editHello, I'm CASSIOPEIA. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 14:30, 22 January 2018 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Croatan at ECU.jpg
editA tag has been placed on File:Croatan at ECU.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Speedy deletion nomination of The Croatan at ECU
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on The Croatan at ECU, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
- It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. (See section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. A tag has been placed on The Croatan at ECU requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.ecu.edu/cs-admin/news/poe/2011/111/croatan.cfm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. Feedback
editHi Matt. I wanted to explain some of the problems your article has encountered, and give you some suggestions on how to move forward.
- Your article needs to be based on independent third-party sources. So if you're writing about a building at ECU, you need to work primary from sources that have no affiliation with ECU.
- You need to ensure that your tone is encyclopedic, not promotional. Talk about things in basic factual terms. This, for example, is a simple statement of fact
The Croatan is a dining area located on the main campus of East Carolina University
This, on the other hand, is less than perfect
Since its construction in 1970, it has recently been remodeled with new modernized features that help it compete with the growing demand for green building
- "Compete with the growing demand" is the kind of language people use in promotional copy, not in an encyclopedia article
- There are problems with grammar and sentence structure here that should be fixed before you move work out of your sandbox
With that being said, the Croatan was demolished to construct a new dining area that could have better sustainability and support a higher influx of students.
- "With that being said" is filler, and it's too informal for an encyclopedia article.
The Croatan strives to be one of the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly building on the entire East Carolina University campus.
- This is purely promotional copy. A building isn't a person and it can't "strive". If it is one of the most energy efficient buildings, you can say that (with a source). You can't say it's "environmentally friendly" though - that's too poorly-defined a term, and there are too many possible dimensions of environmental "friendliness". If a source describes it that way, you can report that the sources say so (with a supporting citation) but you can't assert that as a fact in Wikipedia's voice.
- Always use your own words. Please review the Plagiarism and Copyright training module before proceeding further.
