Actress Yaya DaCosta is now named as Yaya Alafia (her IMDb page: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1861624/) - ought we / can we amend her Wikipedia page to reflect this change? How? Thanks :) JoBrodie (talk) 09:47, 11 December 2012 (UTC)
- "Can we?" - Yes. "How?" - I'll tell you below. "Ought we?" More difficult. The policy on article titles says "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources." (See WP:COMMONNAME.) A Google search for "Yaya DaCosta" -"Yaya Alafia" gave me about 1,720,000 hits, while "Yaya Alafia" -"Yaya DaCosta" gave me only about 2,800, suggesting that "Yaya DaCosta" is still overwhelmingly the commoner. However, there are all sorts of other considerations that that simple Google search doesn't address, such as how many of the hits are old, how many are in reliable sources, etc etc. My feeling is, however, that in this case the preponderance of the old name is so great (more than 600 times more common) that I would leave the article where it is, and create a redirect to it at Yaya Alafia. However, if you wish to consider renaming it, you should check the policy Wikipedia:Article titles first. I have added a note to the article Yaya DaCosta mentioning the change of name.
- Even if you don't rename this article, it may be helpful to you to know how to do it for future reference. Somewhere in the row of links near the top of the Wikipedia page (article, talk, edit, etc) there is a link that says "move". If you use the default Wikipedia interface, it usually hides this link, and you have to point your mouse at a little downward-pointing triangle to make it show up. (This is one of the many irritating features of the current default interface which lead me to use another, older interface instead.) If you click on that link, you will see a form to move/rename a page. There is a label "To new title:" on the page, and near it you will find a box containing the text "Yaya DaCosta". Replace that with "Yaya Alafia", put a brief explanation in the box labelled "Reason:" and click on "move page". JamesBWatson (talk) 11:57, 11 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the help and advice - the addition of the clarification to her page seems fine, I think I will leave it at that for now, thank you :) JoBrodie (talk) 22:51, 11 December 2012 (UTC)
I have created a redirect at Yaya Alafia, so that anyone searching for her under that name will find the article. JamesBWatson (talk) 08:52, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

editThanks for fixing my spelling error in the article. Someone has removed the images for the article: [1] Saying that they may represent copyright infringement. Maybe you can help decide. I listed them as promotional images since they came from the promotional kit given at the drug rep dinner. Hello - I have turned on my email (I think)... Anyway, I like the pictures but the decision may be bigger than all of us as if they do infringe copyright I can imagine all sorts of woes and annoyances if a company decided to get shirty. Perhaps asking the company's (Novo Nordisk was one I think) if they wouldn't mind? Personally I can't see a problem as long as the owner of a picture is properly attributed, but presumably lawyers have a business to earn and so will create a problem where there was none in the first place ;-) JoBrodie 18:06, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Whole Lotta Sole movie poster.jpg)
editThanks for uploading File:Whole Lotta Sole movie poster.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:36, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Whole Lotta Sole poster.pdf
editA tag has been placed on File:Whole Lotta Sole poster.pdf requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F10 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file that is not an image, sound file or video clip (e.g. a Word document or PDF file) that has no encyclopedic use.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Sumanch (talk) 00:37, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for July 8
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Live blood analysis, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Advertising Standards Authority (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hello, I went ahead and added the "underconstruction" tag on the page. It was my first few experiences here that incomplete pages in mainspace are speedily deleted without much ado. Plus, the page needs layout fixing too. Merry Christmas. Csgir (talk) 11:23, 25 December 2018 (UTC)
- Also, the external links I see on the current draft - rethink about adding them. Adding external links in the body text is one of the signals indicating "paid" editing. If you are doing paid editing, disclose it on your user page. Csgir (talk) 11:27, 25 December 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks :) Definitely not being paid to edit so I suppose I had better add them as references instead. Thanks for the tip JoBrodie (talk) 11:50, 25 December 2018 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about List of Twitter traditions
editHello, JoBrodie,
Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Citrivescence and it's nice to meet you :-)
I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, List of Twitter traditions should be deleted. Your comments are welcome over Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Twitter traditions .
You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not ballot-polls. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Citrivescence}}
. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~
. Thanks!

The article Alliance of Registered Homeopaths has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Insufficiently notable
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Alexbrn (talk) 08:11, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
Discretionary Sanctions Alert
editThis is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.
You have shown interest in pseudoscience and fringe science. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.
For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.
--Guy Macon (talk) 01:00, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
- (Zero issues with your edits. I am just hitting everyone on the Jenny McCarthy page that hasn't received a pseudoscience and fringe science discretionary sanctions alert in the last year) --Guy Macon (talk) 01:00, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
Hello, JoBrodie,
Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Nsk92 and it's nice to meet you :-)
I wanted to let you know that I’ve proposed an article that you started, Amulet (film), for deletion because it meets one of the relevant criterion.The particular issue can be located in the notice, that is now-visible at the top of the article.
If you wish to prevent the deletion:
- Edit the page
- Remove the text that looks like this:
{{proposed deletion/dated...}}
- Click
Publish Changes
button.
But, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the raised issues. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Nsk92}}
. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~
