Sent you an e-mail, but probably should have just submitted questions here
editDoh, I just sent you an e-mail regarding some edits I wish to make to an existing page. I can repost the contents of the e-mail here, if that is more appropriate. ThanksPudsly (talk) 21:10, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Making a Page with the Same Name
editThanks for the information on resolving the issue with Going On (play) and Going On (song). I've created a Disambiguation Page for Going On. I've also created a page for Going On (play).
I was going to rename the existing page called Going On, which is for the song, but didn't want to change it by "moving" it, it looked like it might break some links.
How do I change the name of the existing Going On page from Going On to Going On (song)?
After we've done that, I think I can take it from there. Thank You.
cerberusrunning 18:48, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- There is a [Move] tab (or "caction" for its technical term, apparently) at the top of the screen, next to [article] [discussion] [edit this page] [history] [move] [watch]. Click the move tab, and put in the new title "Going On {song}", with a reason: "to disambiguate from Going On {play}. Check the "Move associated talk page" box, and click the "Move" button.
Moving the page will create a redirect at Going On to Going On (song). It will look like #REDIRECT Going On (song)
on the original page. Any article that links to Going On will still link there, but clicking on a link to Going On will redirect the reader to the new location.
After creating the redirect, you will be given the option to see "What links here" for the original page. You can go to each of those pages and update the link, changing Going On
to Going On (song)
The vertical pipe will make the link look like Going On when it's saved. See Wikipedia:Piped link for more on that. Any page that you update will link to the new article, and Going On will not have any articles linked to it, which is important if you later decide to move Going On (disambiguation) to Going On.
Then you just need to create Going On (play). Any links to it at other articles should use the Pipe trick so that the part in parentheses doesn't appear on the article page.
And that should be it. Matthewedwards : Chat 19:30, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Duplicate PR
editThanks for the heads up - I am an admin (albeit a somewhat inactive one) and deleted the second request. In such cases I check both requests to make sure there is not any new information that would be lost in the second (newer) request. If there is I copy it to the first (older) request with a note, then delete the second PR. Thanks again, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 11:09, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
IP editor at Wimbledon FLC
editSee this. Are you doing mid-week closures, or just waiting till weekend? Cheers, Dabomb87 (talk) 03:27, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
- I'm just looking through FLC right now to see if it there is any point. If there are a few that can be, I probably will do them this evening, if not I'll hold off til the weekend. Matthewedwards : Chat 03:29, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the link, too. Matthewedwards : Chat 03:30, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

- I have decided to wait. There are more that are in need of extra eyes than are ready to be archived, I think. Matthewedwards : Chat 04:31, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

DYK for Already Gone (Kelly Clarkson song)
editWikiproject: Did you know? 14:15, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up. –Moondyne 02:35, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
- No problem. For what it's worth, I do believe the page can be saved. Matthewedwards : Chat 02:41, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think so too. As you noted, the layout is now quite different from then which was the format I personally preferred. It is a narticle which needs regular updating and since I knew I wasn't going to be terribly involved in that I couldn't be bothered to argue the point when it got changed. I think that I can address most of the quite valid concerns you raised and that I will revert it to the old single table wide layout, but I may not get there for a few more days. When I do I'll comment further on teh review page. Cheers. –Moondyne 02:52, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

edit... for that. As Dabomb87 will testify to, I always forget at least one thing each time I do that. Are you around more nowadays? I've seen you're doing the promotions (on time for once!!) recently... The Rambling Man (talk) 20:16, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Yeah, my time here is more stable now, although I still may have trouble getting to FLC closures on time! :p Matthewedwards : Chat 17:31, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Question
editDo you know where one could find a reliable source for the charting of a single? See Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Massive Attack discography/archive1. Dabomb87 (talk) 20:31, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- Never mind, I think it's been resolved. Dabomb87 (talk) 20:35, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- For what county? Matthewedwards : Chat 20:36, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- I presume you meant country. For future reference, it was Britain. Dabomb87 (talk) 20:37, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, ok. Everyhit.com. Yeah, the fact that you can't link to the results is a pain in the ass, but http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/, which releases the chart first per their agreement with the Official Charts Company links to the site.
- Alternatively, there is the British Hit Singles & Albums and The Virgin Book of British Hit Singles which undoubtedly provide some of the best resources. http://www.theofficialcharts.com/links.php now gives only Radio 1 and The Sun as official chart licensees, but I remember when I lived in the UK that Heat, Broadcast, ChartsPlus, Music Week, and a few other newspapers such as the Monday edition of the Daily Mirror also listed the charts. I suppose at a stretch you could cite a weekly publication for each peak position. Matthewedwards : Chat 20:46, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

(outdent) How's this for a first pass at the huge synopsis? I'll take a second look later. Dabomb87 (talk) 21:47, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- Good, thank you. Still some ways to go before the length is okay per WP:FILM and WP:TV though. I think I got a bit carried away, but it's much harder trying to write a synopsis for a documentary than it is for a regular TV show or film. If you can think of more to remove, please do. I think this could get to at least GA in time. Matthewedwards : Chat 21:58, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- The limit's about 700 words, correct? Dabomb87 (talk) 22:04, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- According to MOS:FILM, yeah. Anywhere between 400 and 700, unless there are special circumstances. Matthewedwards : Chat 22:06, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Mailbox is not empty
editSorry to do this..
edit...but due to upcoming time constraints and with my vacation ending, I wont be able to review FLCs anymore (practically even edit Wikipedia). I just wanted to let you know that I apologize for doing this and that I know my help could have probable made a difference in at least one FLC nomination, and with the backlog that there constantly is, now is not a time to leave but I unfortunately have to. I just wanted to thank you for all the help and interactions we had throughout all my experiences, I will be sure to keep that forever and when I can come back, I will try to help out again. Thanks again for all the help. This will benefit me and FLC because if I review and don't come back I will have the burden on me to come back and having to seek time to reply or address concerns, and without that an FLC can probably pass/fail/be archived, so it might be better. --Truco 503 01:47, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

editAre they happening today? Dabomb87 (talk) 20:57, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Baghdad High.jpg)
editThanks for uploading File:Baghdad High.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 08:34, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

FLC closures
editThanks for doing them yet again; you've really kept things going while TRM has been AWOL and Scorpion busy. I am a bit curious as to why you promoted Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of tallest buildings in Bucharest/archive1 amid an oppose over factual accuracy concerns. Cheers, Dabomb87 (talk) 02:00, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. I think I'll take a break when they return though! :) Promoting that one was an accident. Could you undo it for me (WP:FL, WP:FLL, WP:FLC and the template) while I restart my computer? Matthewedwards : Chat 02:22, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- Do you want it to be archived, or returned to the FLC page? Dabomb87 (talk) 02:23, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- I returned it to the FLC page; hope that's what you wanted. Dabomb87 (talk) 02:30, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, that's what I meant. Thank you! Matthewedwards : Chat 02:35, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Hi, I just noticed that you archived the FLC for List of Chicago Cubs managers. I'm not quite sure what this means. Does this mean you have closed the nomination process and did not pass it? --TorsodogTalk 13:35, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- It got promoted.[2] Congrats! Matthewedwards : Chat 14:35, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Seinfeld (season 2) FLC closing
editAccording to your post on the FLC, it is closed but there is a delay, that doesn't bother me that much, but if the article is not promoted and you removed a support that was posted in the time the FLC should have been closed, I think that's a bit unfair.--Music26/11 15:33, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- It was added hours after the discussion has been archived. Had the bot run through them to complete the archival, it wouldn't have been added. Since the bot hasn't run yet, it is normal practice to remove the comments. I have also added the FLCClosed template. His support has been recorded in the page history, too. Matthewedwards : Chat 15:38, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- If you don't count the support, fine, but all comments were fixed. Why didn't you promote it?--Music26/11 14:51, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

editDear Matthewedwars, you closed Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Seinfeld (season 2)/archive2 eventhough the nominator complied with all comments and no oppose was given.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 22:53, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- And unresolved comments from me. I usually don't oppose unless the problems are severe, but I certainly was not going to let the issue go. Dabomb87 (talk) 23:28, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Madonna
editHI Matthew edwards. I have noticed your wonderful work in the Rihanna discography. I would like to know what do you think of Madonna singles discography and Madonna albums discography. With proper formatting can they be FLs? --Legolas (talk2me) 10:10, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. I think the Madnna discogs have the potential to become featured, but right now there is a lot of stuff that doesn't apply, such as cancelled releases, promos, those collaborations from her own albums, etc. This was something way down on one of my to do lists, but it's a big project, so good luck! Matthewedwards : Chat 15:58, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. I have started work on the singles discography at my sandbox2. Its a huge project I know. Hence a little apprehensive. Any pointers for starting? --Legolas (talk2me) 03:44, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
