This is my talk page, I guess. Welcome!
Welcome!
editWelcome to Wikipedia, JGambolputty! Thank you for your contributions. I am Nardog and I have been editing Wikipedia for some time, so if you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. You can also check out Wikipedia:Questions or type {{help me}}
at the bottom of this page. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- Introduction
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- How to write a great article
- Discover what's going on in the Wikimedia community
Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); that will automatically produce your username and the date. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Nardog (talk) 06:19, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Nardog: Thank you, Nardog! I know I'm meant to use the tildes, but I keep forgetting to do so (which I invariably realize the moment after hitting "publish"). As you can probably tell, I'm not very used to the look and syntax of the editor interface; hopefully I'll get a little smoother as time goes by. Cheers! JGambolputty (talk) 06:38, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
- No problem, everybody has to learn the ropes at first. To tell you the truth, the note about signing was already included in the template and I didn't mean to warn you about it or anything—I just wanted to greet you—but I appreciate your message.
- This is also tangential and trivial, but when notifying someone, you have to include the mention (as you did with {{re}}; some people prefer {{ping}} which yields the same result) and your sign in one edit at the same time, or the person won't get the notification. This is something even very experienced users don't realize (oftentimes they remember to sign but forget to ping and add the ping later, without realizing the other person won't get notified), so consider yourself lucky!
