AFD discussions
Hello Jzsj, I am not sure if you are aware that during any AFD discussions that, as well as discussing you are allowed to leave a vote. This goes also for AFD discussion for articles that you may have created. At the closing of an AFD the admin reads over all the discussion, looks at the rough vote tally, and makes the decision of what to do. So in summary, you may place a vote along with your discussion at an AFD even if you are the creator of the article being discussed. It is always good to quote policies and sources to back up your argument. Best regards! Fouetté rond de jambe en tournant 02:31, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

The Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation has appointed a committee to lead the search for the foundation’s next Executive Director. One of our first tasks is to write the job description of the executive director position, and we are asking for input from the Wikimedia community. Please take a few minutes and complete this survey to help us better understand community and staff expectations for the Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director.

Logo
Not the most relevant logo. Both schools have their own logos. Why do you not upload those logos? If you do not know how to, just ask. Pjposullivan (talk) 14:43, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- I know that a mere name in a logo is for free use but one needs permission to upload most logos. I suggest that the Jesuit or Ignatian logo is better than nothing, and that if we don't intend to assist them by getting their logo uploaded that we should leave it up to them to reject the generic logo that has been placed for them: if they don't know how to remove it they can mention it on the talk page, but most I find, as with these two schools, seem interested in maintaining their Jesuit and Ignatian identity, as per refs.Jzsj (talk) 14:57, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Please read WP:LOGO. No permission is required. Also, read WP:COI, it is not the responsibility of the schools to upload their own logo. To be honest, I am surprised that this discussion is continuing. You have thousands of edits and are experienced in how Wikipedia works and its aims and standards, but still continue to find excuses to pursue this agenda of putting the IHS logo on every possible Jesuit-linked article. Logos are uploaded to benefit the Wikipedia reader (not the school, and not the Society of Jesus) so as to make clear the subject of the article. The school articles you placed the symbol on are not about the Society of Jesus. Those schools are not the Society of Jesus. They may be affiliated or once shared a common history, but the Society of Jesus and these schools are not the same thing. Is any person their parent? The rationale behind uploading logos is to benefit the reader to make clear the subject of the article and those articles are not about the Society of Jesus. I do not see a neutral point of view in you putting the Society of Jesus logo onto articles about a different subject. If you want the best logo to describe a subject, upload that school's logo. You wrote, "I suggest that the Jesuit or Ignatian logo is better than nothing." Where is the magis in that? Where is the magis in putting the same generic logo on articles about a different entity? Pjposullivan (talk) 15:16, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- * Thanks for sticking with me here. First, most of these places do use the Ignatian logo somewhere, like in their publications, so they don't shun it. As to uploading logos, I need a Wiki for Dummies since I seldom find the info pages user-friendly. In almost all of I've done I simply copied what I saw on other Wiki pages. Can you suggest where I can find how to lift a logo from a school's website and do I simply use the free-use tag in Wiki Commons? Appreciate any help with this.Jzsj (talk) 15:34, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- You're right, the info pages are not user friendly. As logos are non-free images, they have to be uploaded on Wikipedia, not Wiki Commons. This just means that the logo cannot be used outside of the article on that subject. Sorry if I state the obvious and sound patronizing in the next few sentences, it's just a quick step by step guide to uploading logos: On the school's website right-click on the logo and save image on to your computer:
- On the left hand side of any Wikipedia page, click 'Upload File' and then click on 'Click here to start the Upload Wizard'.
- Steps 1 is to upload the file. Step 2 is to name the file, and describe it.
- On Step 3, click on 'This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use' tab. This will create a series of boxes to be filled out. Write in the drop down menu where you will use the logo and then click on 'logo of an organization'.
- This will create another drop down menu where you type the school's website into the 'Source' section and state in the 'In view of this, please explain how the use of this file will be minimal' section that it will only be used in the subject's article on the logo's subject.
- When you have filled out all the necessary sections, the 'upload' button on the bottom of the page with become active, click on it and you're done.
Hope this helps, sorry for being angry in my last message, happy editing, Pjposullivan (talk) 15:52, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the detailed help! On my fourth time through all our "Jesuit institutions" I'll try to get this right. With your help it worked!Jzsj (talk) 15:58, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Wonderful! There's also another way to get the image, in case saving the image doesn't work or produces a weird result. You can take a snapshot of the image by holding down Command, Shift and 4 on a Mac keyboard. On a PC there is the Print Screen button to take a picture of the screen and then use an image program such as Paint to cut and paste the image you want. From there you can upload the image as before. Hope this helps, Pjposullivan (talk) 20:52, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help with this. I've followed your directions to place dozens of logos, working on some in PAINT but that's no problem.Jzsj (talk) 02:08, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Jzsj, sorry to bring up the logos thing again, but the logos you've uploaded are missing the rationale template. It's easy to fix, to each picture just add the Template:Non-free use rationale logo. I've added the template to File:ISIAyuuk.jpg to show how easy it is. I've also changed the wording of my message above to try and make navigating the Wiki Upload Wizard a bit easier. Happy editing and hope you continue to enjoy editing Wikipedia, Pjposullivan (talk) 03:14, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

I tried to move St. Joseph's PU College to St. Joseph’s Pre-University College, as recommended on the talk page of the first, but instead it just gave the first the name of the second, and surprisingly there are now two different pages with identical names in Wiki! I had merged all the good stuff from the first (PU) with the second (fuller-named) article, and so I'm just looking to eliminate the former PU article entirely now. Can you do this for me? To be clear, we need to get rid of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Joseph%E2%80%99s_Pre-University_College and to retain https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Joseph%27s_Pre-University_College (though the %E2%80%99s does not appear in the present URL of the first).Jzsj (talk) 00:03, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for File:LoyGuatemala.png
Thanks for uploading File:LoyGuatemala.png. Unfortunately, I think that you have not provided a proper rationale for using this image under "fair use". Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. Note that the image description page must include the exact name or a link to each article the image is used in and a separate rationale for each one. (If a link is used, automated processes may improperly add the related tag to the image. Please change the fair use template to refer to the exact name, if you see this warning.)
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 22:17, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
Template problems
Several of you recent logo upload have broken templates. Please make sure they are properly closed with two "right curly brakets" like these } so no one has to come back and fix them for you. Look at my recent edits of your uploads to see what I mean. Thanks. ww2censor (talk) 22:23, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware of the need to wait till an article is out of the sandbox to place a no-free logo, thanks for pointing it out. Also, I looked at several of the last articles where I used non-free logos, and I failed to find where you had edited them. Please tell me one article where you did this so I can see what I need to do. Also, does just responding to your message automatically alert you, or did I need this reply template?@Ww2censor:Thanks.Jzsj (talk) 22:47, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
- I edited the images you uploade not the articles you worked on, such as this edit. Indeed there is a restriction on the use of non-free images per WP:NFCC#9. Good luck. ww2censor (talk) 23:22, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. I see where I lost the }} in reusing my copy of the template, and will see where the rest of it comes up next time I upload one of these. I believe the logos I loaded are according to the rules.Jzsj (talk) 23:52, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
