My word, sir, I take quite offense to that. Why would I vandalize this fine young lady's page? I dare say I'm quite over her, especially now that I have a fiancee, wot wot. I have money to count, guns to polish, 'umies to waaagh, etc etc, so I'll leave this rabble now. Fair use rationale for Image:Homerun_poster.jpg
editThanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Homerun_poster.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 16:19, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

- It's been really tough getting back in the mood; in the past spending too much time was a problem. But now seems ripe though! It definitely has changed; 'twas a bit sad reading stuff about the Wikipedian community (as well as the Singaporean subcommunity) in both the local and world news but not being in it. Thanks for your intervention in this matter. I'm very new at this, and you've been around a long time, and so I value both your judgment and your knowledge of the way things are/have been. I think there might be a little bit more of the vandal in this young man's character than you may have seen -- I'm extremely pessimistic about the possibility of getting anything useable from his contributions -- but I would like to think that one of the guiding principles of Wikipedia is that we try to include everyone, and I feel a little bad that I didn't try harder to include this individual. I wish you well in working with him, if you care to, and if there's something I can do to be of assistance, in this respect or in any other, you have but to ask. Singapore girls school
editThe reason I removed the earring comment is because it has been changed back and forth several times over the past couple months. Rather than there being ongoing flip-flopping, I removed it; surely there is a dress code posted on the school's website that could be used to source this. As for the bra comment, I originally got involved with this page because someone was spreading their fetish across wikipedia like mustard across a delicious, delicious ham sandwich; ergo, I've taken a dim view of those whose exclusive actions on wikipedia are to focus on the color of sports bras in Singaporean girls' schools. The page gets an unduly amount of attention on those particular items. WLU (talk) 22:33, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, but the bra colour issue was in the national news a while ago -- in some schools, if one wore one of a forbidden colour, the bra was confiscated (and the student is supplied with a replacement -- or in some cases, none at all). It's not so much as a fetish issue as one that has hit national attention. The entire revert war is rather trivial, anyhow. I've never attended NYGH, but I am sure it can be easily sourced, if it is worth the bother. Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 23:50, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- And if fetish boy had added said national news story, I would have wikified his work and let it be, but he (or she) just kept spamming redundant, unnecessary info about bras. The user in question had mostly edits to S&M pages and many other contributions were just adding spurious info about bras and sports bras to various pages related to Singaporean girls wearing uniforms. Anyway, the revert war over the earrings was what I was referring to above, I don't really care either way but the fact that people keep saying earrings are allowed/no they're not means (in my mind) the info should stay out until it's sourced. That whole bra thing would be actually a good addition were any news stories to mention NYGH specifically, so I might even google it. Huzzah! For once I'm adding content rather than just editing pre-existing! Thanks for the clarification of the issue, it actually explains things somewhat. WLU (talk) 00:02, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
- Stymied! No dress code appears to be on-line extant, which seems odd. Anyway, if you feel strongly that the earring or bra info should stay up, I don't feel so strongly as to argue about it. Thanks for the clarification though. WLU (talk) 00:11, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

- Oh interesting. I never checked the contribs of our anonymous contributor. The news story was while ago (a year I think), and as I recall, the schools involved weren't identified but there was strong suspicion one of them was NYGH. I need to google this again. Anyway, since I know some people from NYGH, I might go ask them. Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 00:19, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, without a reliable source beyond off-line people from NYGH, the revert wars may linger like a dead woodchuck under the porch. Though you could probably cite any material sent home with said students... On-line sources are my preference, but paper still works. I don't care either way about earrings or bras, I just don't want fetish-boy mustarding all over wikipedia (blatant plug of my essay) and the reverting is just kinda silly. The discussion came up in a few last comments to the contention, whether Wikipedia allows to present a controversy in a neutral manner, or - not. My point has been that NPOV allows it in the sentence "Debates within topics are described, represented and characterized...". Also, WP:LEAD explicitly advocates "briefly describing its [topic's] notable controversies", which "Holocaust revisionism" definitely is. Do you think that an opposition to unprotecting Auschwitz has been defeated successfully, so it can actually be implemented, or they just abandoned the discussion at Wp:an#Auschwitz (& in general) lengthily protection violates policy, please? Sincerely, -70.18.5.219 (talk) 20:57, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- As the protecting admin, I will comment: The article Auschwitz concentration camp and some other articles, mainly but not exclusively related to the holocaust, have in the past been the targets of persistent, ongoing and offensive vandalism by unregistered users. The object of the protection is to prevent this. Any registered editor who has been a wikipedia member for a few days can edit this article. I see no reason to allow vandals to do so. The policy to indefinitely protect this and related articles was agreed by community consensus after extensive discussion, and I see no reason why this decision should be questioned at this time. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 21:06, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello fellow Wikipedia administrators open to recall category member! |
---|
I am leaving you this message because recent events have given me concern. When Aaron Brenneman and I, and others, first developed this category well over a year ago, we visualized it as a simple idea. A low hassle, low bureaucracy process. We also visualized it as a process that people would come to trust, in fact as a way of increasing trust in those admins who chose to subscribe to the notion of recall. The very informal approach to who is qualified to recall, what happens during it, and the process in general were all part of that approach. But recent events have suggested that this low structure approach may not be entirely effective. More than one of the recent recalls we have seen have been marred by controversy around what was going to happen, and when. Worse, they were marred by some folk having the perception, rightly or wrongly, that the admin being recalled was trying to change the rules, avoid the process, or in other ways somehow go back on their word. This is bad. It's bad for you the admin, bad for the trust in the process, and bad for the community as a whole. I think a way to address this issue is to increase the predictability of the process in advance. I have tried to do that for myself. In my User:Lar/Accountability page, I have given pretty concrete definitions of the criteria for recall, and of the choices I can make, and of the process for the petition, and of the process for other choices I might make (the modified RfC or the RfAr). I think it would be very helpful if other admins who have voluntarily made themselves subject to recall went to similar detail. It is not necessary to adopt the exact same conditions, steps, criteria, etc. It's just helpful to have SOME. Those are mine, fashion yours as you see fit, I would not be so presumptuous as to say mine are right for you. In fact I urge you not to just adopt mine, as I do change them from time to time without notice, but instead develop your own. You are very welcome to start with mine if you so wish, though. But do something. If you have not already, I urge you to make your process more concrete, now, while there is no pressure and you can think clearly about what you want. Do it now rather than later, during a recall when folk may not react well to perceived changes in process or commitment. Further, I suggest that after you document your process, that you give a reference to it for the benefit of other admins who may want to see what others have done. List it in this table as a resource for the benefit of all. If you use someone else's by reference rather than copy, I suggest you might want to do as Cacharoth did, and give a link to a specific version. Do you have to do these things? Not at all. These are suggestions from me, and me alone, and are entirely up to you to embrace or ignore. I just think that doing this now, thinking now, documenting now, will save you trouble later, if you should for whatever reason happen to be recalled. I apologise if this message seems impersonal, but with over 130 members in the category, leaving a personal message for each of you might not have been feasible, and I feel this is important enough to violate social norms a bit. I hope that's OK. Thanks for your time and consideration, and best wishes. Larry Pieniazek NOTE: You are receiving this message because you are listed in the Wikipedia administrators open to recall category. This is a voluntary category, and you should not be in it if you do not want to be. If you did not list yourself, you may want to review the change records to determine who added you, and ask them why they added you. |
...My guinea pigs and the "A"s through "K"s having felt this message was OK to go forward with (or at least not complained bitterly to me about it :) ), today it's the turn of the "L"s through "O"s! I'm hoping that more of you chaps/chapettes will point to their own criteria instead of mine :)... it's flattering but a bit scary! :) Also, you may want to check back to the table periodically, someone later than you in the alphabet may have come up with a nifty new idea. ++Lar: t/c 00:04, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

BISMUN Deletion
editFirst of all I will say that it is not my school. Secondly, I don't see how you can say that it is not warranted since it does not fit on the Model UN page. It is a description of a current MUN conference, not a description of what MUN actually is. There is a page consisting of the Harvard MUN conference, why not the Bath one considering it is the largest conference in the UK. editThank you for uploading Image:OutramMRT surroundings.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

Conflicts in Ming Dynasty
editHi, La goutte de pluie. Could you please have a look at the article Ming Dynasty? I pasted a map, ming_1443.png, drawn by Sinomap Press, ISBN 7503103841. However there are some guys who don't agree with the position of Tibet in the map, even though I cited plenty of sources to prove that Tibet was in Ming China at that period. The discussion is in deadlock at present, I beg you to make a judgment in the article, please just stay neutral! Thanks!--LaGrandefr (talk) 11:03, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use Image:OutramMRT_surroundings.JPG
editThanks for uploading Image:OutramMRT_surroundings.JPG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add

, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 14:40, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Image:Trapped underground.jpg
editA tag has been placed on Image:Trapped underground.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [2], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:
- state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
- add the relevant copyright tag.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Polly (Parrot) 23:36, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Image:Weiqi-xlmd.PNG
editA tag has been placed on Image:Weiqi-xlmd.PNG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.
Duplicate Image:Weiqi-Xlcb.PNG
editHello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Weiqi-Xlcb.PNG, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Weiqi-Xlcb.PNG is a duplicate of an already existing article, category or image.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Weiqi-Xlcb.PNG, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 01:40, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
Image permission problem with Image:Safnationalstadium.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Safnationalstadium.jpg, which you've sourced to http://www.mindef.gov.sg/images/01jul2002_safday03_big.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 20:40, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

NowCommons: File:Metaphase.png
editFile:Metaphase.png is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Metaphase.png. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: . Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 10:53, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:PAPcandidates 1959.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:PAPcandidates 1959.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 07:34, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Weiqi-alcb.PNG
editA tag has been placed on File:Weiqi-alcb.PNG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. editI noticed that you have revised either Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri or Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire.
I intend to revise those articles following the Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Article guidelines. There are more details on the discussion pages of those articles. I'd be interested in any comments you have. It would be best if your comments were on the discussion pages of the two articles.
Thank you.
