Deletion pending for File:MichaelWeisman.jpg

edit

Hello, Jas10010. Some time ago, a file you uploaded — File:MichaelWeisman.jpg — was tagged with {{OTRS pending}}, indicating that you (or perhaps the copyright holder if you did not create this image) submitted a statement of permission to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. Though there is often a backlog processing messages received at this address, we should have received your message by now.

  • If you have not submitted (or forwarded) a statement of permission, please send it immediately to permissions-en@wikimedia.org and let us know at the OTRS noticeboard that you have done so.
  • If you have already sent this message, it is possible that there was a problem receiving it. Please re-send it to permissions-en@wikimedia.org and let us know at the OTRS noticeboard that you have done so.

If we don't hear from you within one week, the file will be deleted. If we can help you, please feel free to ask at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 14:49, 7 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Headshot of Michael Weisman.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Headshot of Michael Weisman.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File permission problem with File:MWeisman&CWeisman.jpeg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:MWeisman&CWeisman.jpeg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 30 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Deletion pending for File:MichaelWeismanprofilephoto.jpg

Hello, Jas10010. Some time ago, a file you uploaded — File:MichaelWeismanprofilephoto.jpg — was tagged with {{OTRS received}}, indicating that a statement of permission had been received by permissions-en wikimedia.org, but that this email was insufficient in some way

This could be due to any of several issues:

  1. The OTRS agent might have asked for further information to validate the ticket, but no follow-up reply was received (this is the most common reason).
  2. The license submitted might not have provided an acceptable free content license. (Statements of permission that allow only usage on Wikipedia or only non-commercial usage are NOT sufficient.)
  3. The person who submitted the statement of permission might not be the copyright holder or might not have been able to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the OTRS agent that they own the copyright.

Due to privacy reasons, we cannot comment on Wikipedia with the exact reason that the ticket could not be processed.

  • If YOU submitted the ticket to the permissions address, please search your email for a reply with the ticket ID - a reply was sent some time ago requesting more information or further actions needed to confirm permission. Please reply to that message.
  • If the copyright holder (not you) submitted the ticket, then that person received a response (which may have been some time ago). Please ask them to follow up.

If another message is sent to permissions-en@wikimedia.org and let us know at the OTRS noticeboard that you have done so.

  • If you have already sent this message, it is possible that there was a problem receiving it. Please re-send it to permissions-en wikimedia.org that resolves the problem, please let us know at the OTRS noticeboard that you have done so.

If we don't hear from you within one week, the file will be deleted. If we can help you, please feel free to ask at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. B (talk) 12:47, 30 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Jas10010. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Yunshui  23:44, 4 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Blocked

edit

You have continued to edit the Michael Weisman article without disclosing your paid conflict of interest. Your account has therefore been blocked from editing Wikipedia. Yunshui  11:49, 7 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating Wikipedia's Terms of Use by failing to disclose a paid relationship with the subject of an article.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Yunshui  11:49, 7 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I do not have a paid conflict of interest. I am not or have never been paid for doing any form of work on Wikipedia or ever been paid by Michael Weisman. I spent a great deal of time researching for this project and took greath lengths to research Wiki guidelines and provide factual and acceptable sources for every piece of information that was included. In addition I read the notices and changes made by Yunshui previously and took heart as a new member of Wikipedia. I was under the impression the notice was left because the majority of changes he made applied to quotes of praise and additional color that Yunshi claimed were against Wiki guidelines. I did not add in any content that was removed. The only changes I made since his edits were moving a code link to a photo that was previously posted but deleted due to it still awaiting the photographer sending permission, and changing the words "specialising" to "specializing" and "programmes" to "programs"Jas10010 (talk) 14:23, 7 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficiently convincing for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. O Still Small Voice of Clam 07:27, 3 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

You indicate that you don't have a paid conflict of interest. Conflicts of interest don't have to involve money. Exactly what is the nature of your relationship with Michael Weisman? --Yamla (talk) 00:20, 8 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Dear Yamla,

Thank you for the reply.

I addressed the “paid conflict of interest” issue, because that was what Yunhui referenced twice as the specific reason for being blocked from editing. To answer your question, Michael Weisman is not a family member, nor someone with whom I socialize. I have never been an employee of his, nor has he been an employee of mine, although we were both employed by the same parent company for 5 months in 2015. I became of an admirer of his during that time when I learned of his history and accomplishments. I created the page of my own volition and my only communication with him regarding the page was to reach out to him for use of photographs. I initially believed he was the person from whom I needed to seek permission and I have since been informed that that is not the case. I have tried since then to obtain the proper permissions from the copyright holders. I sincerely apologize for any confusion the permissions process may have caused and while I did not believe my relationship would be considered a conflict of interest, I apologize if my assumption was wrong. I also regret that I did not understand the intent of Yunhui’s notice as I believed its focus was on what type of editorial content is allowed on a page. If I knew making the two grammatical changes and removing a deleted photo link would have led to being blocked, I surely would not have done so. I am eager to resolve this and I look forward to doing so in a manner that meets Wikipedia’s standards and also eliminates doubt that I am operating with any conflicts of interest. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jas10010 (talkcontribs)

@Yunshui: What are your thoughts? --Yamla (talk) 10:51, 8 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Yamla: The block is specifically for a violation of WP:PAID - content in OTRS emails led me to believe that this user was directly employed by the article subject. If that is not the case then any admin is welcome to unblock. We don't block for COI per se, although before I cleaned it up the article on Michael Weisman was verging on the G11-able; consequently I would like to see some sort of plan to address the COI before I'd be willing to lift the block myself. Yunshui  13:02, 8 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello Yamla and Yunshui, I am kindly following up regarding the above request. Thank you!

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Jas10010 (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I am respectfully resubmitting this request to be unblocked as I was advised the block was declined because it was in an open state for more than two weeks. I had previously followed up with both the blocker Yunshui and reviewer Yamla as I believed I was awaiting further guidance from them about proceeding to relieve any concerns about a possible conflict of interest and Yunshui's request for some sort of plan to address his concerns. As stated previously, I do not have a paid conflict of interest as I was never paid by anyone to do work on Wikipedia, nor was I ever a paid employer or employee of Michael Weisman. He is neither a family member, nor someone I socialize with, and the page was created on my own volition and my only communication with him regarding the page was to obtain use of photographs. I did admit we were both employed by the same parent company for 5 months in 2015. I did not believe this qualified as a conflict of interest, but as a new member to Wikipedia apologized if I assumed incorrectly and would accept others' belief that this could be perceived as a conflict of interest, and regretted any confusion regarding who the proper copyright holders are for photos that I reached out to. I also apologized for misinterpreting Yunshui's initial message to me as I believed it was guidance regarding editorial content in the post. I would not have made the grammatical changes that I made or removed a link to a photo that was deleted knowing what I know now. I am still very eager to resolve this and address any conflict of interest concerns. I am more than willing to promise to avoid making any editorial/copy changes to the page going forward and instead make any suggestions, if applicable, on the talk page, as Yunshui suggested if this would resolve any concerns. I hope this shows my sincerity to resolve this, eliminate any conflict of interest concerns and that I am working in good faith here, although if more is needed please let me know what that may entail.

Accept reason:

Sorry, figured someone would have done this by now. Unblocked. Yunshui  18:17, 13 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Yamla and Yunshui, do you have any further concerns? 331dot (talk) 13:34, 5 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

I have not seen the OTRS information. I suggest the only people who should consider unblocking are people who have reviewed the OTRS material. If Yunshui has no objections, though, I also have no objections. And to be clear, if you (or any other admin) has reviewed the OTRS material and believes an unblock is appropriate, I would support that action. --Yamla (talk) 13:43, 5 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
I haven't reviewed that, so I will do as you advise. Thank you 331dot (talk) 13:49, 5 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
No objections here; based on the unblock appeal above I am fully in favour of unblocking. Yunshui  14:01, 5 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello Yamla, Yunshui and 331dot - I was kindly following up regarding the above responses to see if there is anything required from me to proceed with the request to unblock as I did not want to risk falling into the stale appeal state again. Thank you very much!
