Username and account question

edit
Hello Mcolm and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm not too sure about your previous discussion with Crisco, however I think I can help you. The rule of thumb on Wikipedia is that your username and account should represent you and not your company or organization. You can read Wikipedia's username policy and Wikipedia:Sock puppetry. Hope this helps you! If you have anymore questions, please go to the Teahouse or ask on my talk page. -- Luke (Talk) 15:27, 27 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Not actual articles

edit

Hey, Mcolm, someone just pointed out to me that you might not quite understand how creating new pages works in Wikipedia. The articles you've created aren't actually articles; they're what is called userpages. That's why their titles are "User:Mcolm" or "User:Dubaitennis". They're not actually real articles; they won't even show up if you search for them. For now, it's actually a good thing that they're not real articles yet, because they still need some work. In particular, there's a lot of language that promotional in tone; for example, "he has been the driving forcce[sic] behind the massive growth and development" sounds like advertising-speak, and it's not the neutral tone that Wikipedia requires in its subjects.

You don't need to create a new account for each page you create; all you need to do is type in the exact title of the page you want into the Wikipeedia search bar in the top-right corner (spelling, capitalization and punctuation all count!). when you do this, it'll take you to a list of search results, and above the search results, there'll be a notice that says "You may create the page "<whatever you typed in>", but consider checking the search results below to see whether the topic is already covered", with the words you typed in in red. Click on that red link, and it'll take you to a place where you can create a real article. However, again, I'd recommend that you don't create your articles for real right now; because of their issues, they would probably be quickly deleted. Instead, try to work on them where they are, and once you feel that they're ready, you can follow the instructions to submit them to Articles for creation, where they'll be reviewed and given feedback. Thanks! Writ Keeper 17:01, 27 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Dubai Duty Free Company

edit

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Dubai Duty Free Company, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an acceptable page. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this page is not blatant advertising,  . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You may freely add information to the page that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the page will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.  Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 05:11, 28 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Dubai Duty Free (DDF)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Dubai Duty Free (DDF) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.dubaidutyfree.com/about/about_ddf. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Mcolm. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Colm McLoughlin, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the COI guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Edwardx (talk) 09:42, 9 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Promotional content

edit

I am having to revert your latest additions to Colm McLoughlin. In particular this uncited paragraph, "Significantly, on 1st June 2019, McLoughlin celebrated his 50th years in the duty free industry. Widely recognised as an industry legend and known as the driving force behind Dubai Duty Free’s successful US$2 billion business, McLoughlin began his career in Shannon Airport in 1969 before moving to Dubai in 1983 to set up what is now the largest single airport retailer in the world." Edwardx (talk) 09:43, 9 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

More edits just reverted. You really need to declare your COI. Edwardx (talk) 09:50, 9 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
