editYour username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).
A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.
You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:
- Adding
{{unblock-un|your new username here}}
on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page. - At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
- Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
- Adding
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Peridon (talk) 22:05, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Speedy deletion nomination of Langley Federal Credit Union
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Langley Federal Credit Union requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - Here are a few key questions:
- Do you understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and not a business directory?
- Do you understand conflict of interest?
- Do you understand that to be considered for an encyclopedia article, the subject must be notable?
You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Max Semenik (talk) 15:16, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
- As a long-time user and supporter of Wikipedia, I am well aware it is not a business directory or promotional mechanism. I'm aware that content is editable by the community of Wikipedia contributors, and I'm confident that their information about the topic will also be consistent with the principles of an encyclopedia. It is my intention to fully comply.
- I have read and understand Wikipedia's article on conflict of interest. One cannot know the topic of credit unions without being keenly sensitive to the notion of community, of service. Credit unions are a community of members self-managing their money. Similarly, Wikipedia is a community of editors self-managing their words. Self-interest is not part of the mission.
- The entire reason for the submission was because of the noteworthiness of the subject. Based on size of the institution, its longevity -- especially in the context of the credit union movement which began in the United States less than 30 years earlier -- and its coincidence with the entire span of America's aeronautics and space programs, it is an eminently rich subject for an encyclopedia article.
It is my intention to conform to the principles and policies of Wikipedia. I understand there may be remaining issues with the first article I submitted, and I will continue to bring the content into conformity with Wikipedia's practices and style. Langleyfcu (talk) 16:39, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
- Ok, so you understand that as a Wikipedia editor, you agree to not write articles about topics that are related to the organization you work for or represent? (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 17:14, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Yes. Langleyfcu (talk) 17:56, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
- What topics are you intending to contribute to articles on? Nick-D (talk) 23:33, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
I don't know. Langleyfcu (talk) 18:45, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
- Do you understand why the Langley Federal Credit Union article was speedily deleted, and what will you do differently in the future? Hint: it wasn't due to promotional content, COI, or notability. Dori ☾Talk ⁘ Contribs☽ 10:46, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
Right now, I'm attempting to resolve the initial issue that was raised -- that of the login name -- and I haven't looked much further at the content. I suspect an issue exists with the similarity between my content and the content on the referenced source. There was also an issue with the uploaded logo, which I had permission to upload, and declared as such when I did. (I do understand and respect copyright.) I also understand Wikipedia's policy prohibiting approved material, and I attempted to correct that. Not sure if it's still an issue. I probably should not have started with a first article at code level, but what can I say? Programmers code and tend to avoid Wizards. I expect I should try it though. The instructional material so far has been thick, but useful. At what point will the initial issue be resolved? 18:45, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
