Important articles!
editI had a look through your edit history, and noticed that you have started some important articles. Some of these have developed into good articles, some are stubs but could be improved. You could add this list on your user page. It is quite impressive for your edit count. -- Petri Krohn 18:25, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello, I am puzzled as to why you started an article called Second War of Haitian Independence. Were you aware that there is already an article on the Haitian Revolution which covers this very subject? (and in greater depth than you've supplied, as well). Please take a look at that article - you are welcome to add to it if you wish. But I don't think there is a need for a second article. I was thinking of tagging it for deletion, but I thought I would give you a "heads up" before I proceed. Regards, Cgingold 13:15, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Petsamo expedition
editA {{prod}} template has been added to the article Petsamo expedition, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. MastCell Talk 21:57, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Sodan kirja.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Sodan kirja.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:25, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

editHi. When you recently edited Capture of Älvsborg, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Älvsborg (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Detail
editIt doesn't matter much in that particular discussion now, but on your reply here [1], when I said "can you read it?", I was referring to [2], and I got the impression you summarized the [3] which is not locked for me. Or did you actually summarize the ess.fi? Maybe they're basically the same. I get the impression that google translate does a decent job on Finnish, but there's always a risk for mistakes, and with BLP:s one shpuld take extra care. Hello!
editHope you are well. And around. I just added some google-translated Finnish from this source [4] here [5], and wondered if you could check for horrible errors. And if you want to join the discussion at the talkpage, that's fine too. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:19, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
- Technically the article says the army is "a hundred thousand strong" which is the same as somebody writing "100,000". Tens of thousands makes his claim sound smaller than what he claim in kuvalehti. Athetics should probably have an l in it, it doesn't say it was an injury, but that he's knees "failed" him, without specifying it was an injury.
- The rest is correct :) Kennet.mattfolk (talk) 17:51, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

editHello @AndyTheGrump and ping to all editors.
May I say you may be breft of the rights of government-in-exile per your submission.
Kindly read Government-in-exile#Activities (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government-in-exile#Activities) for clear understanding of this very dispute.
They have rights to hold elections or amend or revise its own constitution under international law. Read also past and present Exile governments. Ojukwu was their first president and later fled to Exile with his government. Please, first familiarize yourself with the topic before contributing. Read the Finnish Wikipedia. which I failed to properly wikilink in the above submission from me. One of the template tag on Simon Ekpa article page clearly stated that editors can help translate the corresponding Finnish Wikipedia to the English one and I seek to apply it judiciously.
For @Gråbergs Gråa Sång, the Exile government is headquartered the US according to report. What makes you feel they are not a government-in-exile and that they are just claiming to be?
That Finnish Wikipedia evaluated him being a "Prime Minof Biafra in exile ister" is highly interesting to note for every editor on the English Wikipedia.
Familiarize with government-in-exile and their activities as we reach a conclusive consensus here. . Sincerely, Fugabus (talk) 16:51, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Why are you spreading this discussion out amongst many talk pages? There is already a place for this post of yours, here. As to the Finnish wikipedia, it only says in definite language on the introduction/lead to the body, while in the body it states "Simon Ekpa julistautui Biafran tasavallan pakolaishallituksen (BRGIE) pääministeriksi" as of writing, which key word there in that quote is "julistautui" meaning he declared himself as pm. I originally proposed translating material from finnish wiki on the corresponding english talk page. The Finnish wiki uses as well the kuvalehti source. You have not argued for terms and such, that you have gotten seem to have miss-understood. So how about not patronizing me by explaining things to me I already know, no need to tell me to read anything. More, this imv clarifies what your motive here is, being a self-declared pm doesn't mean the govt in exile doesn't exist, just who's the leader. Your the one confusing an organization with an person it seems
- That US report is also covered in kuvalehti, if memory serves their 'finance minister'.
- How about not spamming pls.
- Kind regards, Kennet.mattfolk (talk) 17:15, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Please, I apologize for the error. I missed something I typed. Can you please help me delete the rubbish? Fugabus (talk) 17:35, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Fugabus, please do not spread this discussion over multiple pages. I responded to your question on WP:BLPN, and am not going to engage elsewhere. AndyTheGrump (talk) 17:33, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

Misconception
editDear @Kennet.mattfolk I never meant to say Kuvalehti and Yle are Clickbait. In fact, I believe in their their reportage. If you could recall, I was replying to Gråbergs Gråa Sång then when they said they were skeptical about Kuvalehti reportage on the title of the article found on X and I said the title was a Clickbait to get audience read them. Do understand please. Fugabus (talk) 18:32, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- And again, I never translated Finnish language but I relied on your own translation when you said "At least he is Prime Minister to some". That tread is long but I believe you can recall on that talk page
- Thanks for your understanding
- Fugabus (talk) 18:37, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Ok, I seem to have miss-understood you with the clickbait. I'm glad it seems to have been resolved :) Kennet.mattfolk (talk) 20:07, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
Translation
editMany years ago, before GT, me and some coworkers found an autotranslation of a tape recorder manual, and it was a fun challenge to try to reconstruct the English from the badly mangled Swedish. We got really stuck on "anklaga batteriet", but then it hit me: "charge the battery!" This is great:[6]. I once put "... mellan Vättern och Värnen..." through an early GT, and it gave me "between the lake and the lake". BUT, GT has gotten better over the years, and is often helpful, but it's easy to miss when it's not. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:39, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Gråbergs Gråa Sång
- Yes, came to think of placenames from that link. Where I live there are many swedish place names that end in something-lax, as in the fish, many think it's wierd why name so many places after one fish. But it's because the early sweds that came over asked what's this place called and got 'metsälahti' or something, (skogsbukt), but could today look like metslax if it where a place or origibally metsalaxi. Because the vikings couldn't pronounce finnish sounds such as 'ht' in lahti. Haha :D
- Though with GT, in my experience is depends on the language. Indo-european languages are the ones it gets the best imo. But finnish is agglutinative, like Korean and others. Meaning the same baseword Pako, to flee, can be pako-la-inen, 'the one who fled' or refugee, asylum seeker. Or fast forward pako-la-is-hallitus, 'the govt of the ones who fled' or govt in exile. GT struggles bc the baseword pako is still the same, but the meaning changed, gt is just wtf just happened. :D Kennet.mattfolk (talk) 19:12, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- That reminds me of a Korean interview I tried to GT translate and I got "When I meet my sleep, my bottom comes up." I never did find out what it meant.
- One of the heroes in The Emberverse series is the American Mike Havel, his family is partly Finnish. "-Then why is your name Czech? -Well, when great grandfather came to work at the ironmine, the Czech foreman asked his name. He said "Myllyharju!" and the foreman declared "From now on, your name is Havel!"" The nation he founds take the battlecry "hakkaa päälle!" Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:33, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yep, I'm been wanting to learn Korean, it's bones are very similar to finnish, how you build sentenses, words etc., but all the meat, such as vocabulary very different.
- Woow looked up those books as audio books, their like 20h+ and there a lot of them, it would take time to get through them :D. I wonder where Myllyharju is, sound like a place name made into a surname, which means Millridge. Probably some tiny village somewhere where his ancestors are from.
- Hakkaa Päälle was actually made known/popular as a battlecry during Sweden-Finland joint 'greatest' rise in global power with Gustav Adolf and his Hakapelittas during the Thirty Years War. Which eventually would start the stormakstiden. Kennet.mattfolk (talk) 19:59, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Nantucket series, related to the other series, is shorter. In 1998, Nantucket, with perhaps 6000 tourists and 2000 natives, move back in time to the bronze age. "-We must get more food. And plenty of salt, especially when we start bringing in whale-meat. -What! You can't hunt whales! -Why not? -They're an endangered species! -No, they're a fucking navigational hazard! You can't sail out 2 miles without bumping into the bloody things!" Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:19, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yep, those were the days... But perhaps not for actually living in, 90% of armies dying from deceases and all that. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:22, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

Per your translation of Kuvalehti report. I wanted to get clarified on how "Be it as it may, Ekpa is now at least the prime minister by some" eventually interpreted to "He is the self-declared prime minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile".
If he is a Prime Minister to some According Suomen Kuvalehti, how does it mean in reality that he is a "self-declared" Prime Minister?
I also learnt you have problems with getting full access to the article because it is protected against unsubscribed readers. It may interest you to know that for the purpose of this dispute, I have subscribed to Kuvalehti and now have full access to that article and throughout, I didn't read Self-declared as on the Lead of Simon Ekpa. What suomen Kuvalehti did specially on that report was investigative journalism. You may wish to have it pasted as text here per your request.
Best regards,

- I suggested on the talk page on Simom Ekpa, that self-declared should be changed to self-described. (see here).
- As you point out, he may not be self appointed as the term "self-declared" implies. Though the same quote of my translation also show he is not universally accepted as a "prime minister". My attempt and position is a try to compromise between these. There is finnish sources that say his describes himself as pm. Describing one as a pm is imo different from having single handedly declared oneself to be pm. Self-described imo includes that he may have genuine support, but also while recognizing it is not universal. To be clear, I think " Self-declared Prime Minister" and "Prime minister" both are bad.
- Gråberg actually found a twitter link that fixed my access problem. :) Kennet.mattfolk (talk) 12:07, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
- Leaving it with self-described is even worst per what Gråbergs Gråa Sång said. It has no connotation. It is just like when Joe Biden says, "I am the president of the US". Would you say self-described president? Of course not! I am not comparing him with Joe Biden but trying to drive my point home.
- My own take has been that all the qualifiers should not be on the Lead since it has has negative or perhaps controversial connotation. We already have them on body under Simon Simon_Ekpa#Activism_and_separatism. I think we should settle for the Wikipedia:SECONDARY of Kuvalehti and leave Yle Primary source to avoid contentious content in the Lead.
- If we begin to add all qualifiers per what all the news media called him, the Lead will burst.
- Please help me to ping Gråbergs Gråa Sång since you mentioned them here. «fjuːgəbʌs» (talk) 20:02, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- It's correct, the finnish language sources treat the subject as neutraly as possible. Plus everything I've read indicates the subject is grey, not either or. :) Why solve this issue on my page instead of Talk:Simon Ekpa, why ping everybody every where when there is already a place to talk? Kennet Mattfolk (talk) 20:12, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- Glad you agree with me on the context. I don't imply to solve this dispute on your page but wished to get clarification which I have gotten. There's no need to ping Gråbergs Gråa Sång anyways. I am opening a talk on that on this self-declared stuff and you would see it. We resolved the dispute of Prime Minister and Leader and this shall also get resolved. It is all about understanding.
