Misery...

Hello, My name is Gary and I have been playing drums in the band "Misery" from Minneapolis for 24 years, we have noticed you had a role in deleting us from our wiki entry and would like to tell you that we are quite active as a band and are on our 16th release of our music, our 17th album will be out and available to the public by the end of 2010, we have had the same members for 21 years. I guess we would ask that you reverse your descision due to the fact that we are in fact a living and active band. If not, then you can just ignore our part in history and pretend that we are just a figment of others (mass mind control) and these fine people have never heard, purchased or seen a live perfomance by us, Well we just olayed 2 weeks ago so I guess we don't exist in your mind.

Truth be told, I'm was away for a bit as well, due to multiple complications; the main was that my computer has had many issues. I believe my drive controller is acting up, and I need a new motherboard, as I'm on my 5th hard drive now, the past four all failed. The first came with the computer, the later three, all hitachis, were failing on install, and now the latest, a western digital, is failing as well. That aside..

Thanks regarding the further sock control about these two(they were dating or something and broke up, now they refuse to grow up and leave each other be). I wasn't exactly wholly transparent above, so let me be so now: At some point in time, Kagome 85 was the girlfriend of the Moukity user(I've honestly lost track of his original username). Then, later, they broke up, and each has been stalking and harassing the other on wikipedia. At first, I was helping the Moukity user escape from Kagome; I gave them the 'cleanstart' link, and gave them some pointers such as 'don't edit the same articles you use to, don't mention the other user', etc. Unfortunately, they did the exact opposite: they posted the other user's real name in several edit summaries, wikistalked them reverting all of their edits.. And eventually after I created an ANI thread on the matter, Georgewilliambert indef blocked both.

At this point in time, if I see any more socks of either, I'm going to start a ban discussion on both. I've had it that they are both unable to grow up and leave each other alone and get on with their lives.— Dædαlus ^Contribs 09:42, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

I almost forgot about something you said; the bug for transcluded special pages and page titles.. it's been fixed in the current revision.. but not in the stable release. Hi Katie, I'd like to request an undelete on your recent deletion of this image (WP:CSD#F7). This is for two reasons:

• It's the masthead, and only, image of a biography on an important motorsport and motorboat figure. Our precedent is clearly that such images are considered to fall under fair-use. If the FUR wasn't up to scratch on the image, then WP:BEFORE clearly indicates that the FUR should be fixed, not the image deleted. I've seen an awful lot of these lately - images uploaded a few years ago (so probably the more important images) with FUR that was adequate at their time of upload are being purged because they don't meet todays practice, even though it's a trivial filing exercise to bring them up to standard. This hurts the encyclopedia project.
• Secondly, it wasn't notified anywhere on the article. There are templates for notifying this on the page, there's a talk: page too. Many people, myself included, have articles like this on their watch lists but we don't have every constituent image watched. Now whilst policy doesn't demand this, it would clearly be a helpful and appropriate action to place some notification onto the article, especially when it's the masthead that's under threat.

Thanks for the heads up about the AIV issue, but I wasn't reporting User:Magnagr for breaking 3RR, I was reporting him for continuing to blank a section of the induction motor article after another user put a clear final warning on his talk page for it. Logged out bots

Hi, Katie, this changed not that long ago, but we now softblock the IP when a bot is editing logged out, after an AN (or was it ANI?) discussion, and the Wikipedia:Bot policy now reflects this. Courcelles 00:57, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

My question

Hi, friendly volcano, and thank you so much for answering so quickly. I'm mainly a Spanish and French speaker, and in the Spanish language there's a wiki specialized on role-playing games (you can have a look at it, here). That wiki doesn't have footnotes activated on it and my question is how I can do that. I guess you admins know how to activate or disactivate this kind of essential function. The fact is that I'll be very soon nominated as an administrator on that wiki and I need to learn how activate references (you know: <ref>'''reference'''</ref>, activated by mean of <references/>, or {{reflist}} or other codes. I was looking into Shaolin Kempo Karate because of interest in possibly taking a class or two. It is the system taught by what appears to be a large chain of martial arts studios. I wanted to know a little about it's background, how it is viewed in the martical arts community, etc. Of course, I turned to Wikipedia as a potential source of hopefully objective information, only to find what appears to be a systematic deletion of any reference to it over a period of a couple years. So basically Wikipedia has no info on one of the most widely taught martial arts systems in the US. The reasons for deletion include references to the page not indicating the importance of the topic. Given the number of people being taught this form of martial arts, I would think it's importance was self evident. You might as well ask what is the imprtance of the rock band Uria Heap, or the TV series She Wolf of London, both of which are arguably more obscure than (and therefore of less importance than) Shaolin Kempo Karate and I can find pages on in Wikipedia on both. Response to left message of yesterday

Thanks for reply in regards to the article: Paul Martin (illustrator). I uploaded to Commons a few months ago the orphaned-unused file: BoysandPups. And just recently the file: Pups. I was actually trying to replace the file "BoysandPups" with "Pups." But, it seems that even though that old file is not in the article, it remains on Commons. I wish it could somehow be deleted. The two images are very similar but not completely the same. I cropped and edited them differently, though both images are from the same original 1931 calendar in my possession. (I initially uploaded their images from my scanner to computer before uploading them to Commons.)

In other words, I'd like the picture BoysandPups at Commons to be deleted (by an administer?), because I made a better or another version of the image. I don't know how to do this. 3RR Block

I'm coming here in good faith and I know everyone makes mistakes, I have no hard feelings and just pointing out a mistake/poor judgement as part of WP:GBU. Mistakes aren't bad especially if we learn from them. Earlier you randomly blocked me with no prior warning, after another user, User:Addihockey10 (similar user name, no relation) brought an edit war review up for User:BuckeyeDave. I was cited as violating- in future situations it would be helpful for you not to rush and doublecheck which user is disrupting Wikipedia before blocking both users, especially when one clearly states in various locations they are reverting unconstructive edits.

• First- I was at 3-4 reverts- that's boarderline 3RR at best and would better be handeled with a warning, then I could have explained my reasons at that time. Also being around the 3RR mark if my last revert was again challenged I was planning on taking it to an admin.
• Second- regardless of the number of reverts my edit summaries in the article history and discussion between myself and BuckeyeDave's clearly indicated I was reverting unconstructive edits with major Copyvio, lack of sourcing, and POV issues, of which Copyvio is one of the major exemptions to 3RR.

I've never been blocked before or even warned that I was close to a block until you started randomly handing them out earlier. I'm hopeful that it was a mere inconvenience and the block doesn't become a black mark when I apply for adminship in the future or for the reviewer and autopatrolled rights I currently have. 2010 PTS

Can you please lower the protection on 2010 PTS as there isn't an edit war going on. Its just Dj258 keeps vandalizing the article by adding tropical depressions that have not formed. Eg this edit in which he claims the JTWC monitored a tropical depression for just two hours, but isnt backed up by any relaible sources as the JTWC numbers their tropical depressions. Also here in this edit he reckons Tropical Depression 20W has formed but there has been no advisories on it by the warning centers.Jason Rees (talk) 01:34, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your clarification. I know this image is in the public domain, as the company has let me use it before. I am a rolling paper collector and have placed it within a video. How would I go about placing it back on the page, for I think it is a significant aspect of the brand, and their most iconic culture image... Hello

Reference Facility Management edit: It appears KrakatoaKatie did some severe pruning of the entry. Not saying it did not need it but we are left with a very poor reference to a discipline that is normally the second biggest cost to a business after staffing. It is almost worthless now. One end of the operational spectrum may be cleaning a blocked toilet but at the other there is the emergency planning process, in place to protect the lives of potentially thousands of people in the event of fire or terrorist attack.

The size of Wim Crusio's Wiki page

Hello Katie,

As of December 22nd, 2010 the Wim Crusio Wiki page constituted 28,725 bytes of information, where as the Wiki page for Ernest Rutherford, "The father nuclear physics" and winner of the nobel prize, only has a Wiki page of 27,302 bytes as of December 22nd, 2010, and Maurice Wilkins who won the nobel prize for his co-discovery of the structure of DNA has a wiki page of only 23,014 bytes, while Elizabeth Blackburn who won the nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2009 has only 11,065 bytes on her wiki page. I could add many more names of nobel prize winners, but if you wish to do so, please feel free to compare the amount of information in Wim Crusio's wki page to that of most nobel prize winners. I just thought I would point this fact out to the wiki community and ask for your comments on Win Crusio's Wiki page. Please comment on weather you think it is too large and perhaps should be reviewed or if you think the wiki pages of Ernest Rutherford and many of his fellow nobel prize winners are simply too small. Based upon the above data, it would appear that a certain amount of information on Wim Crusio's wiki page was added by a sock puppet that he created in order to promote him self. I can only suggest this based on what I see from the data. I can not imagine how else Wim Crusio can have a wiki page more than twice the size of the average Nobel Laureates in Physiology or Medicine for the last 8 years. I hope this is not the case, but I welcome your thoughts on this. I only ask one thing, and that is to explain how Wim Crusio's wiki should be more than twice the size of any of the Nobel Laureates in Physiology or Medicine for the last 8 years and twice the size of an average winner of that prize. Your forced deletion of my images

Hi--

You have apparently forced deletion of a couple of the images I uploaded. One is File:10-inch-1896-DC.jpg and the other is File:12-Inch-Mortar-M1908.jpg.

I'm kinda new here (have written only about 25 articles) and did not realize one's images could be removed without any direct warning (I come around and check my user page infrequently during the holidays).

I doubt that there is any problem with (c)--I use mostly government images or ones published before 1920. Trouble is, now I can't even call up the images' description pages to check.

Could you please restore these so that I can deal with whatever criticisms of my work have been made?

• • The image 10-inch-1896-DC.jpg comes from the archives of an organization called the Coast Defense Study Group (CDSG.org), and was distributed to me (one of its members) by them. The image 12-Inch-Mortar-M1908 comes from a publication entitled The Military History of Boston's Harbor Islands, by Gerald Butler, Arcadia Publishing, 2000. I am using it with permission of the author, but I believe this is beside the point. I believe the important factor, from a copyright perspective, is that both these photos were almost certainly made by the U.S. Army (the Coast Artillery Corps). The first was likely taken about 1915-1920 and the second about 1943. How would you, or WP, like me to handle this? If I should add this information somewhere, please tell me where.

Thanks for the contact. With 40 years in the business and a degree in the subject I am sure I could write a brief introduction on the subject and list the many of the key disciplines associated with FM, linking these to other entrys (it could be a mammoth task), however I did look back at the (many) edits and it was a bit depressing. The problems with FM are that there are so many variations and so many companies trying to muscle in, as you explained reference the mops. I am sure any work I put in would soon be modified by others with differing views or with an agenda. Perhaps one of the FM institutes should get involved with this one? Would it be OK to ask the institute I am a memeber of to consider getting involved with editing the entry? Is this within the ethos of Wikipedia or is it discouraged?

Katie - sorry me again. Still reading the instructions and noted your comments. One other piece of advice please. We are parted by a rather large bit of water called the Atlantic so sitting in the UK we do have a common purpose but slightly different regulations, etc. Many of the cross references that would be useful in the FM entry are on Wiki such as Building Regulations and Planning Permission but are specific to the UK therefore, the USA/rest of world readers would be a bit confused. Also many other references to things such as the control of legionella, asbestos management, etc. can be reference to a whole series of freely available approved codes of practice in the UK but again this would not work for the non UK reader. Hi, can you look this over for me. The IP has returned to remove valid cleanup edits (yet again). He watches this page like a hawk -- and has for the past few years. Any attempt to discuss anything with him results in him switching IPs and undoing the changes again. He has prevented cleanup of this page for several years now and has chased several editors away from it. There's some frustration with this noted on the talk page, and lots in edit summaries going back several hundred edits. ThemFromSpace 10:14, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
