Cracking
editCould you please look at the recent comment on Talk:Cracking (chemistry). I tried to address what appeared to be well-informed concerns. The main things that would be helpful are (i) to confirm that hydrocracking does not do HDS/HDN - those steps precede hydrocracking - right? and (ii) could you give a generic equation for a hydrocracking reaction. What about this:
- C24H50 + H2 → 2 C12H26
I know that this is simplistic, but it would give readers a sense for the role of H2 and the lowering of MW. But correct me if I am off base. Thanking you in advance for your help or advice or even scolding.--Smokefoot (talk) 03:51, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

Dear fellow Wikipedian, You are invited to meet up with online magazine East of Borneo for an edit-a-thon to build a better history of art in Southern California. This next event in their Unforgetting L.A. series will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 11am - 4pm at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena (map). Beginners welcome! Please RSVP here if you plan to attend. For more info, see eastofborneo.org/unforgetting. I hope to see you there! Ternary mixtures
editHi, Mbeychok! I've seen that you are a chemical engineer. Therefore I think your feedback on the issue at Talk:Raoult's_law#Ternary_systems_vapour_pressures_deviation is useful.--5.15.57.134 (talk) 10:44, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
Fractional distillation separation details
editI agree that this might be too detailed (and technically worded) for this article. However, that was the only place relative volatility was mentioned, which seems like a relevant associated topic. I don't know what fields of study use that terminology to know whether they would be looking at this less technical article enough to want examples. But I do know the theoretical plate article is highly technical and provides no actual examples. On the other hand, fractional distillation is a common topic in college (and maybe even lower) that does not need those details. But the qualitative idea of needing more plates for separating materials that have closer boiling points is often discussed in lab texts and demonstrated, so it seems useful to have a single actual (quantitative) example of that idea here in the less technical article. DMacks (talk) 19:41, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
- The subjects of industrial fractional distillation, theoretical plates and relative volatility all fall within the purview of Chemical Engineering. Although I am a longtime Fellow Member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, I have never heard of chemical engineering being a "common topic" at any educational institution other than a full-fledged university. Any university student working towards obtaining a B.S. in Chemical Engineering has knowledge of those subjects by about his/her junior year ... and they are not considered to be "highly technical".
- It is unfortunate that the Fractional distillation article includes a section on chemistry laboratory fractional distillation in glassware as well as sections devoted to industrial fractional distillation towers and their design. Perhaps students working towards a degree in B.S. chemistry are not conversant with "relative volatility" or "theoretical plates". mbeychok (talk) 22:36, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Catalytic Reformer Unit.jpg
editA tag has been placed on File:Catalytic Reformer Unit.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. The file File:GFImg33.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Part of a series of similar images I am proposing for deletion. File is old and unused and falls under the "unencyclopedic" criteria for file deletion (something that is unlikely to be useful on any Wikimedia project). I'm concerned that these images may be WP:OR due to their naming: their only description is "Gordon Feric", whose initials correspond with the title. Without a meaningful description, they are useless and serve merely to direct users to Feric's website.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. DrStrauss talk 21:10, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
