Legobot Malfunction (single page issue)

Notifying you that Legobot keeps breaking small tags on Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Wikipedia policies and guidelines, and did not comply and fully removed the {{bots|deny=Legobot}} placed by Anomalocaris to kick the bot off the page for a while to allow this issue to be sorted out. Possible fix for Legobot "rfc top" issue

Hey.

Last year you applied a pull request from Enterprisey to Legobot, so that it would stop matching on {{rfc top}} and {{rfc bottom}}. Earlier I noticed an edit on my watchlist, where Redrose64 had to fix an RfC closure because Legobot had matched on {{rfctop}}.

I think I've found the problem with the regex in step 2 that's causing this. Unfortunately I don't have git installed on any of my devices right now to make a pull request, so I hope you'll forgive me for putting a possible solution here. On rfcbot.php line 163, if you change the regex pattern:

/\{{2}\s?Rfc(tag)?(?!\s+(top|bottom))\s?[^}]*\}{2}/i

to instead be

\{{2}\s?Rfc(tag)?[\s]?+(?!(top|bottom))\s?[^}]*\}{2}

I think it resolves the issue. The change here is that it takes the whitespace character match \s+ out of the negative lookahead, and then makes it an optional positive match. The negative lookahead then works the same as before, matching on the presence of either top or bottom. In my testing, this means it only matches on {{rfc}} and {{rfctag}}, while ignoring {{rfc top}}, {{rfc bottom}}, {{rfctop}}, {{rfc bottom}}, {{closed rfc top}}, and {{closed rfc bottom}}. This seems to be the desired behaviour. The problem with the current pattern is that it's only doing the negative lookahead capture on text with a whitespace like rfc top resulting in it still capturing text without one like rfctop.

I'm not sure if you need to also replicate these changes in the other regexs that use the same negative lookahead capture, like on lines 180, 185, 200, etc. If you do, then replacing ?(?!\s+(top|bottom)) with ?[\s]?+(?!(top|bottom)) should have the desired effect. But I've not tested this fix for all of the matches, so you'll probably want to test this first. I've only tested it with the match used at the start of step 2 (line 163).

Hope this helps. Sideswipe9th (talk) 01:35, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

User:HaleBot

Hello, Legoktm,

It looks like HaleBot is taking an extended nap. Just alerting you. Thanks for the alternative way to find empty categories, that's been very helpful during this time. Liz Read! Talk! 01:29, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

Any ideas? Liz Read! Talk! 01:46, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

I'll go look at that discussion. It looks like HaleBot is having trouble again today. I was having problems with WikiMedia's servers and edits and admin actions not going through. Maybe HaleBot needs a restart? Liz Read! Talk! 01:10, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
