editWelcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article John Holmes (pornographic actor), please cite a reliable source for your addition. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for how to cite sources, and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Also, please note that links to external websites should not be included in the main text of an article. They may be appropriate for the External Links section, but please review WP:ELNO. Thank you. -- Doniago (talk) 17:20, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
Please do not add or change content without verifying it by citing reliable sources, as you did to John Holmes (pornographic actor). Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. -- Doniago (talk) 14:32, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Hello Doniago,
Okay, I think I've managed to restore the footnote section. Jadepussycat (talk) 16:47, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
I'm afraid I've messed up the footnotes while trying to add a reference. Would you or someone please make the corrections? I won't be able to spend time on this any longer at the moment. Jadepussycat (talk) 16:44, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
I am relatively new to wikipedia and still learning my way around. I do plan to add citations and/or references for my changes to the "John Holmes pornographic actor" page but need to understand precisely how that is done. With the 2008 publication of the first and definitive biography on Holmes there is a need to correct and add to the pre-existing information. Any additional (or easy tricks) you could provide regarding adding citations and references, I would greatly appreciate - apart from the guidelines. :) Thank you Jadepussycat (talk) 16:09, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Jade,
- Welcome to Wikipededia!
- I think the footnotes are okay at this point, but if you see any problems please let me know. Information on how to cite sources can be found at WP:CITINGSOURCES, but there's also WP:CITETOOL which includes some nifty tools where you can plug in a URL (and possibly some information about it) and it will spit out the information you need to plug in. Generally you shouldn't add information with the intention to source it later, as that violates WP:BURDEN, and other editors won't have any way of knowing that you intend to provide sources. You could use Template:Under construction if you're planning to do a long-term revision, but I'd generally recommend against this.
- Please let me know if you have additional questions, and thanks for coming to me with your concerns and phrasing them so civilly! Doniago (talk) 16:52, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
