Copi_(Asian_carp) entry submission
edit{Ping|Hey man im josh}}
)
Hi hey man im josh:
In regards to the redirect of the Copi (Asian carp) submission to the Asian carp#Copi renaming page: The are a couple of reasons why Copi should be its own entry. “Asian carp” is in fact only a slang name – it is not a formal name for the species. The name “Copi” has been adopted by ecologists and governmental agencies like the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), Fish and Wildlife Departments, the media (both in the U.S. and internationally), and the American restaurant and grocery store industry as the formal name of this species of carp. See the references and links in the draft entry. There are many examples on Wikipedia of similar food and fish renaming. For example, Orange Roughy, is its own unique entry because that is how the fish is now widely known, but before the name Orange Roughy it used to be called Slimehead. Other foods such as Avocado or Chilean Sea Bass, for instance, also have their own unique entry even though these names came to be only after being renamed (they used to go by other names). With that in mind, I wanted to see if you would reconsider Copi as its own entry, especially in consideration that in the coming years Copi will become a widely used and known term in the culture (on restaurant menus, in grocery stores, etc.), nationally and also in Canada and Europe and at some point someone will no doubt submit Copi again. Let me know, and thank you for your time and consideration! - Chris Leighcn (talk) 19:40, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
