- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>
, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References== {{Reflist}}
Introduction to contentious topics
editYou have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

- Concerning your reverts on Royal Indian Navy, please join the discussion at Talk:Royal Indian Navy#User Job Chodh Du and discuss the changes per WP:BRD so that a consensus can be reached rather than reverting the content back and forth, which may result in being blocked to prevent further edit warring. If a consensus cannot be reached between the two of you, you may use dispute resolution methods such as WP:3O and WP:DRN. Thank you. - Aoidh (talk) 09:10, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @Aoidh:
- I had been a little busy for the past few days, so I am sorry I was unable to reply. As for the Talk:Royal Indian Navy#User Job Chodh Du I am willing to discuss about changes. But I have noticed User:PadFoot2008 targeting changes done by me and reverting these edits. You can check the edit history of articles Indian Army, British Indian Army and Royal Indian Navy where they have constantly have reverted my changes multiple times.
- I also request you to invite you to give your advice on Talk:Indian Army#Formation date. If you are willing, please join ifor n the discussion.
- Regards Job Chodh Du (talk) 07:28, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Job Chodh Du has been making contentious edits to articles without holding talk page discussions (Indian Army and British Indian Army). However I agree that my edit on RIN on the other hand would be designated as contentious as it was reverted and accordingly I have opened a discussion and not reverted back. He doesn't seem to be familiar with BRD. On British Indian Army, his edit would be marked as contentious as it was reverted and he shouldn't add it back and open a talk page discussion which he hasn't done. Regarding your edit to the Telugu Name of India in the article Names of India in its official languages
editYou have reverted my edit to the article where the name of India in Telugu is భారతము (Bharatamu) to Bharata. Bharata is not the Telugu word for India, the correct standalone word is Bharatamu and Bharata is only a Prefix which is used when talking about India. Eg. Bharata Desam (India Country). So it sometimes seems that Bharata is the Telugu word, It is not. Telugu is an Agglutinative language so some words are cut short when kept together with other words.
Bharatamu is Bharata (Sanskrit loan word) + -mu (Singular Neuter Suffix in Telugu).
I request you not to edit it if you do not speak/know the language and its grammar rules.
