Rename question
Matthew, I always have problems understanding the history of a rename. In this instance, could you help me with User:PBS and User:Philip Baird Shearer. Based on my review of the history, the PBS account was created on October 20, 2003. PBS became an administrator on June 6, 2006. The Philip account was created on July 16, 2012. It was blocked by PBS on April 6, 2013, and had only a handful of contributions while active.
Another administrator says I'm wrong (wouldn't surprise me) and that the July 16, 2012, date is when you renamed Philip to PBS based on this. I don't care who's right. I just want to understand what happened and, even more important, how I'm supposed to figure these things out. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:21, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
- you have it the wrong way around the account was called Philip Baird Shearer it was renamed after a rename request here at 2012-07-16 13:32:53. I blocked the account Philip Baird Shearer to stop myself accidental editing using two accounts. PBS is not a totally universal account, and so I still use Philip Baird Shearer on Commons (a real pain) and having uploading images onto commons I sometimes accidentally made some edits on Wikipedia as Philip Baird Shearer (having forgotten to log out and log backin as PBS) before making the edit. Why do you want to know this? --PBS (talk) 23:13, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the link to the rename request, and obviously I'm wrong, but I still I don't get how I'm supposed to figure this out generally. The reason I'm asking is fairly innocuous. Remember the ANI thread? People referred to an RfC/U about you. I didn't look into that until after I closed the topic, but when I did, I couldn't find it, and that's partly because it was archived under the Philip account, which now makes sense as it was started and closed in 2011. Then I went into one of my mini technical spirals trying to understand exactly what happened and failing miserably, sigh.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:24, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
- Bbb23, I'm sorry, but the rename process has changed so much over time that trying to trace ancient account history is nearly impossible. I'm strapped at the moment, but I will try to explain more tomorrow. MBisanz talk 23:21, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

Neptune Pine Smartwatch
Back in January, you guys deleted an article called "Neptune Pine" stating that it wasn't notable at the time. Now the said product has reached $270K in the first 3 days of its Kickstarter campaign, and the story has been covered by numerous media outlets such as FOX, Huffington Post, Globe & Mail, CBC, Global, TechCrunch, etc., especially regarding the founder, Simon Tian, a 19-year old college dropout that founded the company.

Recreation of Pokernews.com Re-direct page
Hello MBisanz. Last Friday I reached out to User: Sirex98 seeking advice on changing Pokernews.com from a redirect page to having its own Article Page. User: Sirex98 suggested that it would be best to get community feedback on this topic through posting it at WP:DRV. After reading the policies and procedures for the Wikipedia’s Deletion Review I realized that I had to discuss the matter with the administrator that closed the discussion. I found that to be you and thought that I better contact you as soon as I could so here it goes.
I would like to bring back to discussion the consensus for the deletion of the pokernews.com article page. On December 7, 2008 the result of the discussion, found here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pokernews.com, was to set Pokernews.com as a redirect page to Tony G. However, today I’d like to state the case that after 5 years I think PokerNews no longer fails WP:WEB or WP:N and is suitable to have it's re-direct page re-created. I was able to find more sources that help prove that Pokernews.com can now act as a notable Wikipedia article page. If you can take a look at my account sandbox here, User:AthenasMuse/sandbox, you will see that I drafted an article for proposal. This article is now aided with many sources that verify Pokernews’ existence and high regard as a leader in news coverage for the poker industry. The article is cited with better reliable independent sources that include third-party sources such as: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2007/05/prweb525316.htm , http://www.24-7pressrelease.com/press-release/pokernewscom-releases-us-poker-room-and-instant-play-top-lists-198748.php , http://www.reviewjournal.com/inside-gaming/feds-eye-poker-champs-assets , http://www.wnd.com/markets/news/read?GUID=23446428 , http://www.igbaffiliate.com/events/igbaffiliateawards/winners-revealed-2013 .
I hope this can suffice as a more credible page than what was originally created. Please let me know what you think. Thank you.--AthenasMuse (talk) 20:37, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- Looks fine to me, but I'm not specialist. Feel free to re-create it, but I can't promise others will be as open-minded. MBisanz talk 21:47, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- Sounds good, I'll give it a shot. Thank you for your help. --AthenasMuse (talk) 04:20, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations
Hi MBisanz! I placed a request on Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations page several days before, but without reply for over 2 weeks. My fomer contributions were under the name Jing-hai Huang, I used to want to put my contributions under that name in all wikis, but too many wikis to change. So could I get my contributions back under this original name Huangjinghai? If not, would you be so kind to simply close that request please?
Best wishes, and sorry for my poor English.--Huangjinghai (talk) 05:41, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

Objection to the decision to remove the criticism page for Bell Canada
Hi,
You can read my entire complaint here:
Which I will future revise and add to after my examination period has concluded for the semester. Point blank here are the primary reasons for why I object to this deletion:
1. You merely deleted the page and failed to cite valid criticisms of Bell in the Bell_Canada page. Thus you created an entirely new bias when attempting to resolve another one. Many people here even suggested that the article be merged or re-written to be more neutrual and you simply ignored these requests and deleted it.
2. Other corporations on the same scale as Bell Canada have pages dedicated to specifically criticism Criticism_of_Google, Criticism_of_Microsoft, Criticism_of_Walmart. Why was this one so provocative?
3. The few people who advocated the removal of this page arguably are not versed well enough to know just how controversial this corporation is. Bell Canada is largely controversial for the reasons cited in this deleted article and in my lengthy objection linked above. It's likely that several users who advocated to delete the article aren't Canadian and thus are unaware of how controversial this corporation is.
Thanks for your time,
David

Senseltd
Someone, presumably its former owner, Wikikl, logged into Senseltd and made a single edit. I assume he just forgot that his account was renamed.
The talk page has not been changed since it became a redirect.
To prevent a repeat of the earlier situation, consider blocking the account, creating a redirect at the user page, and locking down the user page and its talk page so bots and scripts can't add stuff below the #REDIRECT. If you block the account, please note in the block log that this is not in any way a sanction or other negative reflection on the editor (people assume all blocks are "bad behavior" blocks, so it's important to state when they are not). davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 17:04, 21 December 2013 (UTC)

MtulliusC and Zmflavius
Please explain this edit at 02:05, 30 December 2012, as it seems both Zmflavius and MtulliusC still exist and currently Zmflavius's home page redirects to the home page of MtulliusC and before a recent edit so did the talk page. It seems to me as Zmflavius is the active account and MtulliusC is not, the redirects should be the opposite way around. -- PBS (talk) 15:36, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
- He was renamed from User:Zmflavius to User:MtulliusC. He apparently missed the memo that I renamed him last year so either the redirects should be reversed or he should be reminded of the rename. MBisanz talk 02:04, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
Moved page User talk:Victimoflove97 to User talk:Soulmusicfan97:
I think I need your help unscrewing what I screwed up here. I removed the redirect and put a warning on the Victimoflove97 page, but if they are the same user, then that's wrong. But the edit was made today by the "Old" user, so I'm not sure what to do. — Bill W. (Talk) (Contrib) — 18:12, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
- They are almost certainly the same user because the "old" account was re-created after I renamed "Victimoflove97" to "Soulmusicfan97". Unless Soul says he is not Victim, it would probably be smart to restore the redirect and remind him to only use the new account. MBisanz talk 02:06, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

university of georgia college of education
Hello,
I'm new to editing Wikipedia. I've been assigned by the College of Education to edit our page to include more relevant content, such as our achievements and notability. It looks like this page is about to be merged with UGA. Is it possible to revisit this decision??
Thanks! Ugagirl2331 (talk) 13:35, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
- The fundamental issue is finding in-depth coverage in independent third party sources. That's sources that are unrelated to the University of Georgia, it's student body, alumni or staff; and they have to be secondary sources that cover the college in detail and at length. If you can find a handful of those, pretty much anything is possible. Kaimahi (talk) 21:13, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi. I created the Westminster Dragoons page and am the webmaster of www.westminsterdragoons.co.uk, the unofficial website of that military unit. An exciting month of wiki events!
Hello there,
I am pleased to say that April will be a very exciting month for Wikipedia in Washington, DC. We have a lot of different events coming up, so you will have a lot to choose from.
First, a reminder that our second annual Women in the Arts Edit-a-Thon will take place on Sunday, March 30 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
Coming up in April, we have our first-ever Open Government WikiHack with the Sunlight Foundation on April 5–6! We are working together to use open government data to improve the Wikimedia projects, and we would love your help. All are welcome, regardless of coding or editing experience. We will also be having a happy hour the day before, with refreshments courtesy of the Sunlight Foundation.
On Friday, April 11 we are having our first edit-a-thon ever with the Library of Congress. The Africa Collection Edit-a-Thon will focus on the Library's African and Middle East Reading Room. It'll be early in the morning, but it's especially worth it if you're interested in improving Wikipedia's coverage of African topics.
The following day, we are having our second annual Wiki Loves Capitol Hill training. We will discuss policy issues relevant to Wikimedia and plan for our day of outreach to Congressional staffers that will take place during the following week.
There are other meetups in the works, so be sure to check our meetup page with the latest. I hope to see you at some of these events!
All the best,
James Hare

Question about usurpation
Hi MBisanz, I was wondering if you could explain en.wikipedia.org's policies on "usurpation." I was led to believe that I could object to "usurpation," but it appears my account was "usurped" regardless of my objection. Thanks! --Mfb (usurped) (talk) 01:32, 19 August 2014 (UTC)
- My apologies for missing your objection, normally if I had seen the objection, I wouldn't have gone forward with the usurp, in accordance with en.wiki policies. As a practical matter, eventually you would have been usurped automatically because the de.wiki user has the stronger claim to the name and the longterm plan in the larger wikimedia universe is to eliminate unattached accounts like yours. Theoretically, I could rename you to give you back the mfb account, but you would only lose it again in another year or two. MBisanz talk 01:39, 19 August 2014 (UTC)
- It would be great if my username could be renamed. Although "usurped" is an interesting badge of honor, I suppose. What does it mean that my account is unattached? --Mfb (usurped) (talk) 01:48, 19 August 2014 (UTC)
- If you look at the bottom of this link you'll see that four accounts are unattached. This is because the German users owns the global SUL, which means his attached accounts are linked together. The unattached accounts exist only on each individual wiki. I would be happy to rename you to something else (say, maybe MFB?), but if I rename you back to Mfb, you will eventually lose the name again. MBisanz talk 01:52, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of the David Kirsch article
I made a case for undeletion of this article and was told to contact you on your talk page. Here is a link to the argument I made on the undeletion page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_undeletion#David_Kirsch I don't believe this article was deleted properly, and I can name a few dozen other articles about game developers less notable that have not been deleted since. 68.204.229.19 (talk) 02:43, 21 August 2014 (UTC)
- I decline to reverse the deletion. Unless you can show more recent coverage of Mr. Kirsch in independent news sources, I cannot see grounds to undelete. MBisanz talk 02:31, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
How to usurp an account
Hi MBisanz, I am the owner of the (global) account Clupus. Now I would like to post on en.wp some content. The problem is that there exists an account with the same name that is not mine. Thus my question is, what can I do? --134.96.67.46 (talk) 08:29, 20 August 2014 (UTC)
- Post a request at WP:CHUU and we'll give you the name after a week. MBisanz talk 02:29, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot. I did post the request. You might well archive/remove this discussion. Thx --134.96.67.46 (talk) 05:48, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

An important message about renaming users
Dear MBisanz,
I am cross-posting this message to many places to make sure everyone who is a Wikimedia Foundation project bureaucrat receives a copy. If you are a bureaucrat on more than one wiki, you will receive this message on each wiki where you are a bureaucrat.
As you may have seen, work to perform the Wikimedia cluster-wide single-user login finalisation (SUL finalisation) is taking place. This may potentially effect your work as a local bureaucrat, so please read this message carefully.
Why is this happening? As currently stated at the global rename policy, a global account is a name linked to a single user across all Wikimedia wikis, with local accounts unified into a global collection. Previously, the only way to rename a unified user was to individually rename every local account. This was an extremely difficult and time-consuming task, both for stewards and for the users who had to initiate discussions with local bureaucrats (who perform local renames to date) on every wiki with available bureaucrats. The process took a very long time, since it's difficult to coordinate crosswiki renames among the projects and bureaucrats involved in individual projects.
The SUL finalisation will be taking place in stages, and one of the first stages will be to turn off Special:RenameUser locally. This needs to be done as soon as possible, on advice and input from Stewards and engineers for the project, so that no more accounts that are unified globally are broken by a local rename to usurp the global account name. Once this is done, the process of global name unification can begin. The date that has been chosen to turn off local renaming and shift over to entirely global renaming is 15 September 2014, or three weeks time from now. In place of local renames is a new tool, hosted on Meta, that allows for global renames on all wikis where the name is not registered will be deployed.
Your help is greatly needed during this process and going forward in the future if, as a bureaucrat, renaming users is something that you do or have an interest in participating in. The Wikimedia Stewards have set up, and are in charge of, a new community usergroup on Meta in order to share knowledge and work together on renaming accounts globally, called Global renamers. Stewards are in the process of creating documentation to help global renamers to get used to and learn more about global accounts and tools and Meta in general as well as the application format. As transparency is a valuable thing in our movement, the Stewards would like to have at least a brief public application period. If you are an experienced renamer as a local bureaucrat, the process of becoming a part of this group could take as little as 24 hours to complete. You, as a bureaucrat, should be able to apply for the global renamer right on Meta by the requests for global permissions page on 1 September, a week from now.
In the meantime please update your local page where users request renames to reflect this move to global renaming, and if there is a rename request and the user has edited more than one wiki with the name, please send them to the request page for a global rename.
Stewards greatly appreciate the trust local communities have in you and want to make this transition as easy as possible so that the two groups can start working together to ensure everyone has a unique login identity across Wikimedia projects. Completing this project will allow for long-desired universal tools like a global watchlist, global notifications and many, many more features to make work easier.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns about the SUL finalisation, read over the Help:Unified login page on Meta and leave a note on the talk page there, or on the talk page for global renamers. You can also contact me on my talk page on meta if you would like. I'm working as a bridge between Wikimedia Foundation Engineering and Product Development, Wikimedia Stewards, and you to assure that SUL finalisation goes as smoothly as possible; this is a community-driven process and I encourage you to work with the Stewards for our communities.
Thank you for your time. -- Keegan (WMF) talk 18:24, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

Wikimedia DC invites revolutionaries, free thinkers, and other sundry editors to a DC WikiSalon
The WikiSalon is a special meetup usually held during the first and third full weeks of every month, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's an informal gathering of Wikimedia enthusiasts, who come together to discuss Wikimedia wikis and collaboratively edit. There's no set agenda, and guests are welcome to recommend articles for the group to edit or edit on their own.
If you're coming by Metro, the closest station is Dupont Circle (on the Red Line). If you're driving, a lot of parking opens up downtown after 6:30 PM, so finding a parking space (even a free one) should be easy. Once you've found the building, go to Cove on the second floor. We will be in the conference room.
When: Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Where: The Cove, Dupont Circle, 1730 Connecticut Avenue NW, 2nd floor, 20009, DC

Look at a draft submission?
Hey, I came across The Heir Chronicles somehow (can't remember exactly) and I decided to try to see if I could find enough sourcing to overturn the AfD that you closed years ago. (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Heir Chronicles) I honestly do think that there's enough sourcing there for this to pass WP:NBOOK and part of me is very, very tempted to just move it to the mainspace. Long story short, it was moved to draftspace by one of the other admins that deleted the page and I was wondering if I should ultimately just take this to DR as opposed to running it through the draftspace. Part of my concern is that it takes a fairly long time for things to clear AfC and I just feel that DR would be a better place for this than AfC because then we could have a more formal consensus. Part of the reason I'm kind of leaning towards DR is that a lot of these sources were available when the book series was out, it's just that they weren't found. Part of that is because a lot of the reviews were done through peer-reviewed journals, which rarely show up on regular Google searching, which seems to have been the main (if not only) way a lot of editors were searching. If you need any further information, please let me know. I am kindly requesting reconsideration for the deletion of " Roshanda Duncan" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bubblelistic (talk • contribs) 00:24, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- I am sorry, but inclusion of activities on a list such as IMDB is not the same as independent coverage discussing a person's contribution. Unless you can produce articles discussing why Roshanda Duncan personally is a notable producer/music coordinator, I cannot undelete it. The 1994 article only mentions her in passing and not in a noteworthy manner (e.g., there are thousands of high school athletes who receive the same sort of coverage in local newspapers). Confusing name change
Hi MBisanz. I saw here that today you changed User:JDgeek1729 to User:Jjjjjjdddddd. However, even though Special:Contributions/JDgeek1729 now shows that the JDgeek1729 account does not exist, the pages User:JDgeek1729 and User talk:JDgeek1729 still exist, and editors trying to contact this editor by clicking on the old signature are ending up at the old talk page. See [10], for example. User:JDgeek1729/sandbox and User:JDgeek1729/twinkleoptions.js also still exist. I thought that when names were changed their user and talk pages were moved to their new name. The current situation is creating a fair amount of confusion, compounded by the fact that this editor had made some very problematic acceptances at WP:AFC, prior to having access to the AfC tools removed. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 19:16, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
- I don't know why it didn't move either. I'll try to fix it. And, also, besides that article I can't believe got past my radar, "The People's Games", Why did my AfC tools get removed? Jjjjjjdddddd (talk) 01:35, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
- I don't know why that happened. Thanks for letting me know about that. MBisanz talk 05:58, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
Any objections?
Hi MBisanz. Thine Antique Pen has wandered over to my talk page and asked if the "no requesting permissions" restriction could be removed. It was a voluntary agreement upon unblocking, not a community imposed restriction - and since you were involved in discussions around then, I thought I'd double check your opinion. It was updated in 2012 so he had to go through me if he wanted to make requests, and I don't think he's asked more than a handful of times. I've no problems at all with the restriction being removed, and absent objections will do so tomorrow. WormTT(talk) 08:23, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
- I had forgotten that still was in place. I agree it can be lifted. MBisanz talk 13:05, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
- That's always a good sign that a restriction can be removed ;) Thanks for commenting. WormTT(talk) 13:21, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of Peter Grenader page
I am Peter Grenader. I have been informed from the person who administered the Peter Grenader Wikipedia listing that you have recently deleted it and i find this action unjust and here's why:
The conversation to remove this started on the article's talk page by a person named Eric Barbour. He has made subsequent entries in other WIki related blogs. He is also the owner of Metasonix, a competitor of Plan B/EAR - my company which was also mentioned in this article as I am it's founder and chief designer. I feel that a professional vendetta and sabotage an inexcusable justification for this consideration. Further, several of the content items were questioned in the deletion discussion, such as claims of inventing and introducing certain functions and modules into modular synthesis, yet no investigation was done to determine if in fact they were untrue. If they had attempted to do this, they would have found they are in fact accurate and for a encyclopedia with insists of certification, I am questioning why they are not required when deletion editing is being considered.
Lastly, Eric's other mention of angry customers should be a non issue. It is preposterous that this was taken into consideration and frankly, i find this misuse of the authority of the editing boards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.118.213.104 (talk) 20:58, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Usurpation of "Grabi" account
Thank you very much for making usurpation done for en.wiki. I am worried with the Commons account, because it is my account, but I've forgotten password and I have not received any e-mails with new one (I am afraid that that account is connected with dead e-mail adress).
Do You know if it is possible to restore account or usurp it in such situation? It is quite easy to prove, that was me who had used that account, but I do not know is there any procedure for doing it.
For example: File https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Skrzek_2006-05-03.jpg was uploaded on Commmons 22:10, 27 May 2006 as my own work and in an hour used by me in article skrzek on polish Wiki https://pl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Skrzek&oldid=3449887. Then within the month this photo was voted as quality image on polish Wiki with pl.wiki Grabi user as author https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Grafika_na_medal_-_propozycje/Skrzek.
Most of the photos uploded by Grabi on Commons was instantly used by pl.wiki Grabi in the articles.
Can You help me to find a way on how to solve this problem?
Many thanks, Grabi (talk) 15:20, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- I can usurp the Commons account, but you'll lose the contribution history under the name Grabi (it will go under the name "Grabi (usurped)"). Is that ok? MBisanz talk 03:09, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Just curious
Hello MBisanz. I am curious why the user page for Nik2106 (talk · contribs) - who got themselves indeffed today - was moved here. Even curiouser (said Alice) there is now a talk page for both usernames User talk:Nik2106 and User talk:Goingsufinglol Now a) I know this was three years ago so you might not have any memory of why the user page move happened and b) this might not be important in the grand scheme of things. It is just that I haven't seen anything like it before and I wanted to add to my "always learn something new even though I have edited for a long time" pool of knowledge. Thanks for your time. MarnetteD|Talk 01:06, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- I just found this request and this response to it. Maybe it is just a coincidence that today's vandal picked the same user name as the one from three years ago but I am intrigued. Cheers MarnetteD|Talk 01:11, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- Might as well add this Goingsufinglol (talk · contribs) so you don't have to go searching for it. MarnetteD|Talk 01:14, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah, when a person has their account renamed, the old name becomes vacant and can be re-registered. That's what happened here. In 2012, I renamed Nik2106 to Goingsufinglol. In 2015, someone created a new Nik2106 who did the bad acts you spotted. No real way to prevent it, but given the lag between the rename and re-registration, it's very likely to be related to the current Goingsufinglol. MBisanz talk 12:44, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi, thankyou for recently changing my name from John Smith the Gamer to Banak. Request for unprotection of User:Skyerise talk page
User:Skyerise has just accused me of being a sockpuppet without the slightest attempt at justification. This was apparently triggered by my intervention when I saw Skyerise revert another user's perfectly good edit, again without justification. I don't see why Skyerise's talk page should be protected from my right to reply. TwiceTheDice (talk) 18:20, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
- Dude, I sent you a canned warning, which is not an accusation, after your 5th edit ever was to revert me on an article you had never edited before. Many new editors do not know that sock puppets are not allowed. This is a standard good faith warning template to make sure new users know. Methinks you are reacting a bit strongly. In any case, I have legitimate reasons for the protection of my talk page. Thanks! Skyerise (talk) 18:36, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Requesting assistance
As suggested by Beeblebrox, I'm requesting aid in your capacity as a steward. I'm not quite familiar with your rank or the associated procedures, so pardon me if I make any errors. I shall post the query I posted at WP:AN here:
I'd like to ask the advice of administrators, if you please. This might well be outside your purview, but I figure I'll ask anyway. Mondolkiri1 (talk · contribs) is an editor that was indefinitely blocked for being WP:NOTHERE. Prior to his block, I had worked with Mondolkiri1 on multiple articles. Whilst he was always a bit eccentric (not that I'm not eccentric), he never struck me as completely mad. However, it seems he's gone off a cliff. Yesterday, an IP address posted on my talk page, making all sorts of weird insults. He later identified himself as Mondolkiri1. That IP was swiftly blocked. However, the same Mondolkiri1 has now made the equivalent of a death threat at my French Wikipedia talk page. Now, as I know, this user is already indefinitely blocked here. However, this type of behaviour seems completely inappropriate. I'm not sure what action can be taken against him.
Beeblebrox said that I should request a "global lock". Would you kindly suggest an appropriate course of action? RGloucester — ☎ 22:56, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Query to the Audit Subcommittee
Hello. As per Wikipedia:Arbitration_Committee/Audit_Subcommittee#Procedure, I have twice emailed the audit subcommittee regarding a potential misuse of CheckUser tools. I have not received a response to either of those emails, so I am attempting to ask the relevant questions here without revealing private information.
Multiple editors (Manul, Astynax, and John Carter) are claiming that a member of this audit subcommittee has (off-wiki) provided them with evidence of sock puppetry by me. I deny that any such evidence could possibly exist (given that I have never engaged in puppetry of any kind, ever), but that is not why I am coming here.
I am coming here so that this subcommittee can determine if a member performed a CU, despite a recent SPI request being declined, and – if a check was run – what the reasoning was per Wikipedia:CheckUser#CheckUser_and_privacy_policy (“The onus is on an individual CheckUser to explain, if challenged, why a check was run.”). And finally, why CU results would possibly be given off-wiki to other editors to resolve.
I find it extremely unlikely that an audit committee member is in any way involved in providing personal or other non-public information to editors, or in discussing any off-wiki “evidence”, but the editors are claiming such.
My questions:
- Was a CU run against my account?
- If yes, by whom and at who’s request?
- What was the rationale for running the check (why was a check run)?
- Did a CU provide personal or other non-public data of any kind, including insinuation or anything that could be interpreted as linking my account to others, to other editors off-wiki?
I request an Audit Subcommittee investigation of this situation and the involved editors' claims.
Thank you, Tgeairn (talk) 23:24, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
- Replied via email. MBisanz talk 21:30, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you, I received your email and replied by email. Also, I have compiled a partial list of diffs where editors are making claims based on the non-existent CU. Thank you again for your responses. --Tgeairn (talk) 22:11, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Friends of the Whanganui River book 1999 includes Bridge to Nowhere
Hi Mike
On monday I mentioned annuals published by the above group.
They also selected stories from their early annuals and published "Whanganui River Memories" for their 10th Anniversary project, edited by Arthur P Bates and Phil Thomsen.
There are several index references to Bridge to Nowhere.
Would this publication be suitable?

I noticed that you belong to the BAG group, and would like to ask reg a bot User:Alaibot which is categorized as inactive. How can I find out if anyone else than the owner can operate this bot? We need to Wikispecies a bot that finds stubs and submit them in category stubs, so we can start to clean up of thousand stubs we cant find, and Alaibot sounds exactly like what we are looking for, see our discussion on WS village pump Maybe you have an alterntive suggestion, in case of Alaibot is permanently inactive? Best regards, Dan Koehl (talk) 06:04, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Possible usurpation
MBisanz, I know the bureaucrats no longer have the ability to do renames, but you're also a steward. So, anyway, regarding the SUL global renames that are eminent, apparently the user with the most edits gets to keep the username. Had I been made aware of this via e-mail, or at least a message on my talkpage, I would've made a sufficient number of edits.
As it stands, though, it's primed to give this account to the German account holder, who has 148 edits, but hasn't edited in over two years. I know that usurpations of times past were normally done on target accounts with little or not edits, but there are cases in which the target account had hundreds. Here's one with 198 edits from under a year ago. And this one, also last year, had 135.
I know that stewards "can override this scheme on a case-by-case basis". I'm hoping that my case can be one of those. I can fill out any of the forms here or anywhere else. I can also make a couple hundred edits to make sure that I'm the account-holder with the most. Thanks. Pikachu (talk) 04:59, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
- I would try making the request at meta:SRUC. Thanks. MBisanz talk 00:02, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

1046: A Decade Between Books and Misdemeanors
1046 is a memoir of the decade that Daniel Genis spent in prison, told through the books he read. This site will contain the actual book list, which is too massive to publish but is an interesting resource. 1046 is due out next year, care of Penguin Books. The editor is Rick Kot; the agency is Mary Evans Inc. And my keeper is Julia Kardon, a whirlwind of success, strategy and smarts. The actual booklist, which briefly describes all 1046 books the Genis read, is going up in hundred entry segments. [2] [3]

Per Wikipedia:Deletion_review#Instructions, I request that you undelete Alex Blumberg. I believe you have misinterpreted the consensus at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Gimlet_Media, which was to merge the content at Gimlet Media and StartUp (podcast) into Alex Blumberg. No-one at the AfD suggested that Alex Blumberg should be deleted. --Surturz (talk) 03:21, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

User:Flyoffacliff
Hi Matthew, please look at the rename log for this user. A new account, CuteOrangeKittyCat is claiming that they are in fact Flyoffacliff and is trying to wipe out evidence of the sock puppetry findings from various pages. This isn't my forte, but if I understand properly, the sock master was allowed to vanish, and even the vanished accounts were indeffed. If that's true, then the things the new account is stating on their Talk page are untrue, and the account should simply be blocked as a sock. Am I right, or am I missing something? Changing username
Hi, MBisanz,
I was looking at the Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Manning naming dispute and ran into a strange situation that I hope you can shed some light on. The question is about a WP:CHU that you handled that I've found confusing in hindsight.
Imprimaturcr was an account that was active from May 2006 to April 2014. Daniel32708 was created in August 2013 and made one edit that made him an involved party in the Manning naming arbitration case. Just one edit in his contributions, made in August 2013.
Now, back in June 2013, you approved a name change from Daniel32708 → Imprimaturcr (see this diff) even though Imprimaturcr was the older account and Daniel32708 had not been created yet. I can see how it might have been Imprimaturcr → Daniel32708 but Imprimaturcr made an edit in 2014 and, besides, that's not what the archives say happened.
My questions:
- Why would Daniel32708, an account that didn't exist yet, get its username changed to that of an existing account, Imprimaturcr?
- But if Daniel32708's editing history had been completely moved to Imprimaturcr in June 2013, why does Daniel32708's account say it was created and edited in August 2013? This might have been a second, newer account also named Daniel32708 but why would his user page be a redirect to Imprimaturcr's page?
If the last statement was what happened, then it is ironic that a 9 year old account that editors knew as Daniel32708 was a party to an arbitration case when it was actually a recreated account that might have been made for mischief. I guess once a editor's name is changed, the older name is available for anyone to register and appear to be the previous editor? Liz Read! Talk! 18:04, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
- I can give a long explanation, but they're the same person. The Daniel account was recreated by Imprimaturcr in August, after I had renamed the original Daniel in June. MBisanz talk 03:17, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of List of Hofstra University faculty
The article List of Hofstra University faculty has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Almost all of the names listed here don't have Wikipedia articles. List of Hofstra University alumni is not very large, and unlike all other colleges, Hofstra has List of Hofstra University honorary degree recipients article. Totally overcoverage.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Notable Sweety (talk) 05:46, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
Nomination of List of Hofstra University faculty for deletion
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article List of Hofstra University faculty is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Hofstra University faculty until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Notable Sweety (talk) 05:48, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Workshopping bureaucrat activity requirements
- (Message to all bureaucrats)
There is an ongoing discussion about implementing some kind of standards for administrative and bureaucrat activity levels; and activity requirements for bureaucrats have been explored several times in the past. I've prepared a draft addition to Wikipedia:Bureaucrats that would require at least one bureaucratic action every five years to retain the bureaucrat permission.
In the past, I've been hesitant of such proposals but I believe that if the bureaucrat group as a whole is seen to be actively engaged, the community may be more willing to grant additional tasks to the position.
Please let me know your thoughts. I'm not sure if this actually applies to any of us, but if you have not acted as a bureaucrat in over five years, you might consider requesting removal of the permission or otherwise signalling that you intend to return to bureaucrat activity. –xenotalk 14:22, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
