Speedy deletion nomination of Andrew Jayamanne
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Andrew Jayamanne requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Yunshui 雲水 11:19, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
The article Andrew Jayamanne has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Sanity
editPerhaps you don't realize the problem, so let me spell it out for you. The Andrew Jayamanne article is proposed for deletion because all biographies of living persons must be supported by at least one reliable source. You have added a source, but you formatted it so poorly that editors may well have missed the fact that you added it at all. You may want to use the edit summary feature to indicate: "I added a source". This might have prevented the back and forth that has occurred.
The source you added is trivial in the extreme -- it is about an entirely different person, and mentions Jayamanne once in passing as the cinematography instructor of the subject. This is sufficient to avoid deletion based on the BLP grounds, but it will not save the article from a articles for deletion discussion. Unless there is more information available about Jayamanne, this article is not likely to survive. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:34, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
- Perhaps you should have started by writing a userspace draft of the article you are working on while you familiarized yourself with WP:Citing Sources. This will wonderfully reduce the number of conflicts you will run into with other editors. Happy editing, hajatvrc with WikiLove @ 18:02, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
I have cleaned up your article. Jayamanne appears to be a major figure in Sri Lankan cinema, a topic that appears to be sorely under-reported on the English Wikipedia. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:55, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
Kopi Kade
editI have reverted a slew of edits made by you and Nevillejm (talk · contribs) to the Kopi Kade article which appear to overinflate Andrew Jayamanne's importance in the history of this drama. According to the cited sources, Thevis Guruge is credited as the creator of Kopi Kade, while Jayamanne is credited as its first director. To be sure, Jayamanne's contributions to Sri Lankan film and television is significant, but please do not artificially inflate it by misinterpreting or misrepresenting the sources that are available. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:27, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
- Can you explain why you reverted my change to Kopi Kade, intoducing material that is not supported by the available sources? While Jayamanne may have had influence in the early technical direction of this program, Guruge is clearly identified in the given source as the creator.
