Adoption welcome
editWelcome to Wikipedia, Que Creativa, and thanks for choosing me as your adopter. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- Tutorial
- How to edit a page
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I think you'll enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! As an initial pointer, remember to sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}}
before the question. I will watch your contributions page and help out where needed, and if there is a specific article you would like me to help work on, just let me know. I'll be sure to look into the article Víctor J. Montilla and give you my thoughts soon, but I first wanted to welcome you! --Eustress (talk) 18:07, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Feedback concerning Víctor J. Montilla
editI can definitely empathize with you and understand the obstacles you have encountered editing on Wikipedia—it can be a little frustrating at first, but if you hang in there and learn the ropes, I think you will really enjoy it and make the world a better place. First of all, Wikipedia is governed by a slew of policies that you should begin to familiarize yourself with (see WP:POLICY)—policies that are good because without them chaos would exist, but there are a lot of them. The good thing for this article is that Montilla is definitely notable (a requirement to keep the article from being challenged and deleted—Wikipedia isn't a directory of anyone and everyone; see WP:NOT). However, the format of this article and some of the content needs to be seriously reworked (see WP:LIVING, perhaps use Mariah Carey (a featured article) as a guide). Everything in the article needs to be supported by inline citations and reliable sources—even familial relation to the subject of the article does not give one credibility. (Also, because I'm guessing from your username that you are somehow related to Montilla, I would just encourage you to read WP:COI.) I also notice that you've had some troubles uploading images. Review WP:IMAGES and remember that if you didn't take the picture, then you must obtain permission to use it. Additionally, if you would like to list this article on the Spanish Wikipedia, I would suggest refining it here in English first, and then translating it over.
Anyway, I would be happy to help edit this article with you; let's continue any applicable conversations about the article there on its talk page. Some stuff to work on would be to create a lead for the article and insert inline citations using WP:Cite. Best --Eustress (talk) 18:32, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
- Dear Eustress... THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! The changes you've made have already made a world of a difference!
- I've been working with HTML for the longest time, and have found the formatting in Wikipedia to be a real challenge. I have already been working on your suggestions as for inline citations and references, as well as gathering information from additional sources.
- As for the username, I do know Montilla well and have a familial relation to the subject, however this "job" was actually suggested by some of his peers. My "day job" is in communications, so, this is the sort of thing I would do for my other clients anyway, so they figured I'd have the "know how" to work on this -- never thought it would be so challenging -- thank Wikipedia for adoption, though! In the future, do you think I should login under my "professional" username in order to have less of a conflict? Montikid (talk) 14:25, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- Like WP:COI says, it is assumed that all editors have some conflict of interest in their edits, but COIs like family relations sometimes lead to problems of editor ownership and original research. With regards to which username to use, it's completely your call. Some editors like complete transparency while others choose anonymity. In my experience, anonymity is best because any personal information I provide could be used against me, either in editing conflicts or in unfortunate personal attacks. However, regardless of the position taken, the hope is that all editors will try to be impartial and strive for a neutral point of view (NPOV) in each article.
- FYI, you can request to change a username anytime (see WP:Changing username). Another thing that could be done to improve the Montilla article is to use more reliable sources—specifically, citing sources that are from an independent, third party. I would also encourage you to make all edits under a username (i.e., not under an anonymous IP address), as anonymous edits are not taken very seriously. Anyway, I hope you have fun with Wikipedia and help improve many articles. --Eustress (talk) 14:50, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
Image:Corbata roja.jpg listed for deletion
editAn image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Corbata roja.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Protonk (talk) 04:42, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm nominated this image for deletion because I feel it is not public domain but rather produced for hire by TUTV. Please comment at the IfD discussion if you disagree. Protonk (talk) 04:42, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Nomination for deletion over at commons.
editI've nominated the other PD-tagged articles in the Victor Motilla article for deletion at wikipedia commons. There is a template message on your user talk there, but I'll just bang something out here. Basically, I feel that all or most of the images in question were property of TUTV, rather than released to the public domain. If you feel this characterization is wrong (and it may be), please say so here. while I'm happy to talk about this nomination, comments left here or on my talk page probably won't make it into the deletion debate. Again, I'm sorry about the images. Please consider retagging them as fair use or getting some public domain release permission for them. thanks. Protonk (talk) 05:00, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
