Elders
editThanks for digging out the Australian species of elder, my earlier info searches on the genus hadn't revealed it. When I looked for more info on it, I found a second Australian species (S. australasica, Yellow Elder). Could you check over to see if I've got my facts correct (distribution, size, etc), please? - MPF 18:04, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Nothofagus
editHi Nathan, The Nothofagus article looks good, are any of the Australian species used for timber production?--nixie 05:56, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
(I'm wondering if this will work - can I respond here and you get a message?) Anyway, yes, N. cunninghamii(myrtle) is sold as a specialist timber in tassie, used for turning, cabinetry and flooring. I have a stack of myrtle floorboards I picked up a second hand timber shop. njh 07:52, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
Wahlenbergia
editThanks for your comments about my Wahlenbergia photo. I believed it was a gloriosa as I have seen them for sale in a nursery labelled as such. I do have great difficulty in photographing blue flowers, but certainly the colour is not as intense as the flower on the NSW Flora online website. Looking at http://farrer.riv.csu.edu.au/ASGAP/APOL8/emblems8.html which gives natural distribution above 1300 metres makes it unlikely to be gloriosa as per your suggestion--A Y Arktos 11:21, 20 November 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for your expansion of the new article :-) Regards--A Y Arktos 23:07, 20 November 2005 (UTC)
Ironbark
editI think you'll find that E.sideroxylon was renamed E.tricarpa some years ago. Please check. 128.250.87.53 05:55, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- (not that you'll probably read this, but [1] and [2] both say that tricarpa is an allied species. Have you got any better info? Then put it on the sideroxylon page ;) njh 09:44, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- yes I did read the above. Your second reference above states the reality of the species-- what was known as E. sideroxylon was renamed E.tricarpa more than five years ago. So the E. sideroxylon page is wrong. 128.250.87.56 02:40, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

RE: camaldulensis dropping branches
editHi Nathan, I've found the water info in the main Eucalyptus page under "Hazards". Since river red had the same hazard info, I assumed the cause was similar. Such an adoptation seems to make sense. -- Eug 13:20, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
Tanglefoot Beech
editHi Nathan - this one isn't the most difficult Nothofagus to grow, the tropical New Guinea species are usually considered less easy. A lot of course depends on where one is, which makes allocating a 'most difficult' tag a matter of POV - MPF 23:47, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
About the strange delete in Timber treatment
editHi Nathan, Maybe you are right about reverting my deletion. The deletion by the way, was actually a reverting to the first thing User:Bridgman wrote (which I found more relevant to the subject).
Finding other external links is rather difficult because the sodium silicate timber treatment is only offered by one young company TimberSil, and is therefore not in general use (Google it, everything leads to this company). What really triggered my action was the fact that every mention of sodium silicate-based timber treatment in Wikipedia was done by user Bridgman, who in my opinion is Gary Bridgeman, public relation director of this same company TimberSil [3]. I therefore concluded (maybe too quick) that we are dealing here with someone who is trying to sell his product on Wiki. If you have an other opinion, that’s all right. 212.102.225.147 10:19, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- I hope you get a chance to read this. Yes, I agree that having PR directly in articles is perhaps not ideal, but it is better to have PR that explains stuff than nothing at all. By all means rewrite to reduce POV, and add any critique you can find, but just deleting seems somewhat arbitrary. Nothing in the PR is demonstrably false or misleading as far as I can tell. Ideally we would find a report detailing the pros and cons of each technology. njh 04:14, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Query about your change to aerogel thermal conductivity
editHi Nathan,
As my first input to Wikipedia, I have put a query about the surprising (to me) claimed world record low thermal conductivity of an aerogel. I thought I should mention this to you as I noticed that you had changed it downwards to this value on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerogel and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Thermal_conductivity . (My comment is in the discussion page for these 2 pages.)
Thanks, 202.74.220.117 02:15, 30 March 2006 (UTC)Bruce King
- I didn't change it, Az7997 did:
(cur) (last) 08:20, 30 March 2006 Az7997 (→Silica aerogel - changed thermal conductivity value to CRC value and ADDED REFERENCE, WHAT A CONCEPT!!!)

Electric Vehicles
editYour njh edits of the Electric vehicles article back in July 2005 is much appreciated. Thanks. If you haven't looked at it for a while, you might want to note that it has recently had NPOV questioned. You input to weigh in on the topic would be valuable. N2e 22:52, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, I've done a quick breakdown of the claim. I think NPOV is questionable, and I've suggested ways for people to fix this. --njh 01:28, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
