I saw your announcement on the Anglo-Saxon Wikipedia. I mentioned it to a friend who's interested in such things, and she has posted a link to the new page on an Anglo-Saxon mailing list. You'll probably see some new faces showing up soon. They won't be wiki-veterans but they should be enthusiastic. Isomorphic 14:41, 15 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Adminship

edit

Hi James. You need to link the admin pages to m:requests for permissions before I can sysop you on those wikis. Please make the request on that page after following the how to request status steps. Thanks. Angela. 18:20, Jan 10, 2005 (UTC)

Yes, and also link to those from Meta, in the local request pages section. Angela. 21:01, Jan 10, 2005 (UTC)
Ok, you are now an admin on the Wiktionary and Wikiquote, but I can not make you a sysop on a wiki that doesn't exist, so you're not one at Wikibooks yet. Are you sure it is sensible to create three new projects at once in this language? Angela. 21:52, Jan 10, 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I have the same problem when trying to make an account there. I've reported it at MediaZilla:1313. Angela. 21:44, Jan 11, 2005 (UTC)

This is fixed now. Angela.

Hi there, i'm working on ascertaining the copyrights of images (over at untagged images) and I was wondering about the image you uploaded of the yellow stars of David (Image:HPIM0843.JPG). I'm guessing you photographed and uploaded, but just in case, i'm checking :-). If I haven't heard from you for a bit i'll go ahead and tag with a GFDL-Presumed. Thanks, Datepalm17 10:29, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)

While waiting for the creation of the Old Norse Wikipedia, I would like as much people as possible to come on this page to dicuss the "neologisms" we should use on it. Please take a look. Yours sincerly. 82.235.122.163 09:36, 22 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Image:HPIM0843.JPG

edit

The image and its listing are deleted so I cannot be for sure, but 99% of the images I'm putting up for deletion are orphans and have no source. You are not tagging your images (See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. All images must be tagged. If you do not do it then someone like me will and if it gets tagged "no source" then it may be deleted eventually. Image:Linda-purl-005.jpg that you just uploaded is an example. There is no tag. You also got the image from a third party source which does not really specify the copyright status of the image. It would be better if you went to the official web site like www.lindapurl.net and then tagged the image as {{promophoto}} with the website listed.

Also, by policy, (See Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not), Wikipedia is not a repository of images and images must be linked to an article. Even if you linked your image when you uploaded it, someone else, may have replaced it leaving it orphaned. This is the nature of Wikipedia.

Of course, images must be good images and encyclopedic in nature. Hope this helps --Nv8200p 13:48, 3 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Old English macron or accent vote

edit

Sorry, I can't vote there; I've made no edits to the Old English wiki, so I'm not eligible. Equally, whilst I prefer macrons (for the reasons listed), I can't honestly say I feel strongly enough about it to vote on the matter. Sorry, but thanks for letting me know about it. — OwenBlacker 16:36, 24 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Image Tagging Image:Louver.JPG

edit

This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Louver.JPG. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. cohesiontalk 04:09, 23 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Matl2.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. BRossow 03:53, 18 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Pic matlock.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Pic matlock.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Quentin X 17:24, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I would like you to participate in a discussion regarding the Brazil article, and how some users have demonstrated to have some racist attitudes, we need to have a more objective perspective besides that of white-rich Brazilians that have been trying to portrait it as a Scandinavian country.

Here is the link, please put your comment, help us stop racism, thank you. Supaman89 —Preceding signed but undated comment was added at 23:52, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Matl2.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Matl2.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:35, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:KeneHolliday.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:KeneHolliday.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Your question on Gau Bayreuth and other talk pages

edit

I had a quick search through some websites I used when I wrote the article. Its hard to come by information but you may be able to put some puzzle pieces together. This website is the most useful to you, I reckon. It breaks the Gaue down into Kreise and in those it tells you the population. For example:

  • Kreis Kaplitz came from Czechoslovakia to Oberdonau in 1938, see here
  • same goes for Kreis Znaim that went to Niederdonau, see here
  • and Prachatitz to Ostmark, see here

Its going to be a tough search but you may find what you want. In any case, have fun, EA210269 (talk) 14:06, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

A few more:

  • Kreis Krummau an der Moldau, to Oberdonau, see here
  • Kreis Neubistritz, to Niederdonau, see here
  • Kreis Nikolsburg, to Niederdonau, see here
  • Kreis Waidhofen, really tricky, only got a few villages, see here

This should be most of it but no garanties! EA210269 (talk) 14:14, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:Wappen Westpreußen.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

File permission problem with File:German Empire 1871.PNG

edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:German Empire 1871.PNG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Gruznov (talk) 07:15, 12 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs

edit

Hello JamesR1701E! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 171 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Proposed deletion of Cliff Lewis

edit

The article Cliff Lewis has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails Wikipedia's notability guidelines for fictional characters.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Neelix (talk) 21:41, 6 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for File:TransformersGeneration21.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:TransformersGeneration21.jpg. If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. edit

Thanks for uploading File:Wappen Waldeck (am Edersee).svg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
