Managing a conflict of interest

edit

Hello, MarkJames1989. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. It is fairly clear you have a conflict of interest in regard to Yandere Simulator. Please read the policies linked in this message and heed the directives, especially the one not to edit the page directly. Izno (talk) 16:42, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

No I really don't have a conflict of interest in regards to Yandere Simulator, it's just a project I enjoy watching from afar. I really don't understand why you remove the edits when they follow the guidelines, you have yet to give me any specific guidelines that I have broken and a part of me just thinks you're reversing changes because it was protected last year. I have cited sources (some were direct while referencing credits) please stop reversing them, instead just add better references if that is your issue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarkJames1989 (talkcontribs)
from what I've seen on Yandere Simulator, the text you are adding is completely cited to primary sources. The onus is on you to find suitable secondary sources for this article, not to add the text and then expect others to find sourcing. We don't really care what the developer says about its own game in this way. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:26, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Reverting Izno's clean up and saying you think it was randomly removed and possibly vandalism is not a great look. Not only did he link to the guidelines in question, he personally left you a message on this topic above. A message that you replied to BEFORE reverting him, so you knew exactly what was going on. Please do not continue with this flood of PRIMARY-only sourcing. -- ferret (talk) 20:54, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Right, as Lee says it's basically not our job to find citations for material sourced to primary sources. There are already a dozen reliable secondary sources in the article which can be used to support probably some reasonable chunk of the removed wikitext, and I imagine some of the sources at WP:VG/SE can help also. What isn't okay is taking the developer at his word in this instance because he has a clear interest in promoting his game even in the face of much negative reception.
Separately, you clearly gamed the required permissions to edit the article, which means that any administrator could remove those permissions. Please don't edit war over this: if you want to add any sort of material to the article, use the sources either already there or listed on WP:VG/S to do so. It will also help make a generally better article. --Izno (talk) 21:39, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hey all, specifically Izno, I apologize for my combative response as it was immature of me, I was mainly frustrated because I spent a lot of time researching the subject, days in fact, as someone who has seen the project for a long time, the article was missing a lot of information (as well as listing outdated information). I definitely could have handled this a lot better. Now while I did make a Wikipedia account rather recently, it wasn't solely for this article however I did have it in mind. This was an article I wanted to focus on first as I felt like it was missing a lot. I am a bit of a newbie but I realize where you guys see me as someone only using primary sources. My updates to the "Info Chan" part of the article were just me updating a section with outdated information from 2017 (this part now altogether deleted which is something I feel should at least be reverted since I didn't even make that and I was just trying to fix it using the same type of sources that the original section used) As for the Developer and his wishes, that's all him, I am attempting to research that piece as well since it has become rather infamous but there aren't several primary sources (for obvious reasons) or primary sources to fit that situation. As for the credits, I was mostly just using the references already given (which happened to be mostly primary) and using them to add credit where the Developer did. Now I'm not sure how I can prove someone was credited for the project other than using a primary source, I would ask for guidance on how to better fit that. As for the Debug Sandbox part of the article, that was updated because the quote from the website that was originally taken to site that source was changed, so I was simply updating it. This article has a lot of primary sources so I see how it seems like I'm adding fuel to the fire, but I was only updating previously written information that has now been removed, and I didn't want to take information away, I just wanted to update it, but now there is less information, new and outdated, on the article since I started and that's the last thing I wanted. I hope you guys can at least revert back to some of my changes with the fact I was just updating previously written statements in the article that have changed in the reference given. In the future, I will try to use more reliable secondary sources. I again apologize for my words, I hope you all understand and have a great day. --MarkJames1989 (talk) 20:11, 7 September 2021 (EST)
Thank you for your humility. I do think there could be a really good article written for this subject - but we just need to look up some good secondary sources. I'm a bit snowed under, but I can help you with the article, or at least find some suitable references in the coming days - would that help? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 09:06, 8 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Just to echo Lee, thanks for taking a step back!! Great look for a newbie. :)
It's probable that a lot of the additions you want to make are sourced to secondary sources. It would be great if someone improved the article with the text that you did, it really just does need the secondary sources. (The converse is that we really don't need stuff that can't be found in secondary sources.) Do try the search engine I linked above - it's super great for finding sources. Or try expanding some of the material from the sources already in the article, which I would guess have significant summaries that aren't reflected in the article at all. --Izno (talk) 14:24, 8 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Lee Vilenski: @Izno: Thank you all, I appreciate you all offering your support and I will definitely take your advice for this article and all future articles! Izno I will take your advice and absolutely use that search engine for sources! I really do appreciate that help! Also to Lee, I'd love to work with you as well with finding more suitable references, that would be amazing! Again, thank you all! I hope you all have a great day and again I'll use your advice! --MarkJames1989 (talk) 13:54, 8 September 2021 (EST)
