January 2020, more reverts

edit

I have reverted several of the edits that you have made in the last few days, because they did not appear to be improvements. In particular, please note:

  • Do not change spellings to US English spelling except with the guidelines in MOS:ENGVAR. In particular, articles that mainly relate to Nigeria should normally use Nigerian English spelling. My understanding is that Commonwealth English spelling is normally used in Nigeria, including 'programmes' and 'honours'.
  • The date formats to use are described in MOS:DATEFORMAT. '17 January, 2020' is not a supported format.

Verbcatcher (talk) 21:20, 17 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Please stop introducing non-standard date formats that do not follow MOS:DATEFORMAT. Also, the Wikipedia:Neutral point of view policy does not prevent descriptions that favour the subject of an article if the description is justified by well-sourced content. Lastly, please only use '#1Lib1Ref' in edit summaries when your edits relate to the #1Lib1Ref campaign to add references to Wikipedia. Thanks, Verbcatcher (talk) 19:24, 23 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Your recent edit to List of Nigerian bloggers appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person, organization or product added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you. Please explain "Adding image of band" instead of only using the hashtag. Also you're unnecessarily removing hatnotes and cleanup templates. – Thjarkur (talk) 10:26, 22 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
You're still not using edit summaries. Please write "Adding image (#WPWP)" instead of just using bare hashtags. What is "WPWPUIL" referring to? – Thjarkur (talk) 10:38, 22 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Please use the Preview button to see if your changes work before submitting them. This edit and other similar are leaving broken templates. – Thjarkur (talk) 10:40, 22 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Ifeyinwa Ighodola

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Ifeyinwa Ighodola, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Ubong King, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Federal Government College. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions.

Olasupo "Opeyemi" Abideen moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Olasupo "Opeyemi" Abideen, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Adding images

edit

Please make sure to include proper captions when adding images, and use the proper syntax when adding images in infoboxes. --Paul_012 (talk) 10:59, 1 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

To add, all this is explained in the campaign rules m:Wikipedia_Pages_Wanting_Photos_2021#How_to_participate rule 4 says "include a brief caption explaining what the image depicts in the article" A bit less haste to add images will greatly increase the quality of the edits which is more important than the quantity. More images being correctly used is great but you need to do the work to explain the context too. Please make sure images are relevant, this edit wasn't very helpful imo especially in the infobox. Nthep (talk) 12:44, 1 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please note also that WikiProject Middle-earth does not use fan art in infoboxes or the lead sections of articles. If a major artist gives us a free high-quality image, then of course we can use that. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:10, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Major Lyte (talk) 15:54, 1 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

The majority of your edits are helping but by the campaign rules you are supposed to a) check that images are actually relevant, b) add captions , and c) use the correct syntax. You haven't been doing any of b) and c) and a) you have added some (a minority I give you) that are irrelevant or marginal relevance. All of that means that others have to go through all the edits you make and clean them up.
I accept that various tools may be suggesting images to add but it is your responsibility to assess whether the images are relevant to the article, Wikipedia:IMGCONTENT might help you make this assessment. Nthep (talk) 16:07, 1 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello Nthep,

I have gone through Wikipedia:IMGCONTENT

Can I continue in the campaign?

I'm just asking to abide by Wikipedia policy and add appropriate images with meaningful captions and titles using the appropriate syntax. I'd rather see 21 correctly added images than 218 (your count today so far) that partially or wholly miss the mark. I have nothing to do with the administration of the WPWP campaign and I don't intend to make any comment to the organisers about your edits, so continue to add images but please, please add captions/title and use the right syntax when you add to an infobox. "Image of"

edit

Please stop adding "image of" to captions. It does not improve matters -- a caption is inherently assumed to be describing or discussing the content of the image. Also, an infobox person image does not need a name, as it is implied that it is the person whose name is at the top of the infobox. --Nat Gertler (talk) 10:26, 30 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:57, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Blocked as a sockpuppet

edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for abusing multiple accounts as a sockpuppet of User:James Moore200 per the evidence presented at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/James Moore200. Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  The WordsmithTalk to me 02:03, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello @The Wordsmith
I write this in good-faith to you and the whole admins. I am not a sockpuppet to James Moore200 I am a separate individual. I am not disputing the fact that I know the person, he was the 5th President of the Wikimedia Fan Club Unilorin and I was a member during his tenure.
On the issue of Sockpuppet, I accessed my account with his device because my device is having some technical issues that needs repair. He allowed me to use his computer to make my contribution to the Wikipedia page which I believe was out of his generosity, nothing else. Moreover all this happened in the month of May which was about 4 months ago. Since then I haven't made any edit with his device.
I never knew that borrowing his device to make some edits would cost me to be blocked. I have been an active contributor on Wikipedia for the past 5 years and I have never experienced this. I sincerely apologize for that. I have learned my mistake.
You can investigate more about me. I appeal for an unblock of my account. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

@Primefac: Spicy Confirmed the connection, but is no longer a CU. You also ran a check on this SPI, does this explanation line up with the technical data? I'd consider unblocking if it does. The WordsmithTalk to me 15:49, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@The Wordsmith Thank you so much for your consideration. I appreciate you. Major Lyte (talk) 11:31, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Honestly can't say that I remember much about this check (if my comment at the SPI was any indication). On the whole it's a reasonable explanation though. Primefac (talk) 12:09, 26 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Primefac. After hearing the explanation, I'm going to assume good faith here and reverse my block. @Major Lyte: Please be careful when using shared devices, especially a device that James Moore200 or other blocked/banned editors have also used. I apologize for the inconvenience, and I hope you will continue contributing to Wikipedia. The WordsmithTalk to me 17:02, 26 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
