Hi all, You can check out the new Garfield Community Farm page that we've started here. It is right now still a stub, of course. Llh19 (talk) 00:51, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

References

edit

Hi all, this would be a good place to share tips about referencing. You'll need to type { { reflist } } (no spaces) before Wikipedia will allow references to be posted. So far I have not found the "Help" in the editing box to be helpful for references nor the best route to take for adding references. My advice: go to another Wikipedia page that has correct references, click "edit," then copy/paste the referencing code into your own and edit from there.Llh19 (talk) 00:49, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Llh19Reply

Request for Example

edit

Hi, does anyone have a link to a good article on Wikipedia about a community? It would be helpful if my group had an example so we can focus our research and create new sections where necessary. Thanks! --Battlefield1181 (talk) 19:57, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have reviewed Talk:Shadyside_(Pittsburgh)#Review, focusing on the Manual of Style issues. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:16, 17 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Today I have found time for Talk:Children's_Institute_of_Pittsburgh#Review. This article is WP:DYK-eligible, good job! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:10, 18 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Added to Talk:South_Side_(Pittsburgh)#Review. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 16:41, 24 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

And now Talk:Sala Udin#Review. This article is WP:DYK-eligible, good job again! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 16:49, 26 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Piotrus, Thanks for giving us feedback. I nominated several of our articles for the DYK section as you suggested, but they were all removed immediately because "too old, not expansion, other problems"--what should we do? Llh19 (talk) 19:21, 29 November 2010 (UTC)Llh19Reply
I'd have to see the exact removal diff / comment, but I do believe the the nomination deadlines was missed (IIRC both of your class' eligible articles were expansions, they have to be nominated 5 days after the expansion occurs). In the future, when you become more familiar with how WP:DYK works, this should be easier - it is common for many new editors to miss DYK deadlines. Anyway, I'll ask the editors who decline your noms to explain their rationale to you. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 20:58, 29 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have removed those 4 nominations after they have been reviewed by other editors and myself. Before nominating, please check whether the nominated article

  • meets novelty criteria, i.e. it should be written or 5x expanded by "prose count" within 5 days from nomination.
  • referenced - DYK requires at least one reliable in-line reference to cover each paragraph, except for plots (movie, book) and the lead.
  • contains basic grammar and formatting errors. In particular, use of bare urls in references is not allowed on DYK.

I will explain my abrupt comments upon specific questions. Cheers. Materialscientist (talk) 00:25, 30 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
