I will reply to messages wherever they are posted. If you write something here, my reply will also be here. If I have written something on someone else's talk page, I will be watching it for at least 5 days. Any article I have contributed to recently will be on my watchlist. |
Mike. Your edits look good. Some of the earlier contributions have been written by people who are not native speakers of English. That is no problem, but a little tidying up is required from time to time. It was me that added the picture of a mixed doubles match at Tranent. Not a great picture, but ... Bob, thanks for your comment--I'm glad you liked the edits. At the moment my edits have also had the temporary effect of adding new redundancy, but I intend to fix that soon. I've taken some of the ideas from previous versions and revised to improve the English and general structure.
I'm still rather new to Wikipedia, so I hope you don't mind that I stole your "message box" above! I wasn't sure how to use this messaging system, and it seemed helpful information. Mike. Mike Hopley 22:40, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Mike. That is fine. One small point - although you appear to have joined Wikipedia on around 3 August, nobody has sent you a message of welcome. Normally, a new user gets a standard message of welcome with some basic instructions and advice. You can see such a message if you go to the top of my talk page Archive. Please allow me to welcome you. Bob BScar23625 05:49, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
Bob. Thanks very much for your welcome. I found the welcome message on your talk page and looked through some of the advice; I may return there if ever I get confused in Wikipedia. Mike Mike Hopley 15:09, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
Opinion
editI'm the one who develop the badminton events in Wikipedia. As a coach, you should know how to present some events in Wikipedia. Like 2006 Thomas & Uber Cup, it make me illness on how to present it, isi't the current presentation is right on the track? Please have some opinion and advice for future development. Thank you --Aleenf1 05:15, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
I'll certainly have a think about it, but it's not really my area of expertise. I don't play in the tournaments, and I don't coach anyone who plays in the tournaments, so really I don't know any more than your average badminton fan (less actually, because I don't support any particular player or nation). I think that the tournaments section looks pretty good at the moment anyway :) Mike Hopley 11:07, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Badminton Competition
editMike, i'm sure this part you never touch before, Badminton #Competitions. As i add more details, i'm sure my english (especially grammar) are bit worse. Indeed, i'm not native speaker. I'm run my job only. Can you help me to rephrase that part. Your contributions to this article is amaze, and really hope you can do it for me. Thank you.
Another, is the article is suitable to upgrade to feature article? If you nod, i'm will nominate soon. --Aleenf1 15:54, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
Aleen, sorry -- I've been away from Wikipedia for ages. When I have time (hopefully soon), I shall go through the English as you suggest. I also need to correct some dodgy/irrelevant technical information that has been introduced to the article. After this, I think the article might very well be good enough to nominate for feature status. I've posted this on your talk page too (since the message was old). Mike Hopley 19:36, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- Perfect, nothing wrong. Thank you. And much vandalism since you away for while. So, you might need to check through the article. Thank you again. --Aleenf1 05:08, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure you are finish the correction to the Badminton article, and i'm not nominate yet, please reply when you do so. Thank you. --Aleenf1 16:49, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
- I have finished my corrections. Nominate when ready! :) Mike Hopley 22:20, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, Mike Hopley, even the FAC did not due, but i think is fail through already, so kindly to take all the comments and have a copyedit again, split to new articles when possible. Thank you. --Aleenf1 04:39, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
Shuttlecock pricing
editHi Mike!! I'm sure you would be correct here as you are a badminton coach, however, what made you say that the price of good feathers is quite similar to that of plastics?? Back in December when I did a few tiny changes to that article, I noted that feathers were more expensive. You soon changed that back, and I just happened to notice that today, two months late.r :) Not really disputing you here in any way, but, from my experience, the price of even decent feathers is quite higher than the price of good plastics. Please advise.
Thanks!! No hard feelings...obviously.Tingalex 03:42, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Alex! Obviously it depends on where you are. In the UK, the prices are similar: for example, http://www.pwp.com/badmintonshuttles.asp?id=310&cat=Badminton%20Shuttles lists Yonex AS-30 (a good feather) as £13 per dozen, and Yonex Mavis 370 (a good plastic) as £12. In Asia, I believe feathers are cheaper than plastics. The main difference in economy is due to plastics having greater durability, rather than being cheaper. Mike Hopley 18:45, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- Also, it depends on which shuttles you choose to compare. Cheap plastics are really cheap, but also miserable to play with. Cheaper feathers are not so bad. Normally clubs will either play with feathers or high-quality plastics, so that's the right comparison to make. Mike Hopley 18:52, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- You certainly seem to be correct. Sorry about that.....Tingalex 02:28, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
editHello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.
For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 21:06, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Reach for consensus
editSince you are a listed member at Wikipedia:WikiProject Badminton I am inviting you to reach a consensus at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Badminton regarding the format of brackets for tournaments, particularly the Super Series competitions.--MorrisIV (talk) 15:42, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
