Copying from MDWiki

edit

Hi,

I notice you've copied the leads of many articles from MDWiki to your userspace. MDWiki is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0, which is unfortunately not directly compatible with Wikipedia's CC BY-SA 3.0 license (see WP:COMPLIC). In most cases, it seems the MDWiki article was imported directly from Wikipedia. For articles where there was no original content added on MDWiki, this is fine, but you should attribute Wikipedia directly to avoid any confusion. For the other cases (User:Mr. Ibrahem/Paresthesia is one example), the original content from MDWiki will either need to be removed or you will need to get the authors of said content to clearly state that their contributions are licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0, to be compatible with Wikipedia. Also pinging Doc James who I hope might have some additional context here. — The Earwig (talk) 23:41, 15 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

User:The Earwig fair point. We will update the licensing on MDWiki to make it compatible. My contributions are all CC BY SA 3.0 and 4.0 duel licensed. Best Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 00:09, 16 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

User sub-pages

edit

I notice that you have many sub-pages in your user space, Special:PrefixIndex/User:Mr. Ibrahem/. I recognise you for your contributions to Arabic Wikipedia,[1] so perhaps these were working pages for translations into Arabic? Anyway, these sub-pages are WP:STALEDRAFTs or WP:COPYARTICLEs and should not be kept indefinitely. Please tag them for deletion with {{db-author}} when you have finished with them. – Fayenatic London 11:57, 28 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Your contributions

edit

Hello, can I ask what you are doing with your recent contributions? Is there a bot or script involved? Your activity is suspicious so I have temporarily blocked you until you can explain what's going on. ... discospinster talk 21:50, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I used a script to modify the pages. This is my mistake. I was supposed to activate the bot account to do that after obtaining approval.
These pages are related to the Translation Dashboard, the modifications are supposed to be minimal, and it only works when click the "Translate" button. Mr. Ibrahem (talk) 22:03, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I already stopped the script, it was a one-time job, and it won't happen again. Mr. Ibrahem (talk) 22:10, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
OK I have unblocked the account. ... discospinster talk 22:27, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Noting that this account is still tied to your tool see this edit that your account made. Please move use a seperate bot account with bot permission and clearly denote which editor requested which edit (in this case the requesting editor was me). Sohom (talk) 15:45, 28 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for having an unmonitored and unapproved script (that also happens to cause errors).
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Primefac (talk) 16:12, 28 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Request reason:

Ok, sorry about that. I created a bot account called User:MdWikiBot, and I will also move all my user pages to the bot namespace after getting permissions. Also, modifications to the main namespace will be done via OAuth from now on. Mr. Ibrahem (talk) 20:32, 28 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Accept reason:

Following the discussion below, I have unblocked. Welcome back. PhilKnight (talk) 21:49, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for explaining. I see you got a temporary block earlier this month for bot like edits, but didn't seem to learn from the experience. Would you care to comment? PhilKnight (talk) 21:31, 28 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Actually the reason for that ban is that I made many changes to my subpages in a short time. while the translation tool makes changes from time to time in my user namespace.
But the edit that happened to the Nicholas Carlini page is via the FixwikiRefs tool that provides fixing of references in articles translated in other wikis, and it can be used by any user who logs into the tool, and it's not supposed to be used in any way on articles like Nicholas Carlini.
I honestly don't know who did this, so these changes will be limited to articles translated via the tool and will be using OAuth from now on. Mr. Ibrahem (talk) 21:49, 28 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
PhilKnight any update? Mr. Ibrahem (talk) 20:55, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Primefac: - how do you feel about a possible unblock? PhilKnight (talk) 21:36, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am dubious, but given that I'm getting off-wiki pressure to unblock I will leave it up to you. Primefac (talk) 21:44, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much, no pressure at all, I will request permission for the bot shortly. Mr. Ibrahem (talk) 21:58, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Dan Robinson (American football) (d:Q65962131) has been merged with Dan Robinson (politician) (d:Q16090401) as they are the same person. They both have automatically translated articles in ar Wikipedia, would it be possible to merge them? Unfortunately the user that created them seems to be banned.
