Minna Jiu Jitsu

RE: Minna Jiu Jitsu

Dear Editor: Concerning your recent message to me on Minna Jiu Jitsu I would, kindly, ask that you reconsider the refusal to put in this entry. Minna Jiu Jitsu is a martial art form with thousands of students (including, of course, past students).

The governing body of Minna Jiu Jitsu, the Jiu Jitsu Black Belt Federation of the United States (JBBF) is a recognized body by the American Karate Association and the JBBF has over 4300 members. The founder (Soke), Frank Kovacs, is in the International Karate and Kickboxing Hall of Fame and was 2 times world champion in open-style / open-fight.

Were you to do a Google search of "minna jiu jitsu" you would see that there are many entries. These entries are of many martial artists who were, at one point or another, students of Minna Jiu Jitsu and of Soke Kovacs. There are many schools of Minna Jiu Jitsu other than the school I specifically wrote about as, in the course of over 45 years, Soke Kovacs has chartered other schools (they are NOT franchise schools). Frank Kovacs has been recognized by many other Soke (grandmasters) as an equal, including those of many very old asian schools.

I have read the guidelines and can understand how you might have thought that this was an advertisement but this is a fairly widely practiced martial art with thousands of students, past and present, though it is not as popular as "standard" karate, etc. Again, I can see where one "could" think it was an advertisement but respectfully disagree because the Hombu Dojo (the founding dojo run by the founder himself (Soke)) is something unique. For instance, if you look up "ninjutsu" in wikipedia there is an entry and there is reference to specific schools and dojos: these are also commercial operations but they are also significant because they are the "headquarters" for that martial art.

Again, I do honestly appreciate your concerns but would ask that you reconsider this entry and, if there is something specific in the entry that is problematic I would be happy to change it. I tried, for instance, to avoid putting things like the class schedule, fees and the like when I wrote the entry because of the guidelines. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Minnajiujitsu (talkcontribs) 18:14, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply. I will go through the original article and change a few things that may sound like advertising. What's not clear to me, however, is why the entire entry was deleted rather than only the disambiguation page? First, the reason I included the entry on the disambiguation page was because Minna Jiu Jitsu is primarily a form a jiujutsu, thus I thought it was appropriate - maybe if I include that information it will be appropriate? Further, and again, I will rewrite the original entry a bit but it's sort of difficult as regards the citations: I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to find many citations when Soke Kovacs simply started his own style and taught / teaches it. Since he has - and is not to this day - a self-promoter (in fact, he even had qualms about us, his students, making a web site) there's not so much out there. What IS out there is thousands of students and, like I mentioned before, an association with over 4500 active black belt members (documentable) who pay (very minimal dues - because Frank won't allow the association to be a profit making venture for anyone involved, other than paying for membership cards, etc.). I'm concerned about following the wikpedia rules and don't want to be one of those people who tries to re-post every 4 days and cause problem but I am having some difficulty - in good faith - understanding the rules. As an attorney (G. Zavarella, Ohio Sup. Ct. Reg No. 0065715) I've seen many, many business proposals put in front of Frank and he doesn't even consider them ... he could really care less saying things like "my name on a gi doesn't block {explicative} punch or protect lady from {explicative for an attacker}". In short, Frank is the "real deal" and I'm kindly requesting whatever assistance you can give in helping me get the article in and follow the rules because I strongly support the project. And, please forgive me for failing to sign the last comment. Minnajiujitsu (talk) 12:13, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Actually I was just replacing something removed, without summary, by an IP editor. I have now re-worded it and added a citation. --Nate1481(t/c) 14:54, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

He's Baaaaccckkk

As you noticed koonleg50 is at it again at Branches_of_Wing_Chun, using his regular account plus multiple anonymous ip's. I engaged him on the talk page again, he won't listen as usual and revert to forced rv's. I'll give it about another day before I file an admin action request (this'll be the 4th complaint I believe). --Marty Goldberg (talk) 04:27, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Google is Not a Source

You recently reverted <ref>http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=kenpo+&btnG=Search The first page of google search on "kenpo" yields 3 mentions of Parker </ref> in the Kenpō article with the comment "Google is not a source".

On Talk:Kenpō, I have been having a discussion with 24.235.139.169 who appears to believe that he has exclusive rights to decide if Parker is allowed to be mentioned in the Kenpō article.

I agree that Google itself is not a source. I wished to use the reference only to establish as a verifiable statement "The first page of Google search on "kenpo" yields 3 mentions of Parker." For this, only Google can be the source.

The reference is to present a verifiable fact about notability, not to establish that Parker style is one of the most wide-spread. Would you consider moving the {{fact}} tag from Parker's name to the phase "The most widespread styles"?

And if you have time, could you take a look at the talk page and give me some ideas how to work with 24.235.139.169?

Thanks! jmcw (talk) 09:29, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

I would be happy if I could bring him up to the level of arguing<g> It would be an improvement over unilaterally deciding himself. The kenpo article has developed into an "umbrella" article attempting to define all the things called kenpo ( or kempo ). It is hard to set criteria for inclusion: I am satisfied that if specific article discusses kenpo and has survived Rfd, then it has a place in the general kenpo article. I am trying to attract 24.235.139.169 to this concept.
If I were an innocent internet surfer and searched google for 'kenpo' and saw Parker's name often, I would expect to see some mention in the general wiki article. jmcw (talk) 09:56, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for putting it up on the MA project page - I should have done it a while ago. He appears every few weeks and "un-vandalises his article." jmcw (talk) 13:52, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Rowing

You reverted a reference to the ARA, and tried to say that they are the governing body of rowing in the UK. The ARA do have responsibilities in regard to international representation for Great Britain, but for most of its responsibilities the ARA covers only England. Wales has its own governing body, WARA, although they choose to use the ARA rules of racing. Rowing in Scotland is governed by SARA, and Northern Ireland (together with the rest of Ireland) is governed through the Irish Amateur Rowing Union. David Biddulph (talk) 00:04, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Why did you erase my external link to a rowing exercise manufacturer? I'm going to add it again. Please don't delete it. Or if you remove that one, then you need to remove the others. Thanks!K69 (talk) 16:39, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

I guess it's a good removal. Just so you know, AxioFIT is for gym and home. Anyway, talk to you later K69 (talk) 04:51, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Their is really no discrepancies just clearing a few things up that are inaccurate on the page. The History of Ryuei ryu on Mr.Arashiro's site is not correct including the lineage. Here is some information on Mr.Campbell. http://www.usadojo.com/biographies/grant-campbell.htm http://www.usakaratedo.com/grant.htm http://www.bushido.org/whfsc/whfsc19.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by Americanman08 (talkcontribs) 20:07, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

UFC 84

I mark it vandalism, because people know what they're doing wrong and I mark it just in case it is actually vandalism... People know not to put rumored matchups on wikipedia but do it anyway...

Self defence or self-defence

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Self-defense do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia.

Not sure what these external links claims are about. Go back and look at the edit history and you'll find a different IP linked to non guidance links. All that was added on my behalf was that self defence is generally not spelt with a hyphen outside the US. Please check more closely page edits before making such frivelous claims, and perhaps work on some constructive contributions. Welcome to Wikipedia.

Being new to this site, please forgive my lack of knowledge with the requirements of posting. Most written information widely available in the english language about the Ryuei ryu system is,to a large degree inaccurate. There are more kata that are contained in the system, various categories of martial strategy and technique, health and wellness practices and other "things" that make the system an obviously chinese based martial arts system,as opposed to a "style"of karate.I am blessed to be in the circle of some of the most accomplished martial artist.Without getting into the politics I assure you that nothing malicious is being written to offend anyone.Thank You —Preceding unsigned comment added by Americanman08 (talkcontribs) 18:46, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Titles in the MOS

You left the edit summary on Dim Mak where you reverted my edit; "please see the Manual of Style regarding titles", but the titles section on the MOS page doesn't mention not using titles, and in fact there is an occurrence of "Dr." on the page with advice on usage in American and British English, which suggests that it is acceptable. If there's something specific on another MOS page that prohibits or advises against the usage, could you point it out to me. Basically I added it to give the article a little bit of context. It jumps in with "Michael Kelly believes..." without any explanation of who Michael Kelly is and why what he believes is important. Bill (talk|contribs) 12:11, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm still no expert with wiki code but please feel free to add that to the article if you think it'd be a fit. Would it seem like self-promotion? I'd like to avoid that since I don't want to be mistaken for using Bullshido.net as a vehicle for my own personal opinions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Phrost (talkcontribs) 16:29, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Sounds good, go for it.
Also, the messaging system on WP is pretty awful. --Phrost (talk) 16:51, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Also, can we yank the "Needs Sources" template off the Bullshido article? I don't want to do that myself in case there's a conflict of interest. --Phrost (talk) 17:04, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

WJJF and photos

Quick question, are you with the WJJF?? Also how do you add the copyright data to a picture, its really annoying me?

BJJ & Vapour

I don't think it's a good idea to change the article before Vapour replied. You waste too much time catering to trolls and the like. Let the onus be on them to justify their action and then they will soon go away. Note that Nysanda practically disappeared as soon as we started ignoring him. That BJJ section was fine as it was. Though that section is better now (due to rephrasing only) there was no logical justification for Vapour's deletion and bizarre rationale(s). P.S. Always remember that it is a lot more work for them to edit the article than it it is for us to simply click 'undo'! --David from Downunder (talk) 13:45, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

I replied on my talk page. I'm adding back the sentence that you deleted. I have an idea how to improve that sentence, but please leave that section as it is until we hear from Vapour. --David from Downunder (talk) 14:11, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Removed tag from COL program page

Hi,

Just want to let you know I removed the Martial Arts project tag from the COL program page. This page has nothing to do with martial arts - it's intended as a personal attack, and the only mention of martial arts is in a statement that is unsourced and challenged. If valid citations are added to the challenged statements, I'll add the tag back.

Cheers, MThomas333 (talk) 17:47, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

A very strange comment. That article is about martial arts (bullshido, but MA nevertheless!). How is it a personal attack to include that tag? Also strange is the other warring party's edits, like this, and this. --David from Downunder (talk) 15:56, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
