainly like to help brainstorm an alternative method, but it's certainly not fair for these fellows to just arbitrarily get in the way of our effort. Glacier is probably the most high-traffic article we've worked on yet, and I can certainly understand their concern, but it would probably be best is you used your authority to mediate something here. Thanks! Fernando Rizo T/C 15:52, 25 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Pe̍h-oē-jī

edit

I notice that you tagged the article “notenglish”, which gives people only 2 weeks to finish the translation. A couple of comments:

  • 2 weeks is not going to be enough time to translate the rest of the article
  • The article is already useful even though half of it is still untranslated. It seems very unreasonable to delete the article after 2 weeks only because people cannot finish translating it.

Can you clarify your intentions on Talk:Pe̍h-oē-jī? Thanks.—Gniw (Wing) 00:22, 6 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

The Tv-logo template is cool, but it doesn't make use of the alphabetization info I had been supplying for the "Category:Television logos|how-to-alphabetize" tags I've been putting on the image pages. So logos get sorted according to how the image file happened to be named, which is often fairly random. Any way to change the template to accept an optional alphabetization parameter? Dilbert comic

edit

Fair use images of this sort need to be explicitly discussed in the text if they are going to be used in this way. See WP:FU. I removed it because it seems largely irrelevant to the place it was put, and the discussion of whether or not Indians were a model minority was an almost insubstantial part of the article. If someone were to write up a section on Indians as model minorities, on how this is reflected sometimes in the U.S. with certain stereotypes, and mention that the character in Dilbert is an example of this, then I could imagine it being in the article without question. --Fastfission 19:51, 11 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

SPATRA: merging completed article

edit

You asked on my user talk page:

The article Wikipedia:Spanish Translation of the Week/Vasco Núñez de Balboa has been translated, and needs to be merged into Vasco Núñez de Balboa. Is it possible for you to merge the page histories, so the translator's contributions are preserved? — J3ff 22:07, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

So you want to merge the histories? That can be done pretty easily, and it looks like no non-trivial work has happened on Vasco Núñez de Balboa while the translation was in progress. To do this:

There is really nothing I can do until the article is ready to be moved. - Jmabel | Talk 22:55, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I understand you're busy and may not have gotten a chance to read the message I left on your talk page a few days ago. Unspecified source for Image:A2M DVD cover.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:A2M DVD cover.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks for uploading Image:Trish Thuy Trang 001.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. Thanks for uploading Image:Romeo must die dvd.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Image source problem with Image:99-ranch-supermarket-logo0001.gif

edit

Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:99-ranch-supermarket-logo0001.gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Speedy deletion of Aiko Tanaka

This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. This has been done under section I3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [1], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:UC Merced Front.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Polly (Parrot) 23:43, 1 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Little context in Markab (Babylon 5)

edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Markab (Babylon 5), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Markab (Babylon 5) is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Markab (Babylon 5), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Proposed deletion of Aiko Tanaka

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Aiko Tanaka, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. 69.203.74.32 (talk) 18:09, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Sfsu seal0001.gif)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Sfsu seal0001.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:28, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
