Governor of Puerto Rico in 1898

Hi Tony, there is a BIG problem in the list of governors of PR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Governors_of_Puerto_Rico) but I don't know how to fix it. I thought maybe you can figure out the cause because I am at my wits ends and have no clue how this problem is possible despite spending a considerable amt of time on this.

This problem is this: There was a succession of 5 governors in 1898:
Ricardo de Ortega y Diez
Andrés González Muñoz
Ricardo de Ortega y Diez
General Manuel Macías Casado
Ricardo de Ortega y Diez

with one of them being this Ricardo de Ortega y Diez. Well, this Ricardo de Ortega y Diez has the picture of an athlete (one Ariel Ortega) in the List of Governors article - obviously not the Spanish Generalissimo picture you would expect!!!!!!!!!!

The odd thing is that when you click on the name for Ricardo de Ortega y Diez, Wikipedia brings up an article about him and, within that article, Wikipedia shows the correct picture for him ([[3]]). But even more monumentally odd is that both, that picture of Ricardo de Ortega y Diez showing in his article and the picture of the athlete as accessed via the List of Governors of PR article, both of them point to the same "File:Ortega.jpg".

I am clueless. I would like to fix it but don't know how. Some weeks ago, HQ worked on it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Mercy11#List_of_Governors) and he knew of a similar problem dealing with the PRBL logo. HQ believes it's related to persistent cache. But wow! this stuff is months old...plus I believe it also happens with other computers that have never been to the List of Governors [4] page before. (I am not sure about this one but intend to check it out within the next day or two).

Are you having the same problem I am having from your PC? Of course, your PC has probably been to List of Governors before, making yours a bad test case (i.e., if your PC displays the Argentinian atlethe in the List of Governors, it could still be blamed on the cache theory...)

FYI, at least at one point, the atlethe's article had the picture of the General in it (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ariel_Ortega&direction=next&oldid=336334473) also!!!!

This whole experience makes me mistrust Wikipedia quite a bit for the first time - if the pic for the Governor is wrong, how many other things might be wrong also???

Hi again. UPDATE: I am confirming that when accessed from a PC out on the Internet (no wikiuser logged in, just plain IP address), and one that has never been to that page before, the atlethe's photo displays, not the Governor's, where the Governor's photo should. Cinco de Mayo

Sorry about the avalanche of messages. Was wondering if you could help me lock Cinco de Mayo. I know this is probably not within your wikiprojects, but I don't know about a policy prohibiting an admin from locking a page that's outside his project circle. I requested a lock in the past ([5]) and it got done([6]& [7]), but only for a month.

I don't know if its the beer associated with it but seems vandals were just waiting persistenly until the lock expired to jump on the article and ruin it. Well, it's happened now again for a 3rd time (at least since I got involved, about 2 months ago). A quick look a the article's history in just the last 7 or so days ([8]) reveals what I mean. And with the real 5 de mayo calendar day just 2 weeks away, the vandalism is only bound to get worse and these kids are just now starting to plan their 5 de Mayo beer parties. Hi Tony - Certain edits that you made to the Carmen Gonzalez page are incorrect. For example - the restaurant is no longer open, and the Esquire quote had been edited and written in a way that it was grammatically correct, so the punctuation that you removed needed to be there. Additionally, it did not require its own section because, as Wikipedia Help representatives indicated, it is not 'encyclopedic' so I don't understand why that change was made.

I am aware that we are allowed to make edits to other Wikipedia pages. But in the future, before making these kinds of edits without proper research, I suggest that you contact the original editor to review your ideas. • Hello 2LT Basquez, You can tell Capt. Castro that I had the pleasure of writing his article in Wikipedia. The article when published in the "Did You Know" section of the main page established a new record of readership which hasn't been broken yet. The article was the subject of vandalism by Anti-American editors and that is why I keep a watchful eye over it and the cintents that are added.

I wanted to speak to him personally and was given a phone number by Brig. Gen. Hector Pagan, but unfortunately I lost it. In regard to your question. You can list the additional decorations or any other information here and I will do the rest. Tell Capt. Also, when does an article stop being a "stub"? For some articles I created, or significantly modified in what appeared to be a solo mode, I just made a judgment call and janked the thing out. Javier Culson for example, has been a stub soince creation over a year ago, yet it has grwon over 2-1/2 x since. Is there a standard criteria to follow? On 28 September 1925, Chief Gunner's Mate Joseph B. Aviles transferred from the U.S. Navy to the Coast Guard. Born in Puerto Rico, Aviles became the first known Hispanic-American chief petty officer in the Coast Guard. During World War II he received a war-time promotion to chief warrant officer, becoming the first Hispanic American to reach that level as well.

Your words carry a transcendental message, and war is not an experience I wish anyone. I learned a long time ago that most wars can be avoided if governments could learn to live among each others like they expect us to live among ourselves. Benito Juarez once said, "Entre los individuos, como entre las Naciones, el respeto al derecho ajeno es la paz." But it could be reversed to say, "Among Nations, as among individuals, respect for the rights of other Nations, is peace." Have you read about the Trail of Tears? How about the Manifest Destiny? Like most wars, there are no winners, only victims and losers. Oddly, under the belief they have some new light never before shone on anyone, world leaders - without failure - make the same stupid mistakes that other leaders have been making since biblical times. Strangely enough, though, most these leaders graduated with degrees in political science, foreign service, history, law, and the like, meaning they aware, more so than the average citizen, of what those stupid mistakes were, and thus we would hope they will not make them again. OTRS Permission help

Hello Tony,

Been trying to "Contribute" to the National Register of Historic Places-listed Puerto Rico. These Images are posted here. It seems these images have been Challenged as non-public domain images although there are listed as Public Access. Anyways, All of these images were taken by personel hired by the Puerto Rican State Historic Preservation office link (State Govt Entitiy). I am inquiring to see if OTRS permission can be obtained for all images taken by PRSHP officers like was done with {{PD-PRGov-OfficialPortraits}} and {{PD-PRGov-IPC}}. There are hundreds of these images on the NPS focus website and I think they would be beneficial to the respective articles in question. Discussion can be viewed here on my talk page. Some photos are actually done by private architecture companies for PRSHPO. Others where taken by PRSHPO officers (Govt. Employees) and others by IPC (Instituto de Cultura Puertoriqueña). Nowhere, I was just using it like the Socorro name, as a placeholder, and was just suggesting that if you know her profession & town, it would run smoother with the already present profession and employer of her brother. BTW, I -was- suggesting you could eliminate the surnames because it seems customary in obituaries (thou maybe not in encyclopedias, thou I believe there too) to drop all surnames of the surviving children. Category:LGBT people of Puerto Rican descent

Hi Tony. I created the category LGBT people of Puerto Rican descent after another Wikipedian deleted 14 entries from Category:LGBT people from Puerto Rico on the grounds that those people were US based or born. The new category I created is now being considered for merging with Category:LGBT Hispanic and Latino American people, which would eliminate the possibility to easily link the two groups of Puerto Ricans. Dear Tony, I have a question for you. Is it acceptable Wikipedia practice to have exactly the same paragraph appear in six different articles? The text in question is the following (or some version thereof):

Well, technically since the content is in the public domain, there is nothing against its reproduction be it here or anywhere else. The matter would be more of a MoS issue, but even then it would be somewhat unimportant. • This the way it is done. 1. I sent the PRSHP e-mail to "OTRS" requesting a "ticket" number. 2. "OTRS" granted a ticket number to the PRSHP images and posted the tag (above) on the images which I sent them. 3. I proceeded to create the template which you saw in my workshop with the OTRS ticket number, which will replace the tags. It took some doing, but in the end it was worth it. Humm, how about moving Trias and Lluberas to under the "Physicians" sections to add to De la Pila? Clearly they were/are physicians mopst prominently and then their other stuff second. ALSO, it would present that there have been prominent physicians and health care professional among Puerto Ricans. Your take?

Hugo Margenat

I never heard of him but I am interested since I am very interested in metaphysical studies. I want to write an article on Carlos Martin, who is one of the leading experts on ufology. He has written about numerous incidents about extraterrestial encounters in Puerto Rico, especially heavy activity in Lago Cartagena (Cabo Rojo), El Yunque, and Vieques. He recently interviewed a nuyorican family from Rincon who had a series of paranormal activity. The incidents scared them so much they moved. They have signed sworn statements and even filmed (using a cell phone camera) what is reportedly a spacecraft in the wooded area behind their home. Coat of Arms

I know you are very good with pictures, graphics, diagrams, OTRS, copyrights, and the like, so I am wondering how you would address this problem. Turns out that the Ponce government coat of arms was uploaded in very low resolution, and it's almost useless if you want to follow the short narrative here > Ponce coat of arms. I found another one at this location (http://boricuaonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=29&Itemid=1) that has a much greater resolution. But that site says Copyright, bla, blah, blah, which makes no sense cause a C-O-A is a C-O-A, so they must have taken it from some other site themselves, such as here>>> (MUNICIPIO). If it sounds there is a Ponce trend here it is becuase there is! As I looked around this place I realized that, not only Ponce hurricanes (San Felipe II, uffff), but many other things were missing here, so I took it upon myself to help with that. Meaning, I have been involved in what you -- Tony -- have been involved yourself for some time >>> bios. As I don't have the breath of PR bio knowledge you have, I have been content to concentrate in Ponceño bios. So, no, I had no heard about Margenat, but I am not surprised you had! Arnaldo Darío Rosado

Hi. The infobox to this article (Arnaldo Darío Rosado) says he died in Villalba. Hummm, I doubt it. Was he not murdered at Cerro Maravilla itself? Was he taken wounded to a hospital in Villalba and then died in Villalba? I suspect the place of death is incorrectly recorded in the infobox. To the best of my knowledge Cerro Maravilla is shared between Ponce and Jayuya ([11]), but definitely not by Villalba. In fact some sources (http://www.elyunque.com/forests.html) identify Cerro Maravilla as entirely within Ponce. Not to be corny, but did he die on the Jayuya or the Ponce side of the mountain??? • You are absolutely right! Arnaldo Darío Rosado died at Cerro Maravilla which is s a mountain summit in Jayuya (See here) and not in Villalba. Tony the Marine (talk) 02:08, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

• • I agree that, although the road from Villalba is the one that gives access to Cerro Maravilla, its summit is not located in Villalba, but in an area shared by Jayuya and Ponce. Part of the initial access road and the area where the so-called Rikavisión building is located is in Ponce, the main antenna and part of the access road is in Villalba. I haven't been able to ascertain from Google Earth where the small monument is located or whether the monument was placed accurately where the deaths occurred. One would have to delve into the Senate Cerro Maravilla investigations documents to ascertain in which municipality the deaths actually occurred. Based on what I've seen in Google Earth, it may have been in Jayuya or Ponce. Pr4ever (talk) 12:34, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Tony, I noticed that her infobox is in the same situation as Albizu Campos'. Maybe it, too, should be fixed to look like Albizu's??? Poor Fort Buchanan

Sup Tony,

Came by the article on Fort Buchanan and was suprised as to how much history is lacking here. I started but decided that this editor should make way for someone more qualified for the task of fixing this up. I hope you are interested, If not, let me know and I can give a crack at it. I am just not ready to write articles as yet (this one probably needs a new rewrite). I did add a reference of its history though.
