Non-free images

edit

Please do not re-add images pending deletion. You recently uploaded File:Cincy montage.JPG to commons. Commons only allows free-use images, not fair-use images, which this is. On top of that, you also failed to provide a fair use rationale for it. In 6 days, it will be deleted from commons. It may be moved to Wikipedia, as long as you provide a fair-use rationale. Also, having a marginally larger image at the top sort of takes away from the rest of the article. It is unclear what the focus is, and should not be reincluded.--Unionhawk Talk 18:01, 3 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Image tagging for File:Cincy montage part 2.JPG

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Cincy montage part 2.JPG. You don't seem to have said where the image came from or who created it. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Selena-gomez-allstar-party-nc.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Selena-gomez-allstar-party-nc.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File source problem with File:Cincy montage part 2.JPG

edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Cincy montage part 2.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:55, 20 June 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Terrillja talk 02:55, 20 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

June 2009

edit

The recent edit you made has been reverted, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Uploading images because the existing ones are bad angles does not excuse your copyright violations. If you continue to upload copyrighted images, you will be blocked. Persistent image violations

edit

The recent edit you made to Isla Fisher has been reverted, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. This is your final warning: if your violate our image policies again, you will be blocked from editing.—Kww(talk) 05:44, 20 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's actually very simple: unless you have written permission from the owner of an image to upload the image, you probably shouldn't. The exceptions are documented at WP:NFCC, but as a new editor, it's probably best to not deal with exceptions: only upload images where you have written permission.—Kww(talk) 05:52, 20 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I saved you...this time.

edit

I sourced that montage for you. Please see how I did it, as this is how you properly attribute a collage. Thanks to the GFDL/CC-BY-SA relicensing, at least you got spared this time. Some times, you might not be so lucky, so keep a light footing. ViperSnake151  Talk  13:52, 28 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (File:Duke energy.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Duke energy.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 18:22, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable non-free images

edit

Let me explain to you about replaceable non-free images with regard to File:Cincinnati Skyline Cincin 48a38f70d3740.jpg. A person could buy an outfield ticket, take a very similar photo, and release it under a free license. That means that this non-free photo could replaced by a free photo. And that in turn means that Wikipedia policy won’t let us use the non-free photo. (Even if they don’t allow you to take photos, someone could undoubtedly slip a camera in.) It’s a really nice photo, but we can’t use it. And your uploading it was a waste of your effort and the deleting admin’s. —teb728 t c 22:25, 27 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

With regard to File:Duke energy.jpg: Wikipedia policy prefers a free image even if there is a "better" non-free one. You can't use a non-free image if any free substitute exists or even could be created. It doesn't matter that you can't find one that you like. —teb728 t c 22:42, 27 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I noticed that you asked at User talk:Polly#what can I do though? what you could do to fix it. You live in Cincinnati, right? So take your digital camera to the stadium and to the Duke Center, take your own pictures, and upload them under a free license. They might not be as good as those professional photos, but you won't get hasseled over them. —teb728 t c 07:47, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
