License tagging for Image:Et-plain.gif

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Et-plain.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Speedy deletion of Blake russell

edit

A tag has been placed on Blake russell requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. ninety:one 18:21, 20 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image Copyright problem

Hi Jay.wind!
We thank you for uploading Image:GezahegneAberaInFrontOfMyCar.jpg, but there is a problem. Your image is currently missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Unless you can help by adding a copyright tag, it may be deleted by an Administrator. If you know this information, then we urge you to add a copyright tag to the image description page. We apologize for this, but all images must confirm to policy on Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks so much for your cooperation.

Notability of Robert Gurtler

edit

A tag has been placed on Robert Gurtler requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Porturology (talk) 07:38, 12 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:Elisha.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Elisha.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 04:05, 15 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

File:GezahegneAbera.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:GezahegneAberaInFrontOfMyCar.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. Proposed deletion of Citizen baby

edit

The article Citizen baby has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable neologism; Google and Google News searches turn up no uses of the term; possible original research.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Dabomb87 (talk) 22:24, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

UNBLOCK

edit

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Jay.wind (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

The page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_McCaffrey contains information about a prominent living person. The user MATERIALSCIENTIST insists on uploading false and libelous information. After two rounds of his changes overlaying my changes overlaying his changes, he caused a block. This matter must go to the arbitration committee.

Jay.wind (talk) 08:38, 13 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Multiple other editors disagree with your opinion of some of that content, and you wound up blindly undoing their edits even after they seemed receptive and starting to investigate and address your concerns. The first step in dispute resolution is to talk about it in a civil manner with the other editors. Once your block expires, feel free to raise your concerns on the article talk-page, being specific about which items you feel are inappropriate. DMacks (talk) 09:19, 13 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

This is an obvious result of your behavior, which I warned you about above. You have not provided specific details as to what content you believe is unsourced, libelous or otherwise violates Wikipedia content policies. You were right to remove some of the information - because it was unsourced and dubious. But you also removed a number of well-sourced arguments that were published in reliable sources by respected journalists, which became issues of significant debate and controversy. It is neither libelous nor against any content policy to republish matters of controversy that have been explored by reliable sources. I invite you to post on your talk page specific examples of your concerns, and if there is further content of the article which violates BLP, I shall be more than happy to immediately remove it. But you need to discuss it, not just revert and threaten. NorthBySouthBaranof (talk) 09:15, 13 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
It's wrong for other editors to select only negative material for inclusion in a Wikipedia biography, but the easiest way to improve the article is to leave some of that well-sourced negative stuff, and simply add the rest of the story that balances out the article. I tried to do that today for the section about his tenure as drug czar.Anythingyouwant (talk) 04:59, 14 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

I shall follow the guidelines henceforth.

General McCaffrey today sent me a large number of edits, which I shall make slowly and incrementally, with a talk comment about each one. Wherever possible, I shall add references to original sources. For instance, I shall tonight add West Point Association of Graduates of the United States Military Academy presentation of its 2010 Distinguished Graduate Award to Gen. McCaffrey, original source http://www.westpointaog.org/page.aspx?pid=4039&chid=81

For now, I shall leave intact the paragraphs critical of Gen. McCaffrey. As I delve deeper into the article, I shall open talk comments about specific changes.

I am glad to include my real name and my real phone number.

Hello Jay.wind,

It seems to me that an article you worked on, Morton Yolkut, may be copied from http://www.philly.com/philly/obituaries/20131117_Morton_Yolkut__70__NE_Phila__rabbi_for_four_decades.html. It's entirely possible that I made a mistake, but I wanted to let you know because Wikipedia is strict about copying from other sites.

It's important that you edit the article and rewrite it in your own words, unless you're absolutely certain nothing in it is copied. If you're not sure how to fix the problem or have any questions, there are people at the help desk who are happy to assist you.

I rewrote Rabbi Morton Yolkut's biography from scratch in my own words, citing original sources extensively.

I hope now it is acceptable.

Rabbi Yolkut was a prominent Jewish leader who represented his people nationwide.

Disclosure: I am Aline Schlesinger's first cousin, and I attended their wedding, the bar mitzvahs of their sons, the weddings of their sons, and Rabbi Yolkut's shiva services (tonight). I wrote the article as unbiased as I could possibly be, given my closeness to the family.

Proposed deletion of Morton Yolkut

edit

The article Morton Yolkut has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No independent, reliable references about him besides his obituary notice per WP:SOURCES Member of Congress giving a speech about him is no big deal.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. User page content

edit

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed a minor issue with your userpage, which doesn't meet Wikipedia's requirements that user pages are focused on their Wikipedia related endeavors rather than self promotion or resume - style writings (see Wikipedia:User pages#NO). However as a courtesy I am drawing this to your attention rather than editing your pages unilaterally. Basically Wikipedia cannot be used for self promotion, and user pages are provided to facilitate social understanding between users concerning their Wikipedia activities (they are not "free personal web pages" as on many other websites), so all but a brief summary about yourself and non-Wikipedia activities is a bit out of place. I'm very sorry about that. But I figure it's best to say so and ask you to read the guideline than do anything unilaterally without discussion. Changing the page so that it more clearly meets Wikipedia guidelines may be a good way to address it.

A good option might be to rewrite it to focus on your extensive editing improvements on Wikipedia. Alternatives are to leave a note here or on my talk page to discuss it, or to ask any administrator to simply delete it (add {{db-userreq}} to the top of the page in question). I'm sorry for troubling you with this.

Your user page, User:Jay.wind, has been nominated for deletion. This is because nothing has happened since my comment above, over 2 weeks ago, and the issue needs resolving. Your opinions on the matter are very welcome; please read our policy on user pages and participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Jay.wind. You are also free to edit the page, fix any issues yourself, or request deletion of the page, while the discussion is continuing, but you should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion.

I have emailed you as well, as I see you haven't edited Wikipedia in the last couple of months, and you may not be aware of the discussion if you don't receive notification emails. Thank you, and again, I'm sorry for troubling you with this. FT2 (Talk | email) 09:25, 8 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Willie Wind

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Law of the instrument, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Speedy deletion nomination of Dr. Francisco Duran

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Dr. Francisco Duran, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. I agree that the page entitled all in CAPS should be deleted. I could not figure out how to do that.

Hi Jay, the bio you created has been deleted because the subject isn't notable enough; see WP:N and WP:GOLDENRULE. You would need to produce independent secondary sources such as newspaper articles. I looked around before deleting and didn't find anything. If that's mistaken and you do have sources, let me know. Best, SarahSV (talk) 02:34, 8 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

[Copied from SV talk] Arlington (Virginia) Public Schools' School Board last night announced the appointment of Dr. Francisco Duran to be Superintendent of Schools from June 1, 2020, to June 30, 2023. This appointment affects all 250,000 people in Arlington and many outside the county. Our local newspapers convey the story:
https://www.arlnow.com/2020/05/07/nationwide-search-finds-new-aps-superintendent-in-fairfax-county/
https://www.insidenova.com/news/arlington/arlington-turns-to-fairfax-for-new-superintendent-of-schools/article_571d25d6-911c-11ea-b161-27d370a587b0.html
and soon, The Washington Post.
To create an article about Dr. Duran, I copied his biography from the official Fairfax Schools web page https://www.fcps.edu/staff/francisco-duran
I think his selection merits inclusion in Wikipedia as a person who will hold great influence over a large population.

Hi Jay wind, I've copied your reply here, so that the conversation is on one page. If you need to reply again, please do it here. You can read our notability guideline for people at Wikipedia:Notability (people). It says: "People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject."
You've collected two stories so far about his appointment. If the Washington Post covers something about him, that will be a good step in the right direction. How do you know there will be a Washington Post article? SarahSV (talk) 20:20, 8 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Washington Post always covers stories about top school officials in the region's jurisdictions.
I'll notify you when the Post article appears.
Jay.wind (talk) 20:31, 8 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thank you. Bear in mind that it has to be in-depth coverage. There are thousands of school superintendents in the US alone. We can't host articles on them all. SarahSV (talk) 21:06, 8 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
WP:POLITICIAN is probably the closest guideline, with WP:POLOUTCOMES having useful supporting examples. "Routine coverage", even if a long report about it, seems generally not to be sufficient itself to merit a stand-alone article. DMacks (talk) 21:37, 8 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
