Burj Dubai

edit

I'm wondering why you removed this sourced paragraph:

Most of these workers are forced to give up their passports upon entering Dubai, making it very difficult to return home. NPR reports that workers "typically live eight to a room, sending home a portion of their salary to their families, whom they don't see for years at a time." Others report that their salary has been withheld to pay back loans, making them little more than indentured servants. Local newspapers have carried stories of construction workers allegedly not being paid for months on end.

I can understand rewriting, but I'm not sure I see the reason for full on removal. Thanks. -Quasipalm 17:06, 26 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Good point, perhaps we could put a "see also" and point to the subsection of the Dubai article. -Quasipalm 17:37, 26 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Criticism of Islam article

edit

Could you please let me know what does it mean to you that God repents? We know that God is oft-repenting. Thanks --Aminz 06:32, 30 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Haven't you heard that "Inna Allaha Tawaboun rahim"; God is called to be Tawab which means the one who repents frequently. When we say God repents, it has a totally different meaning of course. I am trying to find a link for you. Peace. --Aminz 07:08, 30 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Jibran, point #1. Tawab literally means the one who frequently repents (ask a native speaker). It does not literally mean the one who accepts the Tawba. Tawba literally means to return. But I agree that it is not generally understood in the way I said in the Muslim community. So, please go ahead and remove Tawbah from the article.

point #2. There are a lot of places in the Bible that God repents. please have a look at [1]. You'll get an idea of what repent means in the bible. Thanks. --Aminz 07:34, 30 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

A question: The 'Acceptor of Repentance' means 'ghabel al-tawb'; this is used in Qur'an. If "tawab" and "ghabel al-tawb" have the same meaning, why Qur'an uses both of them. Thanks --Aminz 07:53, 30 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yusuf Ali translation of verse 49:12: " O ye who believe! Avoid suspicion as much (as possible): for suspicion in some cases is a sin: And spy not on each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Nay, ye would abhor it...But fear God. For God is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful. " Oft-returning is the translation of "tawab". The Summary of ^Abdullah al-Harariyy Ensuring the Personal Obligatory Knowledge of the Religion:

Is a summary of most of the Obligatory Knowledge every accountable person is obligated to know. This comprises the Obligatory Knowledge pertaining to belief, issues from Purification (Taharah) up to Pilgrimage (Hajj), and some rules of dealings according to the school (madhhab) of Imam ash-Shafi^iyy. The sins of the heart and of other organs, such as the tongue, are also included.

The original book was written by the Hadramiyy faqih (scholar): ^Abdullah Ibn Husayn Ibn Tahir. Many precious issues were added to the book; what was mentioned about Sufism was omitted. Some sentences were changed in such a way that it would not change the subject. In a few cases the author mentioned what some Shafi^iyy scholars, like al-Bulqiniyy, preponderated in an effort to expose what was weak in the original book. One must pay due attention to this Obligatory Knowledge in order to have one's deeds accepted.

Robin van Persie

edit

The Islamic Times article about Robin van Persie is an unattributed copy of an old version of Van Persie's Wikipedia article. References to van Persie converting to Islam were removed from that article after they could not be verified. I spent a fair while looking for a source to verify the claim but all I found were Wikipedia mirrors, hence I removed him from the list of converts. Oldelpaso 15:14, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your hard work on the article of Criticism of Islam. I appreciate it.

Regarding the sentence: "... same sphere as the Golden Rule, although often these injunctions are only designated towards other believers". I should say you are right in removing it since the link was not provided. But to be honest, there is more to this and the sentence was sort of true. I think God in Qur'an usually says that he loves believers and not Kafirs. He may say that he is merciful to all at some level; but much more stress is laid upon those who believe or repent. In many places he says that he doesn’t love several types of people. --Aminz 09:38, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Looks like everyone is thanking you. I'm only now learning how this template works, and there may be some improvements we can make to it. I'll be back to add it wherever I find the Qur'an cited, though it may take awhile...I wonder if we can get a template for Bukhari as well?Timothy Usher 04:19, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bukhari template.... not a bad idea. I dont even know the first thing about creating a template, but I'm down with us having more, because of the convenience associated with it. How DID you create that template? :) --Jibran1 04:23, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
I didn't, Tom harrison did. I'm working with him now to add a few others, one to allow us to link to Qur'an without the word "Qur'an" displayed (where it's implicit/has appeared earlier in the sentence) and one to allow us to cite ranges (X:Y-Z), as well as Bukhari equivalents.
Good luck on your tests.Timothy Usher 21:44, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Jibran1, Check it out,

[Quran 009:010]

009:010

[Quran 009:010]

Four display options. Still waiting for the green light from Tom harrison on naming conventions, so don't use them yet.

I'll get to Bukhari shortly.Timothy Usher 03:47, 25 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Islamic scripture template news=

edit

1) Template:Quran-usc has been altered in two respects:

a) it’s no longer required to input three digits - this is automated thanks to joturner.
b) the template no longer includes “Qur’an” in the bluelighted display. Editor may choose to write it or not (or “Sura”, or “verse”, etc.) according to context.
c) thus the “-num” variants are redundant and should not be used.

2) The “range display” problem is still not solved - more information coming soon.

3) Template:Bukhari-usc is operative, with three variables (volume, book, hadith), and automated tridigitation as per Quran-usc.

4) Template:Quran-usc-num, Template:Quran-usc-numrange and Template:Buhari are defunct and should be deleted.Timothy Usher 07:42, 26 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Some material

edit

Jibran, I have found the following sourced matterial but either didn't found the right place to add them or wasn't able to do it or didn't have time for it. It is about dhimmi article. I am leaving wikipedia. Would you please keep your eyes on that article. If you found any new editor working on that article, it would be good to provide him a link to this.

"Dhimmis were little disturbed during the rule of Ommiads (with the exception of Omar II) since "it was not in keeping with the worldly policy of those rulers to favor the tendencies of fanatical zealots."[1] Jewish encyclopedia states that "Intolerance of infidels and a limitation of their freedom were first made a part of the law during the rule of the Abbassids, who, to bring about the ruin of their predecessors, had supported theocratic views and granted great influence to the representatives of intolerant creeds. Under them also the law was introduced compelling Jews to be distinguished by their clothing. At a later period such distinguishing marks became frequent in the Mohammedan kingdoms." [2] Some restrictions imposed on dhimmis from time to time, such as the use of neck seals in the administration of the poll tax in seventh- and eighth-century in Syria and Iraq [3], and requirements to wear distinctive clothing, were symbolic in nature and were designed to highlight the inferiority of dhimmis compared to Muslims."

"There were also many enlightened conversions to Islam among the Jews in the twelfth century. Grätz considers it as “partly owing as to the degeneracy that had taken hold of Eastern Judaism, manifesting itself in the most superstitious practices, and partly moved by the wonderful success of the Arabs in becoming a world-power”. There were also many forced conversion to Islam due to “the rise of the Almohades (Unitarians), in 1142, and the great wave of religious reform, mixed with religious fanaticism”. [4]"

"The Shia jurist Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi comments that the main philosophy of jizya is that it is only a financial aid to those muslims who are in the charge of safeguarding the security of the state and Dhimmi's lives and properties on their behalf [5].

Many Muslim scholars, but not all, have recommended jizya to be collected in a humiliating procedure based on the Qur'ans usage of the word sa:ghiru:na in Qur'an [Quran 9:29]."

"Allameh Tabatabaei, a prominent contemporary Shia scholar, commenting on a hadith that claims that the above verse has "abrogated" other verses asking for good behaviour toward dhimmis, states that "abrogation" could be understood either in its terminological sense or its literal sense. If "abrogation" is understood in its terminological sense, Muslims should deal with dhimmis stricly in a good and decent manner. [6]"

Thanks and take care my friend. --Aminz 06:32, 25 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image Tagging Image:Dubaimall.jpg

edit

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Dubaimall.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Hetar 22:51, 25 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

edit

Your very fine image comparing the tallest buildings in the world was recently deleted over objections from a number of users. Evidently, it fell under speedy deletion criteria I3 because its license wasn't "free enough" for Wikipedia. I've made preliminary efforts to get this criteria scrapped here, but to no avail as of yet. When you return from your wikibreak, I strongly encourage you to upload the image again under the GFDL, which is more amenable to Wikipedia and doesn't run afoul of WP:NONFREE or any speedy deletion criteria. Fair use rationale for Image:Xanga down.JPG

Fair use rationale for Image:Xanga_down.JPG

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Xanga_down.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Replaceable fair use Image:Dubaimall.jpg

edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Dubaimall.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice?Dream out loud (talk) 04:53, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

The article List of shopping malls in the United Arab Emirates has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unmaintainable and unencyclopedic list lacking in sourcing

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
