Remove user right

Hello Katie! Thank you for accepting my previous permission request, however I would like to, at least temporarily, remove my reviewing rights. I haven't reviewed an edit in quite a while and I feel guilty because I am kind of hat collecting. Thank you, Dat GuyTalkContribs 11:54, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

@Xaosflux: As I've resigned the permission in good standing, will I need to have another editor evaluate me and choose between accepting or decline? Or can they just restore it? Dat GuyTalkContribs 13:24, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
@DatGuy: You can ask me or ask at PERM. Unless you've done something awful in the interim, we'll restore it :-) Katietalk 15:09, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

Disruptive user vandalizing the Electoral Systems Template

Hello KrakatoaKatie,

User:BalCoder is vandalizing the Electoral Systems Template again. Sometimes this user edits while logged out in order to avoid getting blocked due to edit-warring. Please help me police this article. Ontario Teacher BFA BEd (talk) 18:09, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Not going to 'help you police' anything. He's not vandalizing. Keep your discussion centralized in the appropriate places. Katietalk 20:38, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

I edited Calvin Johnson's page saying he was retired and then you put it back to the original version. Espn has already announced the he is retiring

@Matthewagilmore: For this purpose, ESPN is not a reliable source. The Lions have to confirm it, and because the rosters won't unlock until after the Super Bowl, they can't confirm it for at least eight more days. It will likely take longer because of Johnson's contract and the salary cap. Katietalk 23:23, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

User:Nauriya autopatrol?

Hello. I recently patrolled several of User:Nauriya's pages recently created (mostly un-marked stubs), and found several syntax, punctuation, spelling errors in three of the four pages I looked at. I think you should take another look at this user's contributions and reconsider the "autopatrolled" right. Just a heads up. I respect your ultimate decision, and thank you for your time. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 14:32, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

@GenQuest: Thanks for the message. The style and copyediting can be fixed. We're concerned mainly with notability and spam with this user right. If we rejected every new page written by non-native English speakers, we'd be poorer for it. That said, if a problem arises, let me know and I'll review it. :-) Katietalk 14:36, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

User:Amirov1234567890

You overlooked my report. He is falsely changing figures of ethnic groups. [3] [4]--Krzyhorse22 (talk) 17:09, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

@Krzyhorse22: Didn't overlook it. He hasn't edited since January 30, which falls under 'stale'. It had been sitting there for more than three hours, so every admin who had acted at AIV had seen it and wasn't going to block. There was no point in it sitting there any longer. Katietalk 19:23, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
January 30 is only 2 days ago, what does that have to do with him vandalizing multiple articles? Did you notice that he is obviously a vandalism-only-account? What's the point in supporting or encouraging such vandals?--Krzyhorse22 (talk) 21:55, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
Because blocks are deterrents, and there's nothing to deter.
Let's look at his contributions again. He has three edits in 2016, with the other two on January 9. In his last 2015 edit, he engaged with Caballero1967, who replied and asked him to removing sourced content. There's no ongoing threat to the encyclopedia from this editor at the moment.
This seems to be a guy who doesn't understand the difference between verifiability and truth. (My husband has the same problem.) He may be an SPA, but that's not necessarily vandalism. Vandalism is malicious, and he's not malicious.
Though he's not to the IDHT level yet, that could change, but right now it's not blockable. I will not put my tools on the line to block this user at present, and I can't think of any admin who will. You're welcome to try and find one, but it won't be me. If that offends you, too bad. Katietalk 22:47, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
Why are you being mean to me? Are you saying you don't want to block Amirov1234567890 because he reminds you of your husband? You're a very strange admin.--Krzyhorse22 (talk) 10:05, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
I put in a personal anecdote to show you that people who don't edit the encyclopedia regularly often don't understand that verifiability, not truth, is the standard. I did not personally attack you – you asked for an explanation and I gave it to you. As I said, if you don't like it, that's too bad. You're welcome to ask another administrator. Unless the editor in question returns and begins to actually vandalize or disrupt, I'm done here. Katietalk 13:24, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

Rola

Hello KrakatoaKatie,

I am messaging you because I was notified that you deleted my edits. I am no longer able to edit this page, and am writing to you on behalf of Rola, as I am part of her management team. I would like to request that Wikipedia refrains from posting any information regarding her dad because not only is it a very controversial topic, but it is also defaming to her character. In addition, some of the information written on that page is incorrect. We would appreciate it if you could cooperate with us and remove this information permanently from wikipedia.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.12.63.34 (talk) 05:38, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello KK I added a header so this wouldn't get lost in the thread above and here Rola (model) (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) are the links to the article in question. MarnetteD|Talk 05:44, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
I just had a thought. Since the IP editor is saying they are part of a company, her management team, shouldn't the IP be blocked on grounds of WP:COI or WP:Advert? CrashUnderride 07:14, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
@Crash Underride: A COI isn't necessarily a blockable thing, but if the subject of the article has problems with it and is alleging defamation, they need to contact OTRS. Otherwise, despite being a BLP, it's removing referenced material. @180.12.63.34: Please read WP:AUTOPROB. However, the material you're seeking to remove is well-referenced with several citations from reliable sources, and any allegations of defamation could be construed as a legal threat. I don't think that's what you're doing here, but you need to understand that legal threats aren't tolerated. Katietalk 13:15, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
Hi again KK. To the best of my knowledge (unless something has changed in the last couple weeks) pings don't work for IPs. This one hasn't edited since their post here so that might be the end of things. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 15:47, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

U2fan01

Hi Katie. In the discussion close you made here, in fairness to U2fan01, I should point out that the agreement does not require U2fan01 to discuss every edit on the talk page, just the ones related to The Beatles because those pages are on my watchlist. It's fine with me to leave the close as it is, but I don't want U2fan01 to think he/she has to discuss every edit on every article. Since I'm trying to stay off his talk page, I don't want to try to explain it to him/her. Whatever you think is best is OK with me. Thanks. Sundayclose (talk) 15:26, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

SP

Hello Katie, imho you did the right thing [10] (hear! hear!), you checked already I guess but I noted that his indef block on his native WP looked like because of SP [11], seems to be this account [12] (for this first account I cannot understand the reason). This earlier account was blocked several times locally [13] and visited the EN WP to ask people to have his block unblocked [14], saying he was "blocked by mistake", which is (statistically speaking at least) very likely untrue. Also this recent edit summary part ".. you can block the IP vandals, but not me .." [15] gives me some red flags (okay maybe today he is pissed off because he didnt get it). Horseless Headman (talk) 19:25, 8 February 2016 (UTC).

@Horseless Headman: I don't know what to do about this guy. Part of me says he's a bit simplistic and just doesn't speak English, but that Lithuanian WP block is for 'unconstructive criticism, not learning from mistakes' and was extended for harassment. In other words, WP:TEND crossed with WP:IDHT with a liberal dosing of WP:NPA. It's compounded here at en because he just don't make no sense, and I don't know if that's intentional or due to a language barrier. I'll leave it up to you about the point at which he earns a trip to ANI, but ping me when you get there. ;-) Katietalk 19:51, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
  • Yes he would be fourteen years old [16]. TEND, IDHT, NPA oh boy! This one discussion seems typical [17] (and some more there actually), arguing style seems sort of confrontational and difficult to follow. Yes, I have to have a closer look when daylight returns and either take to ani (Or Drmies & following for that matter), I will ping you if I do so.
  • BTW "when you get there", "when you get there" ... rings a bell :-) [18].
@Horseless Headman: Welp, now he's creating templates. Take a look in his edit history and the corresponding little entry he made about it on his talk page. It's a good faith effort (I think) (possibly) (maybe) using the Spanish template as a guide, but he's welcoming the user in Lithuanian and referring them to the Lithuanian Wikipedia while the English text still sends them to the Spanish Wikipedia. I don't think 'Spanish' means what he thinks it means, plus we don't know if the Lithuanian text is okay or not. So I think the ANI trip is necessary now for a CIR review. Katietalk 15:14, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

Mark Clattenburg edits

Dear KrakatoaKatie,

Thank you for keeping the information on wikipedia accurate and on topic.

I appreciate that you have taken out the most obviously inaccurate or biased text in the Mark Clattenburg article. However, I would respectfully ask that you reconsider my edits. I have taken pains to ensure that the summary reflects accurate, reported events in his career with the appropriate references, which also presents a balanced view of the biography of the person in question.

Appeal to short block

At AIV, I appealed [21] for a longer block than the 72 hours you had imposed. The helper bot has wiped that away as already closed. So I'll just leave this here. I suggest that Lilhuncho is a vandalism-mostly account, prolifically adding joke/hoax credits to music articles, and needs an indefinite retirement. Willondon (talk) 06:43, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

@Willondon: We don't give indefinite blocks for vandalism-mostly accounts. There's a process and we'll go through it. If he resumes again, the next block will likely be for a week. After that, if he's still at it, I'll consider a nothere block. Katietalk 18:55, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

How come you dont agree on Jama Aden page?

Hi,

thanks for your contribution to wikipedia. You wrote: "This is contentious, terribly written, and mostly sourced with Swedish references, and must be rewritten to comply with WP:BLP)" when removing text on Jama Aden web site. How come you think so? I'm curious to hear of your opinion. Dhuwan (talk) 22:48, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

@Dhuwan: See WP:BLP. Here is the version I removed. The very first line in the material claims that the subject of the article 'got (this person) and (that person) suspended for doping violation'. That's a serious claim, referenced with something in Swedish, which we can't verify easily, and the sentence structure is awful. There aren't complete sentences - just sentence fragments. One paragraph has a reference to a tweet, which isn't a reliable source. And that's just for starters. It looks like it's written by someone who cannot speak English.
Now I see there's an edit war over it, in which I will not participate. I do not disagree that there is controversy about this man's coaching, but that section is awful and must be rewritten to comply with our BLP policy. Katietalk 23:42, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate. You are right in many ways. But it is referenced to texts in French and English (and apparently Swedish). Saying two of his athletes were suspended for doping violations. I find it clear and honest. I haven't thought of it as "sentence fragments" as you do, but more of as a compilation of facts. Myself I have added few things now. Lets see how this end... Please improve the language if you feel like. I agree there is an edit war, you might have noticed that the person himself (Jama Aden) writes there. (Or more correct someone saying he is Jama Aden.) All people removing seems to lack experience of Wikipedia (except you).Take care and good luck editing Dhuwan (talk) 08:55, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

@Dhuwan: Saying he got someone suspended (meaning he was the driving force behind the investigation and punishment) and saying someone he coached was suspended are two entirely different things. I hope you understand the difference. We have to be careful in what we say about living people, and I think that's what the IP editor was upset about. I'm not going to edit the article any further - I acted in an administrative capacity after a report of vandalism. Keep our biographies of living persons policy in mind as you edit. Katietalk 14:56, 19 February 2016 (UTC)
@KrakatoaKatie: Thanks a lot for your patience. I agree it is a difference. I agree we should be careful. In this specific case I think the truth is he "got them" but that is not a fact (yet) and we should therefore be careful using that kind of hard statements. Thanks again for learning me some new things... I'm not so much into Wikipedia, but sponsor it with some money. May I ask you a question. Was it that someone told you to look at this case because it could be a case of vandalism? Is it hidden who that user could be in that case (or open)? I ask since I didnt know this function was there on wikipedia. Probably a good invention... Dhuwan (talk) 16:19, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

Vikings

Hello Katie, you messaged me about the edit war at Vikings (Season 4). Since AlexTheWhovians and mine opinion differ, if you have the time, can you give me a third perspective on the matter. Basically he's not accepting that the episode itself could be a source for the cast list and I think it can be a source, because of the end credits of the episode at which everyone referred to at the reccuring cast are listed by the actor's name and of the characters they are potraying. After all the show itself is the best source for the show. I'll be happy to hear your opinion, anyway thanks. Hello KK. Here is the link that B was trying to leave. Britty192 articles get unsourced birth dates and places quite often. I don't think they qualify for R/D but KK will be able to clarify that one way or the other. Cheers to you both. MarnetteD|Talk 01:39, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
Oops my mistake. I didn't go back far enough in looking at the edit history. Apologies to you both. MarnetteD|Talk 01:41, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
@Britty192 and MarnetteD: I admittedly erred on the side of caution with this one because with the date and the content of the edit summary, I wasn't sure of the edit's intent. Could have been benign but better on the safe side. We do indeed get unsourced birth dates and places in BLPs every day. Usually it's not a concern (other than the 'unsourced' part, of course), so (wags her finger) no running to me every single time you see an unsourced birthdate. It had better be good, missies.  :-) Katietalk 01:59, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

That's alright but because it is a bad libel or unsourced BLP material enough to ask you to RevDel on an article on Julie Higginson anyway i better keep an libel where it's not concerning. Keep you the good work. Britty192 (talk) 02:58, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Rollback rights

Hi Katie, would it be possible for you to consider my request for rollback rights? I would really like to try out Huggle and have been doing quite a bit of counter-vandalism recently. Thanks! LoudLizard (📞 | contribs | ) 15:57, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

@LoudLizard: Not until you have a demonstrable track record of counter-vandalism work, which I still do not see. One edit to AIV is not "a lot of counter-vandalism." Revert them, warn them, report them when necessary or request page protection. That's counter-vandalism work. You can use Twinkle to do all that or you can do it manually (I had to do it all manually, but I'm, like, old, and I didn't get rollback until my RFA passed because it wasn't separated out then).
It's not enough to be trusted for this permission. It's handed out only to revert vandalism. I never used Huggle (though my user page was designed by the guy who wrote it) and I understand that rollback is necessary for part of it to function, but until we see that history of dealing with the vandalz, I can't give it to you. I will give you pending changes reviewer, but I want you to take the time to read that policy and guidelines before you request it. You don't have to go to PERM - just ask here. Katietalk 16:31, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
