GA Review

First, thank you Eric for taking the time to review the article LeSean McCoy. Your suggestions and comments are much appreciated as I am currently a new Wikipedia editor. And yes, I am going to review your comments and make the changes necessary to make the article a Good Article. So, you can keep the article open and I will make the changes ASAP. There is one question I do have though. How would I cite the articles correctly so they are not considered bare urls. As, mentioned above this was my first article editing and tried my best to follow the code. Thanks for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PhillySportsGuru25 (talkcontribs) 23:31, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

No problem. I'm impressed that you're taking your very first article through the GA process. Most people contribute quite a bit before working toward their first GA. This is going to be a lot of work for just a few days time, but I didn't want to close the nomination without giving you a chance to make corrections. For reference help, make sure to look at WP:REFB as suggested in the review. You might also look at some of the sports articles that have been promoted to GA. Some articles use citation templates to make referencing easier, while other articles do not. Looking at a few sports GAs would help you to see how they do their references, but it would also allow you to look at the structure and the writing in those articles. Like I said in the review though, worry about those references last. EricEnfermero HOWDY! 06:40, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Hey Eric. Just wanted to update you on my progress. I have finished editing the content of LeSean McCoy based off of your suggestions. The only update left is to correct all of the sources. I have started that but I may not have the time to finish all of them in the next few days. Since this is my first time, I do not know exactly how the process all works but hopefully I fulfilled the criteria so the McCoy can become a good article. Again, thanks for your time.
Thanks for letting me know. I have a family Christmas thing tonight but will take a look ASAP - hopefully by the morning. I will go back to the review page for this article and leave any comments there. That way all the discussion stays in one place. Sometimes other editors even see the review in progress and will come to help with the article. I will mark each bullet point in the review as either done or not done and then I'll leave any additional comments that I have. Thanks! EricEnfermero HOWDY! 23:33, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Hey Eric. Just another quick update. I got some helping fixing the bare url's. All of them all now fixed and the tag has been removed. PhillySportsGuru25 (talk) 03:25, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

Eric, Phillysportsguru25 - let me know if you need any help. I would be happy to work on the article of the king of my fantasy team :-), and have pretty significant GA experience. Let me know what needs done. Go Phightins! 23:41, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Hello, Go Phightins. I am the nominator of LeSean McCoy. This was my first article edit and I put major work into this project. Currently, Eric made suggestions to improve the article and I made the revision. You could take a look and see if anything else is needed, but Eric has done a great job of reviewing. Thanks! User:PhillySportsGuru25 —Preceding undated comment added 23:53, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Ratings

Eric, Is it possible that the following articles could be rated: Sam Hoyt and Muriel A. Howard. Do you do ratings, or could you refer these articles on for ratings? Thanks, Daniellagreen (talk) 14:43, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

I usually don't rate articles, except to bump them from Stub to Start-class or to pass them as Good Articles. I'm not as good at the distinctions in between, like B-class or C-class. There are general criteria and sometimes within a given WikiProject you'll find people who are good at rating articles of a certain type. For example, when I expand baseball articles, there's an editor who often comes along and updates the ratings. I would say both of your examples are at least Start and I can't imagine anyone objecting if you changed the ratings accordingly. Beyond that, I am less sure. EricEnfermero HOWDY! 15:23, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for your information. I'll give that a go. I am also interested in the same for the articles, Jack Quinn (politician) and Dennis Vacco. I will keep working on those to add more references before making an rating changes.
Since you are working on biographies, you should check out WP:BIOG/A. I didn't realize this rating request thing even existed until looking into your question a little bit more. EricEnfermero HOWDY! 21:11, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
Great, thanks. I reviewed it and will make a note of it. Daniellagreen (talk) 05:17, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

To fall under that category on Wikipedia, they have to self-identify as LGBT or there has to be a reliable source that confirms their sexuality. EricEnfermero HOWDY! 09:29, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
Isn't there? YOMAL SIDOROFF-BIARMSKII (talk) 22:28, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
The article mentions his sex crimes and the fact that he had male victims, but it never discusses his sexual orientation and certainly doesn't provide a sourced statement regarding his sexuality. EricEnfermero HOWDY! 22:40, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
If he raped males, doesn't that mean he was a bisexual or even gay? Also, he used the arguement of being raped by a male as a justification for his actions. Wasn't he confessing by that that he was attracted to males? YOMAL SIDOROFF-BIARMSKII (talk) 09:06, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
I know it seems like a fine line, but sexual orientation is different than a person admitting who he or she had sex with, and it's different than sexual attraction. Unless he identified as LGBT, I think we should follow the directions for that category and not include it. The current article doesn't say that Schwab confessed to anything or attempted to justify anything, but even if it did, I still think that's different than identifying as LGBT. Princeton High School

I was curious about the changes you made to my article on Princeton High School. Why did you combine the athletics with the extra-curricular activities? I feel your edit diminishes this article. I would like your take on this, thanks! Indyjrg1762 (talk) 01:06, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

We had two tiny sections in the article with separate level 2 headings. Athletics is a type of extracurricular activity. At some schools, you'll have enough content in each section that it might justify separate headings. Here it just kind of breaks up the flow of the text. With the paltry info in most HS articles, it's rare that we can create robust sections like we have now. I don't have any particular interest in this article though, and I'm okay if you feel strongly about changing it back. ("Extra" and "curricular" are definitely not separate words though.) Have a good weekend, Indyjrg1762. EricEnfermero HOWDY! 04:28, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

University of Waterloo

Hi EricEnfermero, I opted to take on the requested copyedit of University of Waterloo. It's great to see that someone is trying to bring university articles to a decent standard; this is very important when so many of them (including my alma mater) are in a very poor state.

Having said that, you were right to reject that particular article in its state at the time. I should also say I am very impressed by the care you took to make detailed criticisms of every single section, line by line. A great many GA reviews are much less careful (to say the least).

I did a copyedit first, and then went through your list of issues. Your concerns were certainly correct, because I still found a few of the same issues that you asked to be fixed.

However, having been through that process, I'm now running out of major issues to find with the article. (I haven't looked at captions or references in detail yet.) As an earlier reviewer of the article, do you think there is much more needs to be done; or, are major flaws still easy to spot?

Many thanks for your feedback. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 23:57, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your note! I felt like a terrible person during that review, piling on the line-by-line criticisms, but I am glad to learn that they were ultimately helpful in improving the entry. I appreciate you making the changes that you did. I agree that it's in a great state now. If I were reviewing it again, the only thing that would jump out at me is the time gap between the 1960s and 2000s in the History section. The original nominator commented that he was mostly using a single source for that section and it only ran through the 60s. (There are events from the 70s, 80s or 90s in other sections, so I don't know if that's even a reason to hold up the nomination.)
Outside of that, I would probably just go back and check again for close paraphrasing. I think it's pretty much ready for another nomination though. I'd be glad to take on the second review. I've not re-reviewed before, but I believe that it is permitted. Thank you for your work on this and for reaching out to me. EricEnfermero HOWDY! 01:21, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Spanish article on Clear Lake High, and question about Spanish grammar and understanding

Hi, Eric! I started es:Escuela Secundaria Clear Lake (Houston).

In the meantime, would it be alright if you check these Spanish sentences I made against the original sentences from the sources? I want to see if they have the correct meaning.

Whaddya say?

Hey Eric, from time to time I ask myself, "Hmm, who would be a good administrator that does not have the tools already?", and today, upon asking myself that question, you popped into my head. I know you don't have a ton of Wikipedia-space edits, but your AfD votes, though not a huge sample size, are predominantly in line with consensus, you are a sports editor, which means the occasional vandal to block may come your way, and you have a good AIV record too. I think you'd be a classic content admin net positive. I am more than willing to nominate should you decide this is something in which you would be interested. Let me know. Thanks! Go Phightins! 01:38, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

I really appreciate the thought, sir. Honestly, I'm still having fun with content every day. I'd rather continue to focus on expanding and sourcing content for now. I think that I might find the tools to create more stress than anything else. Again though, I am flattered by the offer. EricEnfermero HOWDY! 02:04, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
Well, let me know if you ever change your mind, but I certainly respect your decision. Happy content editing :-) Go Phightins! 02:07, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Kaline

This whole HOF article needs to be tightened up. If you love Kaline, please do it! :) Best wishes Learner001 (talk) 00:29, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

In the process of doing so, actually. I'm trying to get every HOF member's article above Start-class. EricEnfermero HOWDY! 00:32, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your consideration! --Another Believer (Talk) 20:48, 11 May 2014 (UTC)

Jeff Schneider

Thanks for your offer to help with Jeff Schneider. I addressed SportsGuy17's concerns, expanding the lead and further dividing the article. Source 1 has Schneider himself saying he wanted to play basketball; I guess he just was not ready to concentrate on one sport.

The biggest reason I wanted feedback was because I was unable to dig up much information on Schneider's personal life. I did include the quote towards the end of the article about what he did after his career, but I didn't think that was enough to merit its own section. Other than that, I do not believe there is any more information available about his personal life. Do you think this could still be a good article, even with the absence of any further information about Schneider's personal life? After all, it does cover Schneider's career completely.

Oh, and the reason I decided to work on Schneider is that he was mentioned in the book I used to write the Cal Ripken article, and I decided that must be the preeminent source of information about Schneider. It did not take long to work one, either. Oriolesfan8 (talk) 10:44, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

I think I interpret WP:WIAGA differently than some GA reviewers do. I think there should be some coverage of the subject's life outside of baseball, especially if this is someone who has received enough media coverage to establish notability. However, sometimes I think we carry that requirement a bit far. Marital status, kids, residence, military service or political office - sure, those are facts I'd like to find in an encyclopedia entry. We recently had a disagreement on another baseball GA about the personal life section. It ended up with the article including the player's favorite food (chicken parmigiana) and favorite TV show. In cases like that, I don't know that we're really doing the readers any favors.
I mention all of this to say that I prefer keeping highly trivial details out of that section, but just know that you may get a different response from another reviewer. I will see if I'm able to locate any significant personal information for Schneider. That's probably the place to start. EricEnfermero HOWDY! 23:33, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, that GAN was a bit of a struggle :-) At least it finally got reviewed; for some reason all my GANs have a propensity to languish in the backlog for months :-( Go Phightins! 19:49, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thanks for your edits to Sir Taurus. I found and added a couple more categories, Daniellagreen (talk) (cont) 01:09, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. It looks like you're going through a rough time with another editor. My suspicion is that this is something that will blow over in time. Just stay the course. EricEnfermero HOWDY! 05:33, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

Your edit count is broken

Do you know that the edit count link on you userpage doesn't work? ([1]) You may want to change it to this [2]. Piguy101 (talk) 21:36, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. I forgot about that one being based on the now-defunct Toolserver. Still not sure if I like that menu across the top of my page, but that was an easy enough fix for now. Thanks! EricEnfermero HOWDY! 11:24, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
