NZ election templates

As it is unknown how several minor parties will fare, and wikipedia is not in the prediction business, I have included all parties in both {{New Zealand election, 2011}} and {{New Zealand election - minor parties, 2011}}. Also removed Independent Chris Carter from the list of party losses, as he was elected in 2008 as a Labour candidate and the list is to record changes from election to election, not changes within a parliamentary term. Reverted your edit to template - your assertion that 33.99 to 27.48 is a change of 6.51, not 6.50 may appear mathematically correct, but these numbers have been rounded to two decimal places (three times - 2008 and 2011 results, and the 2008-11 swing) whereas my calculations are only rounded on the final result. I am a designer currently working on a booklet for Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (The Correspondance School http://www.correspondence.school.nz/). The correspondance school is a non profit organisation and the booklets are only used for educational purposes.

IPA on Whanganui

I'm not experienced in IPA, but I think the local pronunciation of Whanganui uses a 'wh' sound rather than an 'f' sound. Should the first sound be represented by 'hw' in IPA? See also Talk:Whanganui#Pronunciation-gadfium 04:39, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

The correct Maori-based pronunciation is "fa-nga-nu-i". The local pronunciation is "hwa-nga-nu-i", but there is no phonetic difference to "wa-nga-nu-i" as New Zealand English has the wine–whine merger. The same problem applies to Whangarei ("fa-nga-ray" or "hwa-nga-ray") and Whakatane ("fa-ka-ta-ne" and "hwa-ka-ta-ne"), and then all three seen to have "fo-" or "hwo-" sound instead of the prescribed "fa-" and "hwa-"

Are you saying the local English pronunciation is /wɒ/ (as in "Watt") for all three? What you gave as English at Whakatane wasn't actually English (English words do not end in /ɛ/), so I deleted that part. Whangarei is normally "fong-a-ray" and Wanganui is normally "wong-a-nu-ee" in English (double checked). Whakatane is normally "fah-ka-ta-nee" in English - in 2008 (i think) the town's own wireless prevented the town being searched because "whaka" in the phonetic spam filter sounds like "fuck-a". (Also, I don't know what the diphthongs are in Maori: in our article, we say that stress falls on the first diphthong (if there's not long vowel), but don't say what counts as a diphthong. According to the article on the Maori language, the diphthongs are ae, ai, ao, au, oi, oe, ou. The two I'm most familiar with are "ao" (/aɔ/) as in Aotearoa, close to English /aʊ/ as in "mouth"; and "au" (/aʉ/) as in Taupo and tekau (number ten), close to English /oʊ/ as in "goat". I've done a small copyedit of the article and fixed a few minor trivial points, e.g. "regional council" vs "local council" - the line passes through seven local councils (six today with the Auckland supercity), but only two regional councils (Waikato and Auckland). I also truncated the coordinates of sites to 5dp to overcome over-preciseness (5dp is within 11 metres). The Vanishing

I occasionally peruse the article Electricity sector in New Zealand, and a while back had noticed a rather roundabout way of obtaining a file that via Google Earth will locate and describe a large number of power stations, a list more comprehensive than most such as elsewhere in the article - though I have not performed an exhaustive comparison. Somewhat later, I see that this item vanished from the article. I notice from the edit log that on the 31'st March in one of your edits, the mention and link to the file PowerStations.kmz suddenly vanished, without any explanation. I've just checked the old version of the page, and the link to the file is still live, and still works, so that was not a reason for its removal. Has something been gained by its absence? From the way it was inserted it looked like a spam link, so was removed. Sorry for not explaining in the comments. We do have a list of power stations at List of power stations in New Zealand, but to prevent it getting too unwieldy is restricted to stations over 0.5MW (500kW) and stations which are notable otherwise. Spam? Did it not occur to you to check? A while back when I noticed it I poked it out of curiosity it did indeed yield up a Google Earth file with a schedule of power stations and no sign of spam, even from the Dropbox organisation supporting the delivery, and this was still the case when I tried the old version of the article: the link still works, in other words, unlike many others. So far as I can see, there remains no facility in WP to enable the direct reference to .kml or .kmz files (as is possible for photos and sound), so there seems no other way to provide such a file. I think I've seen single latitude&longitude locations being specified somewhere, though many articles that mention locations that could benefit from some such "clickable" link lack them. Such as the list of power stations. It is not difficult to find the likes of Benmore, but what of Roaring Meg? (It's not the one in the Tararuas) The file being not displayed in its article will not increase the size of the article with a large table, while those after details will be able to open the file in Google Earth and proceed. The link went dead for me because it only operates for people with Google Earth. List of power stations in New Zealand DOES include Roaring Meg (it is sorted under hydroelectric power stations).

In response, I think I will add cooridinates of power stations under "Location" on the table lists. Then, you can add a box at the top of the article that will plot all coordinates in the mapping program of the user's choice. I'll get an exemplar started now. Freeview and Igloo are brands, not providers

A provider is a company that encoded the transport the service runs on such as Sky, TVNZ, Kordia and Vodafone/TelstraClear.

Freeview is just nothing more than a bloated and over priced administration frontend and Igloo is nothing more than another retail frontend for lower paying Sky customers. Just as in Aussie, VAST, Aurora and freeview are just public facing brands administrated by Optus and FreeTV.

Also availability should have what resolution is available for the stated provider given all providers don't offer the same video/audio format.

I am just following the use of the infobox in practice. The infobox is supposed to sum up basic facts about the topic, with more detailed information left for the prose section. If you look at international channels such as BBC One, BBC Two, ITV, etc. etc., and even the New Zealand and Australian practice before you came along, they simply state the name of the service (Freeview, Sky, etc.), instead of the transmission provider (in the UK, this would be Arqiva), because the general Wikipedia audience will recognise the former more than the latter. That is the consensus, and if you wish to change things, you need to discuss it at Template talk:Infobox television channel.

First the infobox availability options were designed to be used for diffing guide channel numbers for pay TV channels that were on competing cable, fibre and satellite operators (who are providers and NOT branded packages) in the US. Which was never a good idea in terms of the general Wikipedia:NOTGUIDE policy. Outside North American free-to-air and restricted pay TV markets that use this on their channel pages seem to use these options in an even more pointless manner given FTA is obviously on terrestrial and carried on most pay TV services. It would be better to ignore these fields and include a brief line stating if the channel is solely on pay tv or is free-to-air. I was trying to make better use of this field by including more informative info and not some silly brand scoring card.

As for the H.222 tables, that is completely bogus to call it research, when it's simply info taken from a broadcast source into a wiki table form, which has absolutely no research involved. You read the same info by using the debug or extended info mode on any decent digital receiver. ie, STB, TV, etc Also using LyngSat would NOT be credible given the lousy formatting and casual sources on the site. It's needed as some providers such as on satellite may only carry SD due to bandwidth constraints or capability with SD receivers. ie, the free-to-air frequencies on satellite have neither the bandwidth or HD receiver base for such support, but Pay TV has more frequencies to put up HD, also DVB subtitles are generally not supported by SD receivers even though TV3 are using the format on the TVNZ sat service.

As for your preference of UK spellings, I'm from Canada and we mainly follow US spellings and dislike most unnecessary vowel sounds which were mainly adopted from the UK's bastardizing of French words as in colouuuur from couleur, analoguuuuueeeeee from analogique. Lorde Early Career - site of recordings incorrect

Hi. Recent edits to the paragraph in "Lorde - Early Career" now incorrectly attribute the site and events relating to the two recordings sent to Scott Maclachlan. The initial recordings that piqued Universal's interest were not recordings from the Belmont Idol school talent contest. A quick bit of research will show that she also only sang one song at that performance, so two couldn't have been recorded.

Ella & Louis had played together as a duo for some months prior, and the first two recordings sent to Universal were actual "home" audio and video recordings of Ella & Louis, recorded in the basement studio of our home. The Belmont Idol video (also recorded at the contest) was eventually seen by Universal well after these initial two demos were sent to them.

Could I suggest the following amendment ... (see Suggested Amendment below) .. or could you please revert back to the more correct and reasonably unambiguous Pre-edit Original.

I only ever sent the recordings to Universal Music New Zealand. Hi there! According to WP:RESPELL, the respelling key is used "to spell out the pronunciations of English words". In the Yulia Lipnitskaya article, however, the pronunciation you added is clearly that of her name in Russian (since "Yulia" is not pronounced "YOO-lee-ya" in English, but is in Russian). Could you please revise? I personally would prefer to see the IPA transcription (ideally, for both Russian and English), since I can never make heads or tails of these confusing respellings, but that's just me. Image favour

Lcmortensen, I've just finished creating an article about the Field hockey pitch and want to use an image like File:Hockey field metric.svg to illustrate the page, however there are a few errors (p51–52). I noticed you are still active and made the metric alterations to the original image. I was wondering if you could make a few further alterations to that image for me, all to the measurement text.

• The distance on the bottom left (4.57 m along the base) should not exist. It seems to coincide with the markings on the 23-metre and centre lines which should also not be there.
• Instances of "4.57 m" (along the sides and from circle) should be 5 m; 5 yds actually got changed to 5 m (rather than metricised).
• Similarly, the 9.14 m (10 yd) should be 10 m.
• Strangely, the pitch is not exactly split in four - the "23 m line" is 22.90 m from the bottom, and the half-way line is then 22.80 m from that.

No, I was not quite the one complaning about the emphasis problem on the talk page, I was initiating a discussion on the topic, so that we might arrive at a consensus. Making radical changes that break some tables, fill them with unnecessary text, and strip out clear information is not - in my view - anything like discussing the templates so that we may arrive at a consensus. As I said in my edit summaries, this discussion needs to take place before changes are made. And while your original edits could be taken as good faith, your latest are looking like edit warring. NZ elections result templates

There is no possible confusion between {{New Zealand general election, 2014}} and {{New Zealand election, 2014}} (or other election template years) so renaming them to disambiguate is not necessary. These templates are ordinarily not directly accessed by most observers - they are meant to facilitate the work of editors and as such they have an agreed format (including name format) that is consistent through all NZ general election, or are scheduled to be made consistent. Ex BR Mark 2 cars

Hiya

Just looked at your edit, which made me check the Fleet Equipment Diagrams, which show that the figure both before and after your edit arn't quite right. The S-Servery Diagram shows an overall height of 3614mm, and floor height of 1081mm. The SW shows height of 3580mm as you have stated, and a floor height of 996mm. SD's show as 3625mm high and Floor of 996mm. SE shows as 3647mm high, and floor of 1011 (which I am guessing is down to the S-Ride Bogies.

Not saying you are wrong as there seem to be numerous measurements depending what you base the numbers off. Where do you want to go here??
