An extended welcome

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. I've added a welcome message to the top of this page that gives a great deal of information about Wikipedia. I hope you find it useful.

Additionally, I hope you don't mind if I share some of my thoughts on starting out as a new editor on Wikipedia: If I could get editors in your situation to follow just one piece of advice, it would be this: Learn Wikipedia by working only on non-contentious topics until you have a feel for the normal editing process and the policies that usually come up when editing casually. You'll find editing to be fun, easy, and rewarding. The rare disputes are resolved quickly and easily.

Working on biographical information about living persons is far more difficult. Wikipedia's Biographies of living persons policy requires strict adherence to multiple content policies, and applies to all information about living persons including talk pages.

If you have a relationship with the topics you want to edit, then you will need to review Wikipedia's Conflict of interest policy, which may require you to disclose your relationship and restrict your editing depending upon how you are affiliated with the subject matter. Regardless, editing in a manner that promotes an entity or viewpoint over others can appear to be detrimental to the purpose of Wikipedia and the neutrality required in articles.

Some topic areas within Wikipedia have special editing restrictions that apply to all editors. It's best to avoid these topics until you are extremely familiar with all relevant policies and guidelines.

I hope you find some useful information in all this, and welcome again. --Ronz (talk) 16:33, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Talk page guidelines

edit

Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines says:

"Keep headings neutral: A heading on an article talk page should indicate what the topic is, but not communicate a specific view about it."

Please make your points in your comments, and avoid editorializing in the section header. --Guy Macon (talk) 00:47, 10 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you again. Will remember. Mohanabhil (talk) 01:28, 10 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Persons With Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Arbitration Discretionary Sanctions Alert

edit

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in pseudoscience and fringe science. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Persons With Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995

edit

I helped with minor technical things and an article reviewer processed it. It was almost deleted today (and was in the past, see the tag at the top of its talk page). If you can provide more information helping to make its notability and importance obvious (WP:GNG), I recommend to do it, or it risks facing deletion again eventually. Thanks, —PaleoNeonate20:19, 11 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Putnam wikipedia

edit

Why was what I added deleted? I have spoken to the College of Heraldry in England and they do not believe the Putnam family to have been armigerous. According to when Eben Putnam researched the family it was once believed they were Decendants of an armiger but according to what the college of heraldry told me we are not and can't prove our ancestry past a certain ancestor Joeputnam3131 (talk) 15:04, 13 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

You need to provide the source (website link, book links, media links) from where you got this information. Mohanabhil (talk) 15:34, 13 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

I spoke to the College of Heraldry. Should I post a link to them? That is all I can think to do. They gave me no documentation. Joeputnam3131 (talk) 15:45, 13 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

I just emailed the College of Heraldry to try an get a source. Joeputnam3131 (talk) 16:08, 13 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for edit warring, as you did at Siddha medicine. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 15:57, 13 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I frequently replied on talk page and raised issues every time. But none of the parties who edit warred against me made no participation on talk page any recently https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Siddha_medicine#Relevance_of_Indian_Medical_Association  except Roxy the Dog who was never commenting on the talk page. I thought the opposing parties are totally disinterested in discussion and only want to put their preferred version.

But now after reading that you can be blocked for edit warring regardless of how many times you have reverted, I plan to make no more reverts on this page and request unblock. I pledge to resolve issue on talk page before making any reverts again. Mohanabhil (talk) 17:38, 13 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

This block appears to have expired. SQLQuery me! 00:23, 15 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

RfA

edit

Your "vote" at the RfA is, IMO, disruptive. Regardless of that, you are not doing it properly. If you insist on voting, figure out how to do it right. If you persist in doing it incorrectly, you risk being blocked.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:39, 5 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
